slipped Pier Mirror
I’m closing on a townhouse, and one of the best preserved details is an enormous 5×8 foot pier mirror set into a mahogany frame in the front parlor. The frame extends to the floor, with a low mantle about 18 inches off the floor. At some point, the mirror glass slipped down into the frame, miraculously not breaking along the way. Now there is about an 18 inch gap between the top of the glass and the top of the frame. The mirror is extremely heavy, 5′x8′x 1/2″ thick. I’d guess the glass weighs almost 100 lbs. Any ideas how to a) lift it back up into place in the frame and b) secure it there safely?
Thanks!
