Why so many French people in Clinton Hill?

This is a bit off-topic for Forum, I know, but I’m curious and thought I would ask: Does anybody know the origins of the high concentration of French residents in and visitors to Clinton Hill? Have the French had a presence in CH for a long time? What, do they just did a hood with some gorgeous, historic buildings? If anybody knows and can share, thanks. Er, merci.
