Community Board Two Land Use Committee meeting

Front O' House

I'm of two minds about whether I should be trying to recruit people to come to the Community Board 2 Land Use Committe meeting where the renovation of my house will be discussed. Most of my friends don't live in the CB2 area, and the only plausible way I know to get people to come would be to recruit people from this website. This causes me some concern because I'm not always the nicest person when posting here, and I have visions of my vitrol being repayed by a heckler showing up and shouting me down. While I doubt that those sort of things actually happen in normal Land Use Committee meetings, the only Community Board meetings I've been to were ones where various members of the audience took turns making it very difficult for James Stuckey to get a word in edgewise. Thus, I'm hoping not to be confused for anyone named Stuckey, DePlasco, or Ratner (or Ratowczer for that matter), but I guess we'll see.

As I understand it, the purpose of the presentation to the Land Use Committee meeting is to get input from the community on the project, This input will somehow be relayed to LPC for my meeting with them in January. Even though I am restoring three sides of the building to its original appearance, I am required to present publicly to CB2 and LPC because I am requesting to expand on the rotten one story extension in the rear and make it the full width and height of the building.

The meeting is a community board meeting, and is open to all of the public, not just the people who I want to be there. As such, I would encourage interested people that have either never read my posts, or thick skinned people that I have disparaged online to come to the meeting on December 21st at 6:00 PM at 5 Metrotech Center Suite LC400.

P.S. I have decided to grow a beard for the occasion so to make myself look older and wiser. I have less than two weeks, let's see how I do.

I would just like to say that I think it's idiotic that there has to be a meeting over your little reno project. Can I show up only to tell them that they are the biggest bunch of f$#$%^ losers for wasting my tax dollars on discussing whether Shahn Andersen should be allowed the privilege of spending lots of his own money on fixing up what, as far as I can tell, was a disgusting piece of %$$@ place for many years.

I also want to know I can get a job on this "committee." It sounds much better than my current job.

Was my comment erased for a reason or by accident? I really was curious about the plans for the hearing.

I didn't erase a comment. You should re-post it. I half agree with you Anon, and half disagree. It is a pain in the ass dealing with Landmarks, but if they weren't there, I wouldn't own this house - it would have been torn down and an ugly Fedders building would have been built in its place.

Do you really foresee opposition to your plans from neighbors or is this just a procedural hearing? You may draw unwanted attention to yourself if you bring too many supporters. I hope you have an easy time with the committee. Best of luck with your plans.

The community board portion is just a procedural hearing. The LPC hearing in early January is where the real decisions will be made. I hope I have an easy time with the committee too. :)

Welcome to New York. The anti-owner rules here are ridiculous.

I will gladly show up in support, Shahn. I live nearby and have seen that building rot before my eyes for years. Until about 18 months ago, the extension was fairly intact. But between the squatter who lived there for years, and the recent flipping prior to you, the extension was allowed to decay--I'm sure to strengthen the case for demolition.

So your request to rebuild the extension, even if it's bigger, is actually putting back something that was a key part of the house for about a century and allowed to fall apart.

I don't mind the review process; as you say, otherwise we'd have a Fedders building there. What's maddening is the demolition by neglect; there are no repercussions for letting a building rot as long as the (meager) taxes are paid by someone.
