We are attempting a kitchen reno in a co-op apt. A couple of contractors have pointed out that our current tile is laid over other tile and there is a possibility that, while removing two layers of tile, we might crack the ceiling of our downstairs neighbors. We have not so great history with these neighbors and can’t chance that, so we are thinking of either another layer of tile or, what we really want, hardwood just layered on top of what is there. Is this possible? What are the pitfalls?
