I started process of replacing basement windows. We plan to clean part of the basement for kids room. A few questions:

- Everybody covers basement windows with curtains. But I did not see a single case where people simply installed windows with frosted glass. Is there any reason for this?

- should I keep the metal bars? Are there any alternatives to the bars? The house is in Bayridge. Some of the houses around have bars and some do not. So I am not sure about necessity of this security feature.

- I have door in front of the basement, door at the back of the basement and the stairs to the first floors in the middle of the basement. Do I still need to remove bars from the window as a mean of egress? Do I need to get some special window for this “mean of egress”?
