My husband and I just wanted to give a big recommendation to the guy who just re-varnished all of the woodwork in our brownstone. His name is John Thomas, and he does absolutely beautiful work restoring the color and sheen to old woodwork that may be nicked, scratched or patched and also developing stains for new woodwork to match the existing wood color. (John is also a photorealistic painter, so he knows exactly how to blend color, what the chemistry of the varnish is, and has a meticulous eye.) Before we met John, we had originally thought we would have to strip, sand and restain all of the woodwork in the house, and a quote we had obtained for the work was astronomical. John was able to do it for about a tenth of the price. We were so thrilled with his work that we just thought that more people should know that a person like this is out there.
