Non-penetrating varnish/sealer for marble mantel?

We’d like to protect the marble mantel in our apartment while we sublet it — worried about stains from coffee mugs set down on the mantel, etc. But we also like the bare/honed look it has currently, so want to use something that we can later strip off. Can anyone suggest a suitable product? Has anyone done this successfully?
