Playing jokes on the contractor

As Good As Gold

I've heard anecdotes from a few different people about homeowners a hundred years ago hiding bags of money in their walls to protect it from thieves. All of the stories end with either a contractor or new owner finding the loot, and the sums have ranged from twenty dollars worth of rolled pennies to thousands of singles in a potato sack. My contractor and I have had a long running joke about who the money would belong to if we found it while working on the house. A few days ago, he told me he was going to take out the cracked bricks around what's left of the fireplaces on each floor. I bought a few bags of plastic treasure coins and stuck them up in the chimney. When he took the front bricks out, these dusty gold coins poured out all over the floor. It took him a little while to realize they were fake, but I heard from the workers that he was dancing around for a few minutes before he noticed they were plastic.

A friend of mine just showed me this site - I'm really excited to have found it since I live on this block of Cambridge Place and walk by this house every day. I'd noticed some work being done on it, but didn't know by whom. I was even more curious after the Halloween decorations went up, but at least after that I knew it had to be someone with a sense of humor. Take those down, by the way.

(That's me kidding - don't know if it comes across well in type.)

Anyway, this coins trick is great, and the project is great, and I'm eager to see how things progress.

This is so funny! You are a courageous man to be undertaking this renovation -- I'm rooting for you.
