Streetlevel: New Supermarket for Fulton Street

1125-Fulton-Street-0210.jpg
A tipster sent in this photo earlier this week of what is apparently a new supermarket on Fulton Street between Classon and Franklin Avenues. The dudes who own The Met can't be too psyched! GMAP

It will be good for the Met to have some competition.

Supermarket owners should really figure out that pictures of food on the awning is not a good idea... in 4 years, it will be faded and will be very unappetizing.

That being said, most Met Foods in this town need a wake-up call. (i.e., most are horrible if not nasty places) So I can't think that this competition will be anything but good for the folks in the neighborhood. Best of luck to the new supermarket folks!

Remember to pay your taxes! :-)

Rob - Wear a crisp clean shirt. Remember to smile and be confident. I'm sure you'll do fine. Oh, and don't steal anything or you won't last long.

That Met Food down the block ain't too shabby, truth be told. Some organics, and other sundries for the fancy newcomers and some good Caribbean staples for the old-timers.

Indeed. The one on Cortelyou is pretty iffy, or should I say whiffy. I walked in once and the whole place had a very unsavory smell. I walked right back out. Fortunately there is the Flatbush Food Co-op and Natural Frontier.

The Met Food on Vanderbilt in PH, however, was pretty good and always improving during the time that I lived there.

Yeah -- I shop regularly at the Cortelyou Met... but I only buy *packaged* things. And packaged by someone else! :-)

What I recall the Met near here was shabby but serviceable, although not blessed with an overwhelming array of choices. This will change, because based on a Key Food-Waldbaum's similar case of proximity, one dumpy, the other nicer, I have observed a heightening of standards.

Ditto comments that the Met on Fulton isn't too bad - its improved a ton over the four years I've lived nearby. However, the produce is still generally awful and everything is waaaay overpriced. The Green Planet is cheaper than them on almost everything, and Target is about half the price. Good in a pinch though.

I would say the Key Food on Fulton after Franklin Ave isnt too happy either. They are slightly better than the Met.At least their meat takes 2 days to turn green unlike the Met whose meat is green by the time you walk home. lol.Just kidding....I'd say at least a day.

i dont buy meat from any of the supermarkets in that area (my area) it's too scary
