Kitchen Cabinet Knobs & Pulls / Water-marked Counter-top?

Can anyone inform me if there really is a mastery of installing kitchen cabinet knobs and pulls? Here I thought that anyone can drill a hole?
Another question….. I recently began to notice that water marks are left on my new granite counter-top. They do disappear within a 1/2 an hour, but does this mean that the counter-top wasn’t sealed?
