Visitors from Out of Town

Can anyone recommend a Bed & Breakfast or an affordable hotel in a safe area? Acquaintances from AZ are coming to New York for a long weekend in July and asked for recommendations. They were shocked at the prices of hotels in Manhattan but do not want to stay in a dive hotel. I’m not quite sure they will have much of a choice but promised to ask around. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
