Fellow Brownstoner Needs Assistance
Hi Everyone,
I know of a long-term resident of Park Slope who is single parent with small children. She was living a comfortable life that was until she came across a crooked contractor who was a large contributor to her now being on the verge of losing her home. This trusting woman paid a contractor a large amount of money ($$$$$$$$$$$$) to renovate her home. The contractor took her money, yet only completed half the work. The house was in shambles for over a year, while the family resided on location without any cooking appliance, and the bear minimum, for the job was to have taken 3 months to complete and everything was in storage. A 2nd mortgage was taken to finance the incomplete work. Finally the family was able to live a normal life after 2 years of dust, debris and lack of …almost everything.
A case against the construction company is now pending a hearing.
In the mean-time the woman is barely making it with the 2 mortgage payments.
Now with over 20 years of office work experience she became unemployed. She is looking to work. Even if it out of her norm. Does anyone have any leads?
The electrical in her home passed inspection, however the microwave in the kitchen shorted out again. She cannot afford to once again pay $225 to correct the problem. Also one of her bathroom sinks is clogged not allowing water to pass. Do you know of anywhere she can get assistance in reference to fixing some of her household problems? At the end of this month her problems will be at a more advanced level. Unable to continue to pay her house insurance, gas, electrical and phone. I believe that her house insurance needs to be paid or the mortgage lender will be notified. What happens in a situation like this? How would that affect her mortgage? Is there a place she can turn for assistance?
Needless to say this woman is very stressed and it’s taking a toll on her, while she tries to keep smiling faces on her children. It’s a terrible situation! Especially to a good, hardworking person who has given to the community and not a stranger to this site. And what becomes of the children? Soon they will all be dining by candlelight, while the contractor continues to supplement his income off of others. Karma I say!!!!! Karma!!!!!
