Pathetic working squid checking in for duty.

Anybody else out there?

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 9:17 AM

Present, Mr President.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 9:19 AM

Still feeling stuffed and a little hungover b/c we did not eat until 730pm yesterday.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 9:23 AM

I'm here - in bed watching Fresh Prince of Bel Air

holla

Posted by: dirty_hipster at November 27, 2009 9:25 AM

Present, Sir!!

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 9:28 AM

dibs might be busy today...

Posted by: denton at November 27, 2009 9:28 AM

Etson, sorry to hear that you didn't eat until 7:30pm. We were able to run on a tight schedule and were able to sit down to start at 10 to 5pm last night. We were all done well before 7pm and had time to clean the dishes even. Got lucky this thanksgiving.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 9:31 AM

I had a good time, stevie, glad that you did. I think my friend planned it that way so she did not spend all day cooking.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 9:36 AM

This Thanksgiving I cooked in honor of Gourmet Magazine, which ceased publication with the November issue.

We had been subscribers on and off for many years, and in fact discovered and visited a couple of places thru the magazine, Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies being just one of them.

All the dishes we made came from recipes in the last issue.

All were good except pecan pie with orange zest. Sometimes there really is only one right way to make something.

Posted by: denton at November 27, 2009 9:41 AM

I made my brined and roasted turkey like I always do every year. I added peppercorns, allspice berries, sage, rosemary, thyme, and bay leaves to the brine so that the osmosis process delivers some of them into the turkey. The end result was a very well spiced and herby/earthy roasted turkey. SOoooo good!

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 9:48 AM

stevieb, anything with peppercorns always tastes better! Your turkey sounds good.

etson, with two young kids, Mrs C and I rarely eat before 8:30pm...we wait until they're all set for bed. Eating at 7:30 pm would be early for us.

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 9:52 AM

Hey Biff, we had kids attending the dinner as well and so we consciously chose an early time of 5pm and were done by 7pm; this way, we still had time to give them a bathe and put them to bed.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 9:55 AM

Present, sir.

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 9:57 AM

hiya working stiffs, last guest left at 10:30 last night. Roaster was in tub this morning when I went to take shower. Tonight will be washing the stem ware.

I'm thankful that there is only 34 days left in this gd 2009.

Posted by: DeLepp at November 27, 2009 9:58 AM

DeLepp, wow, you had a late night. I was lucky that we had time to wash all of our dishes and roasting pans. I think the trick with the roasting pan is to cover the bottom with a layer of aluminium foil; makes washing up very easy afterwards.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 10:01 AM

"were done by 7pm; this way, we still had time to give them a bathe and put them to bed."

And watch football after that! Unfortch, the Giants SUCK!

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 10:02 AM

I remember when 10:30 was actually an early night.

Ah, memories...

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 10:02 AM

What did everyone have for side dishes? We had broccoli cheese gratin, garlic carrots in maple syrup, roasted potatoes, wild rice pecan corn bread dressing, and apple pie and chocolates for desserts.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 10:03 AM

Biff, when did your dinner end?

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 10:04 AM

stevieb, have a really small kitchen so I just move the pan to tub after bird on carving table to make room. Washed the roasting pan in my towel this morning.

With all those spices your apt/house must have smelt delicious.

Posted by: DeLepp at November 27, 2009 10:06 AM

"broccoli cheese gratin"
YUM.

Mrs. C was pretty traditional: green beans with a homemade mushroomy sauce and fried onions, baked potatoes and squash, pasta (for the kids), stuffing and homemade gravy and cranberry sauce. All quite delish.

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 10:06 AM

Read a funny quote last night, about Roman circuses:

"Women stood up in the stands drumming with their fists on the backs of people in the seats before them and screaming hysterically: "Kill! Kill! Kill!" Even before the games started, smart young men could spot women who would give way to this madness and make a point of sitting next to them. While in the grip of hysteria, women were unconscious of everything else and the boys could play with them while they screamed and writhed at the bloody spectacle before them."

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 10:07 AM

Sweet potato gratin, sliced into very thin rectangles and stacked up on the plate (this was at the restaurant Miriam). Yum!

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 10:09 AM

I remember when I didn't leave my house till 10:30.

Butternut squash gratin, braised cippoline onions, chanterelle pancetta pear dressing, roasted parsnips and vanilla-cinnamon-apple cide panna cotta.

Posted by: DeLepp at November 27, 2009 10:09 AM

Stevie, around 15 mins after we started. :-)
Kids were done in a hurry but I made them sit around and entertained them with broken telephone and other games until Mrs C and I finished. We were done around 7:15 I guess. So much preparation and then the fun lasts for such a short time - not unlike my first sexual experience (and every subsequent one, for that matter).

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 10:10 AM

>> green beans with a homemade mushroomy sauce and fried onions

Hmmm, sounds delicious!

>>With all those spices your apt/house must have smelt delicious.

DeLepp, my apt was full of cooking aromas all day yesterday. Plus, I tried cooking the turkey at a lower temperature (325 degrees F) but prolonged the cooking time. The oven was on all day yesterday.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 10:10 AM

Present and accounted for, sir. Morning all. We started at 2pm. Cleaned up and put everything away. And then started again at 7pm. And my friends kept opening bottle after bottle of wine. So I hung out drinking with them until about midnight. Now I'm ready for leftovers.

Is it me or do the floats in the Macy's parade get more commercial every year? Very few cartoon characters. Increasingly advertising characters

"Butternut squash gratin, braised cippoline onions, chanterelle pancetta pear dressing, roasted parsnips and vanilla-cinnamon-apple cide panna cotta."

Show off!! :-)

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 10:13 AM

>>braised cippoline onions, chanterelle pancetta pear dressing

Oh my god, that sounds delicious!

For lunch yesterday, we had a roasted butternut and apple soup with pumpkin bread. We really tried to have something light before the big meal of the day later.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 10:16 AM

stevieb, all day? jeez I would have melted. What happened to a cool thansgiving. It's the perfect holiday for a fireplace but the last couple of years it's been to damn hot.

biff, one year my family ate thanksgiving dinner in 8 minutes. The whole clan, parents included had been out the night before.....

Posted by: DeLepp at November 27, 2009 10:16 AM

I was surfing and see that Reverend Jim Bakker has a show on WHT, the World Harvest Channel, wtf? I don't know what he's preaching about, but he's selling pave diamond earrings for $100!

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 10:19 AM

biff, believe me never again! Though half were made on Wednesday. The onions are the easiest thing to make and they always a crowd pleaser.

Posted by: DeLepp at November 27, 2009 10:19 AM

DeLepp, that's hilarious. Sounds like a Simpsons episode.

I started prepping right after we had our coffee and breakfast yesterday; started the washing, slicing, trussing, baking, etc around 10am. We were beat by the time dinner started.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 10:22 AM

I've seen Tammy Faye Bakker on TV recently as well. Less hair, similar eye makeup.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 10:23 AM

His son has a service at Pete's Candy Store.

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 10:24 AM

biff, indeed now if I could just collect some of those royalty checks.

Posted by: DeLepp at November 27, 2009 10:25 AM

What kind of wines did everyone drink? I went with a reliable napa valley cab.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 10:26 AM

Psst, etson, Tammy Faye died in July 2007, so I'm guessing she had less of everything:

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 10:26 AM

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 10:27 AM

Tammy Faye Bakker is dead, etson.

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 10:27 AM

"biff, indeed now if I could just collect some of those royalty checks."

D'OH!

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 10:28 AM

Surprised broncos pulled out such a large win yesterday. Maybe there is still some life in the AFC West standings. Not sure about Giants though, seems lots of troubles in Joisey.

Posted by: DeLepp at November 27, 2009 10:34 AM

>>stevieb, your food sounds great. Will you post your turkey brining recipe?

1 cup salt
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 gallon vegetable or chicken stock
1 tablespoon black peppercorns
1 1/2 teaspoons allspice berries
1 1/2 teaspoons chopped candied ginger
1 orange
1 gallon heavily iced water
Herbs: Any combination will work; i used sage, rosemary, thyme and bay leaves.

Combine the vegetable stock, salt, brown sugar, peppercorns, allspice berries, herbs, and candied ginger in a large stockpot over medium-high heat. Stir occasionally to dissolve solids and bring to a boil. Then remove the brine from the heat, cool to room temperature, and refrigerate.

Early on the day or the night before you'd like to eat:

Combine the brine, water and ice in the 5-gallon bucket. Squeeze the juices from the orange into the bucket, and toss the rest of the oranges in. Place the thawed turkey (with innards removed) breast side down in brine. If necessary, weigh down the bird to ensure it is fully immersed, cover, and refrigerate or set in cool area for 12 to 16 hours, turning the bird once half way through brining.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 10:35 AM

Guess it must have been a repeat :)! Or getting her mixed up with someone that looked similar.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 10:38 AM

You guys are going to love this. We moved Thansgiving eve. In the middle of the move, in the evening, I'm unpacking boxes in the kitchen in the rear of the house. The movers and my husband are at the old apt. I hear about eight shots, really loud, coming from the middle of the street outside. It was a drive-by two houses down. One 24-year-old is dead, and another injured.

Posted by: mopar at November 27, 2009 10:41 AM

>> It was a drive-by two houses down. One 24-year-old is dead, and another injured.

Oh my god! Which part of brooklyn is that?

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 10:44 AM

It's in bed stuy.

Posted by: mopar at November 27, 2009 10:45 AM

Reading about the party-crashers at thw WH. I recall that during the 9/11 attacks, on board Air Force One the Secret Service began checking everyone's ID and persons.

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 10:45 AM

I said hello to the victim once or twice. He was nice and friendly, not a thug. Nothing like this has happened on our block before. It has a reputation as a quiet block. Not any more I guess.

Posted by: mopar at November 27, 2009 10:51 AM

Oh my god, you knew the victim as well? Sounds like it was just a random, senseless drive-by murder? What kind of people drive around shooting others???

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 10:53 AM

My god, that's horrible. I'm sorry to hear that, mopar.

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 10:54 AM

Sorry to hear, mopar. That's scary.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 10:58 AM

I don't know what the motive was, but I'm sure it was not random. Most people on the block have lived here 20 tears, they all know each other, you say hello when you pass by.

Posted by: mopar at November 27, 2009 10:58 AM

Years not tears!

Posted by: mopar at November 27, 2009 10:59 AM

"Guess it must have been a repeat :)! Or getting her mixed up with someone that looked similar."

Or, you conjure the dead, and you're only telling us now.

Thanks, stevie!

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 11:13 AM

Tried to remember where I saw it. I think it was one of the interludes between shows on TBN, where they often have an excerpt from one of their old 'please send us money' programs instead of adverts.

Or maybe I have indeed started seeing dead people.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 11:18 AM

Or maybe I have indeed started seeing dead people.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 11:18 AM

I sure did, watching the Giants play last night!

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 11:26 AM

>>Thanks, stevie!

You're welcome.

By the way, I can't wait to make sandwiches out of the turkey leftovers. I feel cold turkey taste better after all the flavors have had the time to get acquainted with the bird.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 11:56 AM

I'm going home around 2. Will help intermittently until then, stevie.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 11:59 AM

Normally, one could just say 'Sarah Palin rocks' or 'cats suck' and await the deluge, but most of our ladies are away today.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 12:02 PM

I know, so not worth it to say anything controversial because no one is going to get riled up.

Etson, do you work in trading? The markets close at 1pm, right?

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 12:07 PM

Well if Kens shows up, that should be good for around 20 posts between him and Stevie!

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 12:07 PM

kenny boy, where are you??? I spent yesterday, during my down time in between cooking and prepping, thinking about new material for my boy Kens. My family looked at me quizzically whenever I chuckled loudly to myself while cutting up veggies.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 12:12 PM

Finance, stevie, but not trading exactly.

Amusing how you ask someone about themselves at least once in every thread, btw.

LOL! You are the lucky winner on this thread!

old habit of mine. I like to be able to put some context around the people I converse with on here.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 12:19 PM

Etson, is it my imagination or are people still cagey around me? I don't bite, if that is what you are worried about??

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 12:21 PM

Come to the gathering next Thurs. In almost all cases, people are a lot more comfortable around people they have met in person.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 12:25 PM

I would go if antidope and 11217 show up. I have always wondered what perma bulls look like, whether they grow horns and swing a tail around.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 12:27 PM

Neither of them has ever been to one of the gatherings. I would be suprised if either comes this time, although it would be nice to meet 11217 as he is a character & he sounds like he would be good fun in person. I don't have much of an opinion either way on antidope.

Posted by: etson at November 27, 2009 12:30 PM

Anyone go out at 3am to the malls for a bargain?

Posted by: Expert Textpert at November 27, 2009 12:35 PM

I'm not working. I'm just posting because I'm a pathetic loser.

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 12:44 PM

Hey losers! Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

Most definitely did not get up to hit the sales, can't bear even the idea of it.

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 12:45 PM

"Did any of you get up at an un-Godly hour to catch black friday sales?"

Yeah. I've been camped out since 11pm Wednesday, just like the idiots I saw on the news who had pitched tents in front of Wal-Mart and Best Buy. I'm sorry, but no bargain can be worth camping on the sidewalk in front of a store for 36 hours, IMHO.

Snaps, how ya feeling?

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 12:45 PM

I didn't go anywhere for a bargain. I HATE SHOPPING!!
I was driving on the Belt Parkway this morning at about 6:30am and passrf the Best Buy in South Brooklyn (the complex that has Babies R us and Kohl's and a few other stores, I forget which exit it it). The parking lot was FULL! There was a mob in front of Best Buy and an ambulance.

Posted by: Expert Textpert at November 27, 2009 12:45 PM

While I was awake at 4 am, I was not about to head to a store. I was cat wrangling instead.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 12:46 PM

Snappy, are you feeling better??

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 12:47 PM

What do you live in your car?? Or did you have an early "client" call, Dominatrix? ;)

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 12:47 PM

Cargar, I am much better today! No signs of illness except that my voice is still Charlie-Brown-teacher-esque.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 12:47 PM

"passrf"
It's a new word. It combines passed and barf. As in 'When I passed the store I wanted to barf'. Passrf.

Posted by: Expert Textpert at November 27, 2009 12:48 PM

GRRRR i never checked my facebook inbox messages this week and i had two great invites to thanksgiving from people! but when i read them last yesterday it was too late. :-/ and like the days the messages were in my inbox i was whining about having no where to go for thanksgiving, so now those two invites probably think i snubbed their invites. i made myself an omelet for thanksgiving yesterday and played video games and watched porn for most of the day lol. good times! porn acting is such a more noble profession than say a doctor or something. so the the people who put themselves in porn..Thanks, skanks!

Hi all! Great day yesterday. Sat down to dinner at around 6:30 & finished around 10:30. Best Bird-day dinner I've ever had!
Other friends of mine had 32 people - did the entire Gourmet dinner - had to start over a month ago to make sauerkraut. They've done the whole she-bang every year!

Ours was much more relaxed. No drama at all.

Posted by: Arkady at November 27, 2009 1:08 PM

I have no sock puppets! And if Hari keeps at it, I won't have any socks either. Damn cat!

Arkady, post your link to the bacon item!

Still do, but strictly at only a date. LOL!

Btw, I love your folksy manner of speech (The don'tcha's and malarkey's usually leave me all hot and bothered, in a good way)

Arkady, how did you cook your turkey? I brined and roasted mine. It came out really well as well. I am known by my family as the "turkey man" around this time of the year.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 1:12 PM

Cobble!!!
What is going on here, young lady??
Must I remind you that you're spoken for.
You are a righteous woman, or so you claim.

Posted by: Arkady at November 27, 2009 1:14 PM

Did anyone thank Mr.B for indulging a bunch of addicts?

Posted by: Arkady at November 27, 2009 1:16 PM

Aaah bacon! Maybe if I bathe Hari with the bacon soap, Pia will come to love him?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 1:16 PM

Expert, what the heck happened, give us some clues?

stevieb, Ah C'mon, come out to the Bell House. You can meet all these characters and me and BH.

Quit that! You're incorrigible, and even after I told you about BH!

yes, yes, stevie is getting wound up like a mechanical rabbit at the greyhound dog racetrack and also frothing at the mouth.

Now may be a good time to bring up Sarah Palin again, now that all the cat ladies are present. I think I like her (for the same reason that I like cobble) for her folksy manner of speech. There is something wholesome and good about that; just like mother earth.

Classic: Ingredients: 1 pkg comm'l stuffing, 2 C. home-made chick stock, 1/2 lb. butter, 3 sticks of celery - diced, 10 - 12 oz mushrooms - quartered, 2 granny smith apples - peeled, cored & sliced in 16ths, 2 med yellow onions - peeled & diced, 1 pkg. Jones sausage roll.

Really, really good!

ugh my grandmother guilt tripped me btw threatening to move back to nj and live with her crazy alcoholic bingo going best friend childhood if i dont go down to south carolina and visit her soon. they told me i can just meet them in the airport for an hour or so and then leave if i want, but my question is do airplane schedules even work that way? i cant believe im 32 and have never been on a plane. it's not that im scared of planes or anything, it just never came up really where i needed to take a plane. like could i fly down there, and get a flight back an hour later? im probably at some point going to HAVE to do this because she CANNOT move back to NJ. i will not allow it. i do feel bad i havent seen her in like 3 years which seems like a super long time.

im freezing in my apt right now! now i sound like cobblehiller. :0

Snaps, don't tell randi, but I treated the CDog to a few strips of holiday bacon this morning. I broke the strips into small pieces and put the plate between her paws, directly in front of her little snout, so she wouldn't have to get up or move at all, although we went for a longish walk this morning, and she did fine (until we were a block from home and then she dug her heels in as usual).

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 1:52 PM

Rob... Flying to SC is expensive and very unreliable. Never under $250. I fly to Columbia and my return flight gets canceled about 90% of the time. That said, if you plan on going for a visit travel in late March. Everything is in bloom and the weather is great.

Posted by: IMBY at November 27, 2009 1:55 PM

Uh oh! A lover's duel! Is dueling allowed at holiday shindigs? I know dueling is a part of Festivus (the feats of strength) but how will the Hanukkah/X-mas/Kwanzaa/Winter Solstice folks feel about this? :-)

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 1:55 PM

I think dueling is a very classy ancient art and needs to be revived.

Posted by: stevieb at November 27, 2009 1:59 PM

Ha! I did that very thing - the day Mr. B did his "usual suspects" rant - and it was HORRENDOUS! Cold and rainy. This was Myrtle Beach.

Seeing an old college friend made it worthwhile however.

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 2:02 PM

LOL Cobble! I'm actually poo-pooing the dueling! It's not very X-masy, Kwanzaaish, Winter Solticeish, Hanukkahish...we must remain all inclusive after all. Besides, since I cant have my Festivus pole, there is no use in performing the Feats of Strength :-(

LOL

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:03 PM

haha, cobble, I will stop now, since I am outta here. To be continued on Monday....

What Usual Suspects rant did Mr. B do?

Posted by: Arkady at November 27, 2009 2:14 PM

Arkady, that happened way back when. It's how the term PLUSA was born. That and Randi constantly calling us pathetic losers.

Winthropst, never heard of the nickel diner. My fam in LA live in the straight up boonies! They are lucky to have a walmart!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:17 PM

Thank heavens! I think I liked "angry stevieb" better! LOL!

Ok, ok, Snaps, if you want the Festivus Pole, I'll go along with it. Let's ask Biff if the Bell House will allow it!

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 2:19 PM

Cobble, now that I think about it, perhaps a Festivus pole would be a bad thing...Imagine all the PLUSAs that might take that as an opportunity to brush up on their dirty dancing! LOL

CobbleSnaps - Are we wrapping the xmas goodies?

Posted by: Arkady at November 27, 2009 2:22 PM

"Imagine all the PLUSAs that might take that as an opportunity to brush up on their dirty dancing!"

Do I have to?? LOL!!

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 2:24 PM

Good idea Arkady! Cobble, perhaps we should ask people to wrap their gag gift with newspaper - a piece of newspaper that has an article on it exemplifying the crash of the Mutant Asset Bubble. 10 Points for any PLUSA who manages to find a piece of paper who's real estate section references BoCoCa or GoCaGa!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:25 PM

Ooh, good question Arkady. What do you think, Snaps? Might be more fun, but will it stop people from bringing the dollar gifts?

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 2:25 PM

I think this is Mr. B's "Usual Suspects" rant:

Brownstoner, A Thought on Comments, 12/15/08:

http://www.brownstoner.com/brownstoner/archives/2008/12/comments.php

Who do you suppose was the long-time reader who complained that the "comments are so dominated by bickering among a handful of readers that (a) there is rarely coherent on-topic discussion and (b) he feels like it's a private party that he's not particularly welcome at."

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 2:26 PM

Cobble, now that I've imagined it, I shouldn't be the only one with that ghastly image stuck in my head!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:26 PM

The childhood photo, we get that back right?

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 2:27 PM

Cargar, it was Randi. At the time, Mr. B failed to realize that Randi got jumped on because his/her very first post (and every one after that) was nothing but name calling towards the 'regulars'. Several posters then jumped on the bandwagon and claimed us to be an unfriendly bunch that they were tired of reading posts from.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:28 PM

Before I reread the thread...I'm going to guess 11217.

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 2:29 PM

Jester, yes, you keep the photo. You just have to show it on request :)

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:29 PM

Seriously though, maybe we can ask people to put the gift in one of those dollar store gift bags - they actually only cost .33 so we aren't increasing the cost factor by much.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:31 PM

LOL @ the woman in the pic in the thread above about the Gifted flea.. on the lower left corner. her face just screams 'that's HOW much!?!"

A mention of pole and dirty dancing and I make an appearence again.

Anyway, I hate to do this, but CGar, if you're still reading. Check your email. I sent you one earlier and for some odd reason, I always end up in your spam folder and you respond a few days later telling me so.

Cargar, this clam does not wish to blind people with the horror that is my dancing (on a pole at least!) so no Festivus Pole humping for me!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:34 PM

ROFL, ET! You actually end up in my "Porn" folder, not my "Spam" folder. I'll check. Actually I left my CrackBerry downstairs with the puppy, so I'll open my email now. . . . God I hope she's offering to put on her high heels and whip me . . .

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 2:36 PM

But, Snappy, *rob*, DH, Kens and I LOVED when you pole danced for us in your apartment!

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 2:36 PM

snappy, I didn't reread that thread, but that was before the Open Thread was born and randi came along much later.
It was because of people compalining that a few would veer off topic that the Open Thread came about. Those were wild times.

Posted by: Expert Textpert at November 27, 2009 2:36 PM

On cue, Biff appears when we're discussing pole-dancing Clams

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 2:37 PM

Biff, we wanna see a pic we haven't viewed yet! Baby pics it is!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:37 PM

How is that there are NO comments by Biff in Mr. B's rant thread? (Though I noticed at least one where Cobble claims she'll be civil.)

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 2:38 PM

I POLE DANCED IN MY APT???? WTF??? PLEASE TELL ME YOU ARE KIDDING!!!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:38 PM

Expert, then there must have been another time Mr. B sought out comments cause I specifically recall people in the thread I'm thinking of calling for an end to the OT and all of us telling them that if they didn't like it they shouldn't read it. That's when we got branded as an exclusionary group.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:40 PM

the last pole i danced was at cattyshack at their pole dancing win 100 bux contests. i broke the pole and thus lead a rocky relationship between myself and the meanie genie door ladies. but whatever, that place always smelled like feet and sweat lol

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at November 27, 2009 2:40 PM

Ok, I just looked at the thread Cargar posted. That's not the one that caused the uproar. There was definitely another one and it created a helluva lot more posts than that.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:42 PM

Rob, do you still have Snappy's mother's phone number?

where and when is this shindig?

Posted by: Expert Textpert at November 27, 2009 2:43 PM

"How is that there are NO comments by Biff in Mr. B's rant thread?"

I think that was the one day in Brownstoner history I decided to not get involved. I commented on it in various Open Threads afterwards though.

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 27, 2009 2:43 PM

yeah snappy you dont remember? i was on the phone with your mom and was giving her a play-by-play of your pole dance moves!

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at November 27, 2009 2:43 PM

Does a polka count?

Posted by: Arkady at November 27, 2009 2:44 PM

You know what, I now remember what thread it was. It was where Mr. B. invited comments asking people how we could 'bring up' the level of comments/subjects discussed in the OT.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:44 PM

Cobble, thankfully said fateful conversation took place on my cellphone so NO ONE has my mommy's digits! LOL

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:45 PM

The rant thread was the last Friday in March, the 26th perhaps.

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 2:45 PM

I posted the thread that led immediately to the OT, which, as wasder points out, *rob* had suggested weeks earlier.

Yes, Snappy, you pole-danced, while *rob* talked to your mom, and we all stuck dollar bills in your G-string? You really don't remember that? It was right after we bought beer and chips at the bodega.

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 2:45 PM

True. But, the shower curtain rod fell down, and you used that, and we re-hung it before we left. NOW do you remember?

Oh yeah...now I remember...

"What can we do to improve the overall the quality of comments on the blog, to encourage lurkers to get involved without alienating some of the more active and, um, spirited commenters? We hear quite often from regular readers who feel uncomfortable, even intimidated, with the prospect of commenting. This isn't surprising given the verbal beat-down one new commenter received from a gang of regulars a couple of weeks ago. Nor is the level of discussion going on in today's Open Thread really where we'd like it to be. "

This piece of the segment was particularly egregious, since it referred to randi and his/her punk a$$ posts.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 2:56 PM

Oh dear, reports on Tiger Woods say he's in serious condition. Just head lines at the moment. Saying it happened at about 2:30 am near Orlando.

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 3:00 PM

Geesh...I read back some of my comments in that thread. I was ANGRY!!! LOL

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:01 PM

Yikes. Poor Tiger and family :-( Hope he turns out to be ok.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:02 PM

The thread Snappy posted is pretty funny. Biff is MIA there, too. You gotta love Dave: "I'm probably one of the more annoying commenters to many people and for that I do not apologize."

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 3:02 PM

jester, did you post the same thread as Snappy?

"Tiger Woods was seriously injured Friday morning in a car accident, the Florida Highway Patrol says.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Woods pulled out of his driveway at about 2:25 a.m., struck a fire hydrant and drove into a tree on a neighbor's property. Orange County Fire Rescue received a call for aid at Woods' residence at 2:28 AM ET.

Woods, who was driving a 2009 black Escalade, was taken to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Florida, in serious condition.

WESH 2 News reports that Woods has been treated for facial lacerations. According to WESH, the Florida Highway Patrol has determined that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

According to the Sentinel, Health Central Hospital said at approximately 2:30 PM ET that Woods was not currently at the hospital, but it was not clear whether he was treated and released."

Posted on ABC news: http://bk.ly/30

Can you believe this: The MAN IS IN THE HOPSITAL IN SERIOUS CONDITION, and these assheads are concerning themselves with the value of his house?? G*d help us.

Tiger Woods was seriously injured early Friday when he hit a fire hydrant and a tree near his Florida home, authorities said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the PGA star hit the fire hydrant and tree as he pulled out of his driveway in his 2009 Cadillac sport utility vehicle.

Woods was taken to Health Central Hospital. Officials there did not have record of him as a patient, though the news release said Woods' injuries were serious.

The highway patrol said the crash is still under investigation, and charges are pending. However, the highway patrol said the crash was not alcohol-related.

Woods, 33, owns a home in the exclusive subdivision of Isleworth near Orlando. Orange County property records indicate his home is valued at $2.4 million.

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 3:13 PM

Did this thing freeze or is it me?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:13 PM

Gee willakers! Why would they feel the need to post that info in the news report about his home value? I HATE THE MEDIA! URGH!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:15 PM

Alcohol is NOT a factor? Isn't it odd, though, that he'd pull out of his OWN driveway, in the middle of the night, and hit a fire hydrant and then a neighbor's tree?

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 3:17 PM

OMG, I have non-cancelable plans to go out tonight, but I'm so tired, and so NOT in the mood for drinks (if you can imagine), and I have a bit of a sore throat (no homo), and I just want to stay in with the beast tonight.

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 3:19 PM

I'm thinking if alcohol wasn't an issue, maybe he was angry and therefore peeled out or something.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:19 PM

I mean seriously, right? Another report goes on to talk about how he didn't win any championships this year! I mean WTF?

ACK, the AP did it too!

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 3:19 PM

Yes, snappy, after the turkey. You don't remember? Sorry to post so intermittently -- DH and I just finished cleaning the old apt. Phew. We're taking the rest of the day off, going shopping. God, I am so nervous now, like what did we do. Hope nothing else bad hapens, hope this was just a fluke.

Posted by: mopar at November 27, 2009 3:20 PM

"Officials say there is no record of him as a patient." Uhm, did they ever consider that he might using a pseudonym? Nah....

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 3:21 PM

"maybe he was angry "

That's what I thought when I heard that he was leaving his OWN house at 2:30 in the AM.

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 3:22 PM

CGar, yes I did. I was in South Carolina that day, that's why I remember.

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 3:26 PM

Same here, CGar, would love to just lay down and watch movies all night. And...we're idiots and we made plans for tomorrow and Sunday nights too! G*d help me!

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 3:27 PM

Either angry or he couldn't resist the 4 am sale at Kohl's either!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:27 PM

Maybe he had a stroke. What his home value has to do with it, can't imagine. Maybe they needed .5 more inches and couldn't immediately lay their hands on any other facts -- like his accomplishments in golf, for example.

Posted by: mopar at November 27, 2009 3:27 PM

people with that much money have no right to be "angry" at anyone or any situation. sounds like he queened out and left his house in a hissy and crashed into a fire hydrant. how much damage can that even do tho? on that note, i hope he is fine and stuff. what a weird story. i think the point of saying how much is house is worth to give a dig on just how cheap houses in florida are.

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at November 27, 2009 3:27 PM

Congrats on the move, Mopar!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:28 PM

I was supposed to meet a woman at a bar tonight, but I feeling a black&white movie marathon, hot popcorn and hot apple cider instead.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:29 PM

"And...we're idiots and we made plans for tomorrow and Sunday nights too!"

Me, too, and all I wanna do is sleep and watch TV right now. At least we're going out early tonight.

Posted by: CGar at November 27, 2009 3:30 PM

"he couldn't resist the 4 am sale at Kohl's either!"

That must be it!! LOL!!

mopar, Very sorry to hear about the shooting. I'm sure it's unsettling on the day you move in. I'm guessing it's not a regular 'feature' though. Call your local precinct and ask them for stats?

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 3:31 PM

"I was supposed to meet a woman at a bar tonight"

A date? You better not back out, young lady!!

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 3:31 PM

Ha! Not really a date. I just told her I'd check in on her tonight. She was really sad last week. She was cute, but she got really drunk and went home with another girl :-(

Were at Tai Thai in Williamsburg looking out the window and playing Hasidic or Hipster?

Posted by: mopar at November 27, 2009 3:37 PM

"Hasidic or Hipster?"

ROFL!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:38 PM

Bah, Snappy, that's not right!

Well, my recommendation to everyone is to go out early and get back home early!

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 27, 2009 3:39 PM

My recommendation to everyone is to stay in and curl up with a hot drink and a good flick!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:42 PM

Reminds me of an old joke, about a rich kid: his idea of a hike is when the chauffeur drops him off at the bottom of his driveway.

Posted by: infinitejester at November 27, 2009 3:44 PM

Thanks all. Oh Cobble the stats aren't too good -- here's hoping those stats stay on the other side of the nabe. Some guy in a black outfit with a hat just walked by and maybe he was a Hasidic hipster. You really couldn't tell. Ok we are off to go shopping. Love to all & happy holidays.

Posted by: mopar at November 27, 2009 3:45 PM

ROFL! A Hasidic Hipster!!! I love it! But wait, no skateboard with Hebrew lettering spray painted on it? LOL

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 27, 2009 3:46 PM

Time to go procure the apple cider for my spinster-ish activities for the evening.

Happy Friday everyone!

Cobble, Cargar, DH, in my office first thing Monday!!

Mopar, ok...I'll let you slide this time - I'll read the laughing at this most serious situation as simple stress from moving during the holiday season. :-)

Drops off a large bouquet of flowers and a fresh batch of shortbread cookies on Snappy's desk for her to find on Monday morning.

Leaves note in cash box: "Dear Ms. Snappy, Sorry there's no cash in here, I took it. I spent it on boys and booze. I'll replace it as soon as my next check comes in. Most sincerely, Cobble".

HOARDERS!

On A&E! New season starts Monday at 10pm. Marathon re-runs on Monday. Set your TiVo recorders. The show is hypnotic. And addictive. Much like the OT.

SNAPPY!! *rob*!! Check your program guides for Monday. Maybe they'll run the bxgrl/MM episode - the ladies with 500 cats.

[Takes a couple of Cobble's delectable shortbread cookies]

[Clap off!]

**munching on shortbread cookies**

WHERE'S THE MOO JUICE?

Bribery? Really? How can you bribe me with cookies (they are quite tasty though!) and not leave a glass of moo juice to dunk them in? Hmmm...seems a couple of cookies are missing from the decorative tin. Oh, and it seems I've got flowers. Nice touch :-)

I found a remote control for an LCD set, but no LCD television. WTF? Cargar, have you not learned yet to bolt expensive and portable bribes to the wall so X-mas Rob can't steal them? Geesh.

Well, guess I'll leave now.

**CLAP OFF**

In the words of the immortal Laura Petrie, "Ohhhh *robbbbbbb*!!"

PS, *rob*, remember when I told you you could always call me to bail you out? Well, if you read the not-so-fine print, you'll see there's a septic tank exception.

Snapster, how ya feelin? Must be better given the way you're woolfin down those cookies!

Posted by: CGar at November 29, 2009 5:31 PM

Cargar, new discovery: Cobble's cookies cure a cold! I say we talk to her about patenting those babies and opening up a shop (using the lawfirm of Snappy, Cargar & Slopey, LLP. of course). Naturally, we'll take 47% of the profits. SCS, LLP. doesn't work for cheap! Cobble, that's no problem right?

:-)

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 29, 2009 9:29 PM

Naturally, we'll take 47% of the profits. SCS, LLP. doesn't work for cheap!

As Rob might say: "Hells to the no!"

Cobble's Cold Cure Cookies' aren't for sale!! I mean unless you sweeten that offer!

Besides, I have a law firm of my own: Chad, Chet & Courtney, LLP!

Posted by: cobblehiller at November 29, 2009 11:31 PM

OMG. I can't believe we have to be back here in 8 hours!
