Refinishing doors

I just finished stripping and sanding my exterior doors now what? There’s a some damage (black areas) due to the elements. Someone suggested washing the door with lye or with oxalic acid to lighten some of the dark areas. What kind of stain would I use gel perhaps. Where can I purchase marine varnish?
