Kitchen Demo – Quote Check?
I recently purchased a 3rd floor co-op apartment and planning to do some demo before we decide on final designs for the place. The following list includes things we are definitely going to do (the rest of the design work is just the details). Our GC is giving me a hard time because he thinks we need to get a designer in to plan everything out so that he can bring in a crew to do the demo, rubbish, electrical, plumbing, and build-out. I actually think we are going to be able to do everything except the demo and plumbing on our own (my cousin is an electrician), so I want to do it piece-meal rather than one lump work order. The GC said it would be $2500-3000 for the demo and rubbish removal. Does that sound reasonable? He also said that if we used him for the whole project the demo and rubbish would only be about $800-900 of it.
1) Demolition of a 7ft wall between Kitchen and Living Room.
2) Demolition of 6ft between Kitchen and Hall Closet 1.
3) Demolition of 3ft wall between Hall Closet 1 and Hall Closet 2.
4) Exposure of 9ft brick wall on exterior Kitchen wall.
6) Removal of tile floor and plywood sub floor in 9ft x 10ft Kitchen, taking care to preserve the wood plank floor beneath.
7) Removal of rubbish, including materials from demolition and a small amount of scrap cabinetry which has already been dismantled.
