StreetLevel: Slope's Miracle Grill Calls it Quits

Another restaurant says goodbye on 7th Avenue: Miracle Grill, on 3rd Street, closed up yesterday, according to Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn. OTBKB reports that Bobby Flay was the original chef at Miracle Grill's first outpost in the East Village.

This place lasted much longer than the previous 4 at that location.
By DitmasSnark on November 30, 2009 2:11 PM
Agreed. The only miracle was how long they lasted.

Yeah, good riddance. Hopefully we get something in this space besides another mundane tex-mex place.

Never ate at this location, but I loved the East Village location back in the day. (Yes, I'm old.)

this is sad, because it had a pleasant outdoor eating area, and even though i didn't go that often, the fish tacos were always good.

#$%@#!
This place did a nice brunch and was a nice reminder of getting sloshed on margaritas at the old one in the village.
Never did have dinner at this location.

The outdoor space was nice.
But hopefully in its next incarnation it can have a nice outdoor space AND edible food!!

We can dream, 11217, we can dream.

that place is a jinx.

This location has historically had a BUNCH of restaurants, none that I recall as particularly successful. Hard to figure.

Honestly, Ditmas...sometimes you have to wonder though. It definitely does seem that being affluent does not buy one a refined palette. The amount of people in PS who go to some of these crappy places on 7th avenue boggles my mind. Get some standards people!

PI'm sure that part of the reason that so many restaurants have failed in this should be great location is that their rent is relatively high to the amount of business it can attract.

what an idiotic comment. do you seriously think everyone in park slope is AFFLUENT? i mean i know it might inflate your ego and your property value aspirations to believe so, but it's really not the case. :-/

I think this was the place I ended up at after the TVotR concert - seemed more like a bar than a restaurant.
Oh, and Bobby Flay sucks.
By 11217 on November 30, 2009 3:02 PM
Don't take it so literally Rob. Jesus.
Isn't your biggest complain about PS usually about all the rich white yuppies strolling around?
Good lord.
I'm usually the first person to comment about the actual diversity of Park Slope compared to what people actually think. But this particular area of PS on 3rd and 7th is indeed extremely affluent. Ever walked up there?

yeah, i was just tuggin' on your wig, sorry

I thought the outdoor space looked inviting but the interior just looked bad to me so I never had any desire even to try it. I had always wondered why no restaurant ever seemed to make a go long term at that corner.

IIRC that attractive outdoor space was built when their was a place there called Rex, 20+ years ago.
By broker on November 30, 2009 3:21 PM
I had a lot of fun at Rex.
By Arkady on November 30, 2009 3:44 PM
Yeah, Rex was o.k. Good burgers & nice sitting on the terrace.

FYI - Fort Greene Bonita gonna be Italian, not a Marlow

7th ave does have a large number of really mediocore restaurants, but I think most of them depend on drawing people from outside the neighborhood. They should break the curse on the 7th Ave/3rd Street location by bringing back Minsky's.
By slick on November 30, 2009 3:54 PM
It's a good space. My instinct is that the rent is very high. It will sit idle for awhile.
By TD on November 30, 2009 3:57 PM
FYI - That place has been open for 3 weeks.

Jeepers Creepers!! Anyone been?

never liked this spots food.
By Johnny on November 30, 2009 5:07 PM
Was mediocre. Feel for anyone that's lost their job tho.
What this area needs is a good gastro-pubby place. Tons of places to eat in this/my nabe, but closest good burger is Bonnies Grill.

Put in a strip club.

I miss Minskys. I would go there as a small child with my Mother while she drank with friends and played breakout while drinking Shirley Temples.

I'm not sad to see this place go. I don't remember what the food tasted like, because the one time I went, the service was pretty awful. Bad enough that they never got my business again. If I had to wager, I'd say the bad service sunk this place. I realize this franchise had some pedigree, but if you're going to open up in Park Slope, those of us who are not so affluent expect to be treated like human beings if we're going to spend our hard-earned dough in a restaurant. I recommend Fonda in the nabe for similar cuisine. They treated my wife and I like royalty compared to the other poor excuses for Tex Mex in the Slope. (And yes, we saved our pennies and treated ourselves and plan to go back again for another *special occasion*. We're not all rolling in it here in the Slope, but that doesn't mean we don't know good eating either.)

The food was so-so, but the Rattlesnake Bloody Marys were incredible! Anyone know a new great local spot for a bloody?
