Development Watch: 19 Lefferts Place

19-Lefferts-Place-0110.jpg
It's unfortunate that the developer of 19 Lefferts Place couldn't figure out a way to make enough dough without plopping this set back penthouse on the roof of this new four-family project. After all, the scale and placement of the windows on the lower floors is quite respectful of the surrounding brownstones.

Woo hoo! Crenelations! Rain fire-arrows down upon your enemies!

To me, the set-back penthouse is far less offensive than the crenelations and naked facade. If they'd just put a proper cornice on the top and above the windows, you wouldn't even notice the set-back penthouse as you walked by.

Those crummy little decorative features make a huge difference in terms of staying in character with the neighborhood. How freaking expensive could they be? I mean, compared to these awesome "hey kids, we live in a castle!" crenelations?

Architecture over people?

Ask the new residents if they'd prefer to be replaced with a cornice.

Once sold, if the new residents care enough about something like cornices, they can use some of their maintenance money to put em up.

Not particularly offended. I don't think the penthouse looks too bad actually. I don't really know what the big deal is here...
