Question regarding building material

We are adding an addition onto the back of our home and we are also are also ripping down a wall on the side of the house to extend it our 3 feet. My contractor just told me I have 2 options as materials. One is to build the walls with cinder blocks. The other is to go the traditional way with studs. In my opinion the cinder blocks seem like they are the better choice…can anyone tell me the difference?
