Is radiant floor heat

We are considering installing radiant heat on 4 levels of a brownstone—two levels of wood floors, two levels of carpeting. Is it cost efficient? Can it be installed under Brazilian walnut floors? Can someone with radiant heat give me the pros and cons now that you are living with it?
