re: Boiler — Who’s right, plumber A or B

I had (still have) a very similar problem with our old steam heat system, except that it is our front upper floor radiators that don’t get heat. I had six different plumbers look at the problem, and they suggested some of the things you list. We tried different size valves — didn’t make a difference. Changed the pressure — nope. Got a BRAND NEW boiler (all of the plumbers except for one managed to miss the fact that the boiler was leaking, which means it is finished) – didn’t make a difference. Finally, I was told that the problem MAY be in the pipe that carries steam to the front radiators, which are the cold ones (our boiler is in the back of the house). It might be clogged, or need a different size vent, or something. But, we have a finished basement, so the only way to get to the pipe would be to hack through the wall, and even then there is no guarentee that it would solve the problem. So basically there is nothing we can do. It has been an incredibly frustrating and expensive experience. I hope you have better luck!!!
