Radiant heat and steam system

As a follow up to an earlier post I had, I am curious – if we wanted to install a smaller su-system for radiant heating (hydronic) where we have a main steam system, would we run into trouble with the two systems competing?

That is, for instance, if we retain our original steam system for normal heating purposes, and just try to use hydronics for radiant heating in the kitchen and bathrooms, are we bound for trouble there?

Also, would such a small application (more to keep the floors warm rather than for true heating purposes) would we be better off going with an electric solution?
