25 Washington Conversion Under Way

25-Water-Street-0310.jpg
Remember the residential conversion we told you was in store for 25 Washington Street in Dumbo? Well, it's started. Last month the permits were approved for interior demolition and the requisite scaffolding went up shortly thereafter. Perhaps of greater interest, we noticed on the Alt 1 application mention of a proposed two-story enlargement of the building. Anyone know the status of that effort?

what a handsome building. It will be spoiled I'm aure by the renovations. The lovely old windows will be torn out and replaced with ugly modern windows and the proportions will be ruined by a clunky rooftop addition that will look incompatible.

I agree with McKenzie on the nice old building part, but I'm always hopeful they'll do a nice conversion. Yeah, I know, just call me Charlie Brown when Lucy offers to hold the football.

25 Washington Street is in the DUMBO Historic District, so "ugly modern windows" and "a clunky rooftop addition" would need to be approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

it's in the historic district? That's a relief!
