Double Duplex Partition Advice
Double Duplex Partition Advice
i am in the process of designing a partition in the parlor floor hall of a four story building that will divide the buildings two double duplex units. the upstairs will be the owners duplex and the downstairs will be the rental unit and we definitely want both units to have the privacy that some sort of partition will provide. owners will come in via the stoop door on the parlor floor, and tenants via the door below the stoop. the parlor pocket door in the hall will be locked and used just for moving in large furniture.
i have seen examples of a long sloping wall that is build in the parlor floor public hall. it climbs up the edge of the stairs and goes all the way up to the ceiling. then you can build a closet space on the back side of it for the lower duplex. this seems to work and could be easily removed down the road to convert the building into a 3 over 1, but it also seems like a bit of dust trap & ski jump. i know that other folks have built more of a straight wall in this hall, that could then have a door to move through or a closet on either side for both units to use.
i would love to get advice from other Double Duplex folks on what they have done and what they think about these two solutions, and any others that have been done.
