80-4th-Avenue-0909.jpg
Remember that fire we alerted you to yesterday? Well, no one sent in any photos so we went by at the end of the day to survey the damage. According to a nearby business owner, the fire started in the morning and attracted several fire trucks. Based upon what we could see, the upper two floors were gutted. No word on whether anyone was injured. GMAP

Court Street Cinema Fire, Again

uafire_140909.jpg
The UA Cinema on Court Street in Brooklyn Heights had a small fire incident on Saturday that left none injured. According to the Brooklyn Heights Blog, a popcorn machine was the cause of the fire, but the sprinkler system kept it from getting out of control. The incident did fill the theater with smoke and force everyone in the theater to evacuate. Almost the exact same sequence of events occurred last month—a small fire caused by a faulty popcorn machine. Perhaps it's time for UA Cinema to invest in some new popcorn machines? GMAP

Fires Break Out in Cobble Hill

fire_082109.jpg
We received a tip last night at 7:29 p.m. that Smith Street was shut down with fire trucks outside of Brooklyn Industries at Atlantic Avenue. Our tipster said there was no visible smoke, but a plethora of firemen and trucks. No one seems to have an image yet, but we learned that another fire broke out this morning around 6:45 a.m. (this is an estimate) at Smith and Warren, at the new townhouses. Flickr user happyrobot captured the fire and uploaded the image to our Flickr pool. These are obviously two unrelated incidents, but does anyone out there in cyberspace know more about either fire? Let us know in the comments section.

According to The Local, a fire broke out on the fourth floor of 130 Lefferts Place, an 89-unit residential building across the street from the ever-shady Lefferts Hotel, a little over an hour ago and spread to the fifth floor. We have a man on the scene now and it appears that everything's under control. Still lots of fire trucks and firemen hanging around though!

BREAKING: Fire on the Manhattan Bridge

bridge-fire-0709.jpg
You may want to avoid the Manhattan Bridge for the next few hours—according to a tipster, there's a large truck fire on the Manhattan side. Update: According to Gothamist, it's a tractor-trailer that caught on fire in the Brooklyn-bound lanes.

Rosenwach Fire The Morning After

north-9th-fire-0709.jpg
On the night of July 4, Williamsburg got its own pyrotechnics show, only this year it wasn't over the East River—it was at the site of the Rosenwach Wood Tank Company on Wythe Avenue, where a two-alarm fire broke out at around 9 p.m. According to commenters on Gothamist, the blaze started on the company's North 9th Street lot where the company constructs roof-top water tanks. According to two local blogs, a group of twenty-somethings ("white kids in the twenties," according to 11211 or "hipster douchebags," according to NYShitty) were setting off roman candles right next to the lot. In addition to stacks of wood, there was a large pile of sawdust which would have made quite a combo with a stray firework. The photo above shows how the site looked yesterday and the video on the jump shows some live action from the night-of.
