re-brownstone stair costs

Our once brownstoned exterior stairs up to our house are falling apart. These are pretty typical stairs for a brownstone and it seems I see people redoing these all the time. But as we started looking for estimates, the numbers were staggering, over 20K for 12 steps?!?! Anyone have thoughts here on what “going rate” to do this?
