Interior ladder to roof

We have a freestanding metal ladder to our roof hatch and, with a crawling baby, it’s both dangerous and ineffective.

Do you have a different interior ladder configuration to recommend? Also, if you know where I could purchase a new, sturdy ladder please let me know.
