Fire at 149 South 4th Street

A reader sent in this photo of a big fire shortly after midnight at 149 South 4th Street in Williamsburg. No word on whether anyone was badly hurt or killed, but the tipster noted that FDNY was quick to arrive on the scene. You can see another photo of the scene on the ground if you click through below. Did anyone else witness this? GMAP

Oh my goodness... I hope no one was hurt. My two fire alarms were beeping from low batteries the other day, so I took them out (and keep forgetting to stop to buy new ones). I am DEFINITELY buying some today!!!

(fire alarms = smoke detectors)

I think smoke detectors are a lot more effective in brownstones because, as opposed to detached homes, you can actually hear when your neighbors' goes off.

Smoke detectors are for pussies. ;)

I live in the building and I thank God that everyone in this building came out safe. The reason, I feel that we all survived was because of the quick thinking of my neighbor who quickly dialed 911 and of all the neighbors banging on the apartment doors on our way down. Again, we are so thankful to God and every tenant that responded quickly.

Everyone was evacuated safely. The most damage was contained in the apartment that had been engulfed by the fire. We thank you for your concern. As far as we know, it was the box of an older TV that had sparked and created this mess.

I was born and raised right next door to the building and I know almost everyone in the building Well atleast the ones that have been there as long as i remember and I am sooooooo happy to hear that everyone is ok and no one was hurt. They are a very united building and they will always be that way. They look out for eachother and they care about eachother very much and that is why they all got out of there safe and sound because of the unity that they have as a building and as neighbors and friends and the majority are family in the building. Stay strong guys everything will be ok. God is good and you all will over come this. May god bless you all. A neighbor from 155.

Lovely1, thank you for your comment and blessings, neighbor. I was born & raised in 149. I do not currently live there but its still my home. Thank God that everyone is safe. All of the damages can and will be repaired over a time period. Thanks to our fire department who were swift and efficient. Thanks to our neighbors who were supportive! Things do happen and we must learn from them. This could have been more devestating; however, love, family, unity, determination, hardwork, along with our Faith will allow us to clean, repair, and rebuild. May God continue to shine his light upon my family in 149.
