metal railings

I need new railing for my 2nd. floor terrace which is built on the roof of my one storey extension. I am thinking of metal but perhaps other possibilities exist? Anyone have any recommendations re how to go about this?who to hire? is it premade? are there many design choices? costs? etc.?
