Yes, it's a wonderful Fall Friday and I feel good....

I think it's quite presumptuous of the Yankees to be claiming to be World Champions. They haven't played me yet....
Posted by: the chicken at November 6, 2009 9:29 AM
Nor have they played the Tokyo Giants or the Osaka Tigers.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 9:32 AM
They didn't play across the world, but damn did they ever play those Phillies like a cheap banjo :-)

Good morning from Glenn Campbell:
Like a limestone cowboy
Riding out on a tough market like it was a rodeo
Like a limestone cowboy
Getting half off bids from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone

chicken - I know what you mean - its all very well calling it the World Series, but when the fans proclaim they're World Champions because they won it....

Nice one Broke!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 9:40 AM
Ack! I just got back from dropping my 5 year old downtown, 2 year old strapped to my front (thank GOD I didn't take the stroller) and was actually a little freaked out a few times it was so difficult getting across Broadway and through the sidewalks so excited, so plentiful and so rowdy were the Yankees fans. Our subway stop was shut down, I got caught in a bottleneck at one of those metal barricades, everyone angry, shoving, trying to get to work or wherever...
It was then I wished they hadn't won. I know, sigh, sacrilege!
But Happy Friday all - don't think the sky could possibly be a more crisp and lovely shade of blue. And to those of you who love the Yankees, congrats!
Posted by: Nokilissa at November 6, 2009 9:40 AM
if someone's going to complain about world champs label, NFL football is it. unlike hockey, baseball, and basketball, the league doesn't have that many foreign players playing so can't even claim to have drawn the best talent around the world hence winner is world champ

"Chicken, they asked but UK said they have no baseball team.

No - we call it "rounders" here, and it's usually played by girls.

Right, boys play the rough and tumble game of cricket.
In the US, a cricket often serves as consigliere to a wooden puppet who wants to become real boy.

Landmark Preservation
Details on the wall,
Landmark Preservation,
Cornice 'bout to fall,
Thirteen month old baby,
Broke the treated glass
Seven years of hearings,
Violations in your past
When you install things
That you leave off the plans,
Then you suffer,
Preservation ain't the way
Landmark preservation
Wash off modern tans
Rid me of the problem,
Do all that you can,
Keep me in a daydream,
Keep foundation strong,
You don't wanna save me,
Sad is the song
When you install things
That you leave off the plans
Then you suffer,
Preservation ain't the way,

Has anyone else noticed that on Halstead's website in the section for New Developments, they have a completely separate listing for Toren. They've got "Toren" and then "Toren Affordable." Ha! By labeling one of them "affordable," it implies, whether they mean to or not, that the other is priced ridiculously and therefore you shouldn't even bother to look at the regular "Toren." I'll never understand some brokers.

Stop by midtown again for a coffee and we'll go to the Davidoff store.
The NYC Davidoff store will be a letdown to the London one which carries REAL Cuban cigars.
Bring some back with you (wrappers removed) when you come across the pond.

Stevieb and I continue our inane discussion about salary & bonus caps in the friday Links thread.
For all of you arguing that Wall Street makes too much money and salary & bonus caps are necessary I ask you this:
While we're at it, i think Derek jeter and the whiole team makes too much money compared to the rest of the world. Why shouldn't the government step in and cap Yankee salaries??
The Yankees got public taxpayer money in the construction of the new park!!!!!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 10:41 AM
Vegas is a decidedly straight in it's debauchery, unless you're a chick. Then you'd do pretty well on most dance floors.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at November 6, 2009 10:43 AM
Box of Cobs on order then.
Posted by: the chicken at November 6, 2009 10:43 AM
Snappy, a friend once told me that I was as subtle as a brick in the face.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 10:44 AM
Dave, on a road trip to Vegas with chicken and Kens (who I figured was in) and DH (just guessing) I'm figuring strip clubs, not gay bars.
BTW, what are you doing to celebrate your birthday?!?! Big plans, I hope.

CarGar- I wanted to tell you myself. I was at DIBS' door last night after you left. I brought my torches and pitchforks to make stevie happy but left them outside. Chicken if by bikes you mean something chopped with a massive engine and lots of leather and chrome, call me! I want to set off the car alarms as I ride past.

If you want strip clubs go to Canada, or better yet, Bangkok.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 10:47 AM
DIBS -- I have absolutely NO problem with the idea of capping the Yankees salaries! (And it's not just because I'm from Boston.) I understand tax payers helping out with various "civic centers" to make sure there is arts, culture, entertainment in the city... HOWEVER, when the organization has an operating budget that exceeds most 3rd world nations, make the majority of ticket prices and concessions out of reach for almost everyone, and still looks for a hand out to build UNNECESSARILY... then fuck them. Giuliani should be put in prison for brokering this bullshit.
Oh -- and my ire is not limited to the Yankees. What about the organizations at Lincoln Center? Unaffordable ticket prices to most, the salaries of various employees find their way into NYT headlines ($500,000 head stage hand), no attempt to contain costs, and they are still begging for money... both from donors AND the tax payers!
(I actually have a friend who is a ballet dancer there -- it is NOT her salary I have a problem with... the actual artists make a healthy, but not crazy salary.)

Foreigner, "Cold As Ice", dedicated to Snappy (her fave song):
The house is overpriced
You're willing to sacrifice our cash
You never take advice
Someday you'll pay the price, I know
I've seen it before, it happens all the time
You want pocket doors, you leave the budget behind
You're gutting the kitchen, it's Bosch all the way
A fortune on fixtures, but someday you'll pay
The house is overpriced
You're willing to sacrifice our cash
You want paradise
But someday you'll pay the price, I know
I've seen it before, it happens all the time
You want en suite baths, you leave the budget behind
You're fixing crown moldings, tin ceilings must stay
A fortune on granite, but someday you'll pay
(O-ver-priced) You know the house is
(O-ver-priced) It's overpriced to me

Snappy, can I just say that, for an "alleged" lesbian, you've been focusing an awful lot on the tea bags lately - shaving, waxing, now chopping 'em off. I don't want to be anywhere near you and a pair of scissors when you've been drinking.

Well, tybur, that could lead to an interesting, but highly rancorous discussion of what a person's worth is in today's society. The people who get to be the arbiters in this discussion are usually those somewhere on top. Is that fair? Is education "worth" more than experience? Is one's usefulness to society a higher calling than the sheer abiltity to command a make money? Why shouldn't a craftsman, who trains, then apprentices for years before going from journeyman to craftsman, be paid as highly as someone who goes through his family or school connections, and lands a high paying job for which he has no experience, or even aptitude? Who is meeting the needs of the greater community more, a seamstress or a CEO? Why do insurance companies have tables that can pin down your worth, so that in a lawsuit claiming damages, they can claim a 64 year old teacher is "worth" less than a 24 year old graduate student? Is "worth" only in dollars, or jobs or in total life experience?
Sorry, pretty heavy for a Friday.
Posted by: Montrose Morris at November 6, 2009 11:11 AM
M4L- Yeah, but then I have to do a road trip in a car with a bunch of guys all lusting for titties.
I'd rather fly out to Vegas, chill in a luxury suite, hang by the pool and get tan, eat at a bunch of yummy foodie spots, gamble a bit, drink (a lot) and get craploads of spa treatments to wash all the gluttony and sins away.
That's my idea of a fabulous long weekend.

The gov't isn't "giving" trillions first of all. Many billions will actually be paid back except maybe for Fannie & freddie but those were already government backed comapnies and it's the governments own fault they weren't keeping tabs on the management.
For a writer you really need to get more of your facts straight, stevie. But most journalists never do.

So had a conversation with my tequila friend....
Mexicali on Court and Atlantic is one place that is going to be selling his product. He would definitely be interested in hosting an event there so long as the owner would agree, which I would assume is no problem. He said they have a back room. If you find another place (doesn't have to be Tex-Mex) he can also talk to the management there after the fact.
If you are interested in having him at your event, let me know and I will put you in touch with him. If not, no big deal.
You can check out the tequila at Riazul.com. It will be available at Heights Chateau next week.

hi.
i have the day off (fridays for the rest of the year).
i know no one reads my posts anyway so i doubt anyone will answer..
but is it true the last 4 mayors of nyc are gay? that cant be true, is it?
i sorta wish i realized the parade was today, i so would have gone :( even tho im not a yankees fan, but it looks like fun. im watching it on the tv and the only problem i have with this parade is that it's so drab in color. it's so grey in lower in manhattan, and everyone is dressed in blue and black. no flava at all. oh well.
i should take duke to the park or something, it's a perfect fall day. im going to force myself to do that.
ive been on Chantix for 4 days now and one of the MAJOR side effects that is COMMON apparently is suicidal feelings and blah blah blah, etc. wtf? i am SO not suicidal but last night i had some sort of vision flip and my mood shifted really badly. they said if this happens to you to stop taking it, so i think i should stop taking it right? if anyone is thinking about quitting smoking, id suggest just using the patch or the gum if you need help, but dont go with the prescription pills.. Zyban used to be prescribed to quit smoking, and that was also an anti depressant, but i think it was pulled off the market, or at least no longer presscribed to quit smoking. this Chantix crap has been out since 2006 and all i read online now are horror stories. one of the other very very (almost everyone who has ever taken it) side effect is the effect it has on your dreams. you literally dream the second you fall asleep til the second you wake up, and you go thru like 100 dreams, and you wake up and remember ALL of them. i literally remember every single dream i had this week. normally if you dont write them down you forget about them. it's smoething im enjoying IMMENSELY. it's like wow, i have a vivid lucid life, but im asleep, and i can remember it! it makes having no real life not even matter if you can dream like that and literally FEEL the dream and remember it all. a little hard to explain. this drug was marketed waaaaay wrong. it shouldnt be for non smokers, it should be for psychotherapy.

Rob, talk to the doc that prescribed it for you. And yes, zyban is the same as the antidepressant wellbutrin. Can cause seizures.

Hey Montrose Morris -- I'm not suggesting anything about how much someone is "worth." I'm simply making reference to the inability of publicly funded/supported organization to contain costs. (I work for one of those by the way) It's related to this never ending and ridiculous battle to be the best of the best when the impact is *marginal* at best.
Example, A small business (let's taks a coffee shop) has to make a profit... do they automatically pay $75,000 to their baristas and janitors because that will attract the BEST folks to do the job and then they will have the reputation of having the absolute best coffee and best customer service and cleanest floors in all the land?! NO. They accept 90% best and pay their baristas a fraction of that amount.
The same with these non-profit organizations at Lincoln Center. They EXIST to provide culture and entertainment to the City and State of New York. I would argue that they don't do this because of their ticket prices. What if the AMAZING stage manager paid $500,000 decided to go to Cleveland? What if instead, they paid a different person $250,000 (still a healthy salary), but he was only 90% a talented... Well, I all of a sudden see the INSTANT ability to provide the public 7,000 half-priced ticket to see the Opera or whatever. A HUGE net increase in the "Public Good" while the quality suffered only *marginally*
That's what I'm talking about. Don't ask me to subsidize you if you take ALMOST NO EFFORT to fulfill the charter that you're supposed to be guided by.
Is the stage hand/artist/banker "worth" what they are paid? Who cares... what I care about is:
* Can the salaries and other expenses by justified?
* Are you taking a bottom-line approach to budgeting? Or are you just changing the bottom-line once you decide what the expenses are... and putting your hand out to make up for the shortfalls in revenue?
And the Yankees? Seriously? They can't bankroll their own projects?! You must be fucking joking. Some cities are worried that they will *lose* a team if they don't make all sort of concessions (e.g., Seattle and the Sonics)... but guess what folks, the Yankees ain't leaving even if we started TAXING them. And, by the way, I think we should.

ENY, your thoughts on off-season roster moves for the champs? I'm thinking they'll be looking to reduce cost as they need to come up with a 4 yr 100M extension for the captain. Jeter should take ARod out to dinner after the extension cause both big contracts are that big cause they are set relative to the massive contracts ARod signed. ARods' 25M per got Jeter's 17M per. So ARod's 30M per now should get Jeter's extension at 25M

"ENY, I bought you "The Clapper" for Christmas. ("Clap on! Clap off! The clapper.")"
Thanks, Car Gar. They way the Yanks are set up, I'll be doing a lot of clapping the next couple of years.
M4L, it's not my job to work deals for the Yanks, and I'm not a finance guy like you. So I don't go to the level of detail you do, i.e., figuring out how much money the Yanks will spend. I look at it from the baseball angle, which is probably just as reliable, considering the Yankees stick to the script by making a real effort EACH year to win it all. So in that sense, the Yanks will spend whatever it takes to make the team at least as good as this year's and if there is a clear stud out there (i.e., John Lackey, who I expect the Yanks to target) the Yanks will probably pay what it takes to get him and make the money part work.
I really don't get you folks who worry about how much Derek Jeter, Wall Streeters, etc. make. Who gives a sh*t? You make whatever you can get, period. I don't go around worrying about how much the other guy's got. I just concentrate on how much I can get, and go after it. Much simpler that way.

Thats a healthy attitude.
Posted by: dittoburg at November 6, 2009 1:54 PM
Montrose Morris -- I wasn't trying to respond as if you were picking a fight. I was trying to be clear that how much someone is "worth" is not my beef -- but rather how much an organization feels they *need* to pay people.
It's nice to see that East New Yrok approaches all of these discussion with such a black-and-white mentality that misses the whole point of the discussion. "you're "worth" whatever you can get or whatever someone is willing to pay you. Case closed. Some people find this hard to understand."
I think it's interesting that ENY doesn't undertstand that in many cases it is US, the taxpayer, that is paying this person. Our government is subsidizing the Yankees. Our government is subsidizing the Opera. Our government is subsidizing the stage manager that is "worth" $500,000. This is OUR money.
I argue that WE should stop paying these subsidies until these organizations can prove that they are taking REAL EFFORT for contain spiraling costs increases... and that they are taking REAL EFFORT to provide the product or service to SOCIETY AT LARGE that they promised by accepting these subsidies. I want the Opera and the Ballet at Lincoln Center to receive money from the government.... however, not simply to allow them to spend it in an irresponsible manner.
Would we stand for paying the Governor a $5 million salary? What if he is "worth" $5 million? He made $30 million a year in industry... there's no way we can attract the most qualified governor unless we can pay at least $5 million. Right?
As long as the stage manager at the Opera House is being subsidized by the taxpayer... these types of questions should be asked. Is that extra 10% of awesome worth paying someone $250,000 more than someone that is 90% awesome.
Posted by: tybur6 at November 6, 2009 1:56 PM
cmon T6. How can you quantify REAL EFFORT? You're looking to start a bureaucratic disaster. If all this subsidizing bothers you, why not just take a right-wing approach and stop all subsidies to the arts. That would accomplish what you want a lot easier.

"What happened to that Bing search engine that Microsoft paid 80 million to promote? Does anyone actaully use it?"
If you have msn as your homepage and don't type into the google toolbar fast enough, you kind of end up using it by accident. Think that is where most of its hits come from b/c it completely sucks as a search engine.
Posted by: etson at November 6, 2009 2:00 PM
ditto, why not give bing a try? If you're using firefox, like you should be, you can just add it to the search engine box. I've been trying it and it often gets cleaner and better results. Not always.

November 6 Scorpios are passionate, romantic individuals who communicate on many levels. Although relationships are the center of their lives, they are self-sufficient. They may seem serious, but they know how to have a good time. They love luxury and all the creature comforts. When they feel blue, they have a tendency to pamper themselves.

Give me a break. I understand subsidies, OK. And i can tell you that and one can easily make the argument that the amount of economic activity the Yankees create justify the subsidy. I can understand if you question whether the economic activity created equal to the subsidy, but subsidies exist for a reason.
Why don't you just run for mayor or city council or public advocate something and stop whining about your problems with subsidies, executive pay, etc. on a blog already? If subsidies to undeserving people/organizations are creating such a problem in your life and the lives of your fellow NYers, than do something about them already! Whining on a blog will certainly not further your goals.

Denton - It's not easy to quantify and I'm not suggesting that it even has to be quantified in a strict sense. What I'm suggesting is that a "value" has to be placed on the impact on society.
The Metropolitan Opera... for example... has ticket prices WAAAY beyond the reach of most New Yorkers, but they still scream poverty and are regularly on the brink of bankruptcy. Something is not right. Why should the taxpayer be subsidizing an organization that (1) can't seem to function with fiscal restraint, and (2) excludes the very population it is meant to serve?
The Yankees... for example... they're player payroll is DOUBLE the team they just defeated. However, the taxpayer was required to subsidize their building project. A building project that was purely for "image" and prestige -- they had no problem selling tickets or making fans happy in the old stadium. The end result was increased ticket costs and amazingly high-priced concession... Again, EXCLUDING the very population these subsidies are meant to serve.
I don't take a right-wing approach to the funding of civic organizations... they serve much to much of an important role in a city. HOWEVER, when it comes to NYC, the two examples above and many others simply DO NOT PLAY THIS ROLE. They are elite organizations that have lost touch with the city. However, the entire population of the city has to pay for it. I would argue that little struggling neighborhood-based arts organization has a MUCH more direct impact on the city than the Met or the Yankees... do they get millions of dollars thrown at them without question?! No. They have to beg and plead every year to have a few thousand dollars tossed in their direction.
Shaking up the status quo is what I'm talking about. Putting the Metropolitan Opera and the like on notice that its not an automatic thing. They have to EARN their money. (What have you done for me lately?) Why is that so strange? The investment banker has to earn his money... he doesn't get a $3 million salary because 20 years ago he was a great employee.

ENY, Yanks controlling budget - Not from my mouth. think Yanks mgt and/or the sons acknowledged this past season they locking the budget - ie no more big increases post the Tex signing. I can't see Yanks going after Lackey if they don't shed the $$$ off existing payroll to cover the the 16M or so per Yr needed to sign Lackey. as a fan, I love owners spending the big $$$ to put forth best talent onto team. I only bitch when owners spend it in stupid manner in a capped league - prime example is our sad bunch KNICKS

ENY -- You're a douche. While you're right, my "whining" may not have as large of an impact as being the friggin' Mayor, but don't be so reductionist.
Do you think Op-Eds in the NY Times have no impact? Getting people to think about an issue and them making a decision about a leader when they come up for an election... seems like a valid reason to "whine on a blog." I'm not going to run for public office -- but I can try to shape who is elected... You're lucky though. You've made up you mind about everything and see no value in hearing others' opinions. That's good. No, great.

How much they pay their players is secondary... though one could say the the law of diminishing returns is alive and well. Double the payroll, but still have to go to Game 6?! Maybe the Yankees *do* suck after all -- takes a lot of money to counteract that! ;-)

I would love to see it. If you truly believe that the what is all that has kept you from homelessness, why should anyone take you seriously about anything?
Meanwhile, I think even the so-called bulls on this site predicted a relatively soft decline -- not rise -- in townhouse prices with a price bottom in the not too distant future. They are bulls only by comparison to the free-fall gloom and doom of your pall and a few others, not in the true definitional sense. And most folks on this site will tell you that the decision to buy depends on your own circumstances -- where you are now and how long you plan to live in the next place, for example.

How often do you actually take your meds???
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 3:00 PM
Slopefarm, think you're LOST. This is the OT where you check your reasonableness prior to posting
Posted by: more4less at November 6, 2009 3:01 PM
>>OK stevie, I remember your story now. Yes, an ARM would be financial ruin.
Exactly.
That is why the WHAT is the unsung hero here. NO ONE has acknowledged this yet.
Posted by: stevieb at November 6, 2009 3:02 PM
yes, getting all that tax money back from the govt has led me to the brink.
Posted by: DeLepp at November 6, 2009 3:03 PM
who is making the schizo drug? what is profit potential?
should I buy the stock or just take the drug?
Posted by: Petebklyn at November 6, 2009 3:05 PM
stevie, most people know that ARMs are very risky. The What may be your unsung hero but not because you didn't get an ARm. no homo
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 3:06 PM
>>Meanwhile, I think even the so-called bulls on this site predicted a relatively soft decline
SOFT???? ROTFLMFAO! You call 25-35% decline in prices soft (bed stuy, crown heights, forte greene, willimasburg, etc)? That would have wiped out all of one's equity and then some.
Posted by: stevieb at November 6, 2009 3:07 PM
>>most people know that ARMs are very risky
oh yeah? then why did so many of them get it anyways?
Posted by: stevieb at November 6, 2009 3:09 PM
VNDA, Pete. If you take the drug you probably won't buy the stock. it's already approved. The company has a $280MM market cap and will receive $450MM in payments from Novartis over the next year or two. It has fewer side effects than existing drugs but more importantly, they will be out with an injection form in about a year.
Injections assure for 30 days that schizos like yourself remain medicated and not post on the OT.
This is a risky investment nonetheless and really only worth the money you might lose if you contemplate the Vegas trip with the other PLUSAs.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 3:10 PM
There you go again...."Most" doesn't mean "all." Yes, "many" got them but not "most."
And you're a writer??????????????
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 3:11 PM
stevieb, i think the majority of arms credated centered on CA, AZ and FL. Their minds are fried by the sun.
Posted by: DeLepp at November 6, 2009 3:12 PM
I really wanted to make a dirty innuendo joke using "Soft Decline" but couldn't think of one... I'm disappointed in myself.
Posted by: tybur6 at November 6, 2009 3:13 PM
Pete...doing more research on this over the weekend....will have a full conclusion by Monday.
The stosk went up to $16 on speculation that Novartis was going to buy them and has sold off because they aren't. They would like to but the VNDA management has written some pretty tight contracts re: the royalties and any ownership.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 3:14 PM
I don't like injections. Snorting is ok though.
And if I couldn't post on OT the whole economy would need a need TARP.

>>VNDA, Pete.
DIBS,
I dont like VNDA. I would short it if it went back up to $14-$15. The $450mil additional payment from Novartis is dependent on very steep sales milestones. I am skeptical that they will be able to reach them given the competitive nature of the schizno market. Also, this mgmt is a bad operator and I fear that they will squander the cash away in expensive acquisitions and clinical trials.
I like TRGT much better. They have a depression drug that is way off the chart in terms of efficacy and their safety profile is good as well.
btw, AIG is down 10% in your face. so much for their book value being $39/share.

I celebrated last night, CGar. Philly partner taking me out to dinner tonight at our new fancy pants, right wing republican club.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 3:35 PM
">>most people know that ARMs are very risky

Cuz they were told by their mortgage broker, their bank, and Alan Greenspan that house prices would only go up, so that in 7 yrs when the ARM resets they would just refi it into another mortgage.
Nothing goes up forever. Note even gold.

Isn't "Whom" inferred, Biff?
Posted by: CarrollGardened at November 6, 2009 3:43 PM
Nice! Sorry I missed that!
Reunion was great in that my old friends were LOVELY! The event was somewhat lackluster, but I got to see my favorite math teacher. And the girls and I left early, and came back to my apt. and stayed up late, just loving being together again! I don't think we wanted the evening to end.
Posted by: cobblehiller at November 6, 2009 3:43 PM
stevie, the first $200MM will be received 30 days after the agreement is signed...there are no milestones for that. The sgreement is still subject to hart-Scott-Rodino review but will be signed in the next 30-60 days. So you are wrong on that.
I never recommended AIG so not sure why that is "in my face."
Journalists have a strange way with the facts.

Stevie -- after a run-up of more than 200-300% since the early 90s, I would think ti fair to say the townhouse declines in prime brownstoner areas were "relatively soft" (pay attention to those adjectives).
Were you really set to buy at peak with no inclination that prices were high due exclusively to advice you got here and only the what convinced you not to? But for the what, you would own, with a mortgage you couldn't afford, and be foreclosed and on the street with no income to rent? Is that really how your life played out in fact? Because that is the implication of your puffery.
Meanwhile, Biff, I think your 76.4% proof is a little weak.
Sorry, m4l, I promise I will take my logic and go home now.

Bxgirl, when I first started reading your 4:59 I was thinking, "Damn, what a sucky life she's lead if she's never had multiples...poor woman!" Then I continued reading and realized you were responding to what Cobble said. Ha!

"ENY, have a look at his website and tell me he isn't gay!!!!"
Oh, I BELIEVE you, Dave. He's DEFINITELY gay! The Web site material only confirms it, but on his football play definitely put him on the "suspect" list (no offense).

>>Stevie -- after a run-up of more than 200-300% since the early 90s, I would think ti fair to say the townhouse declines in prime brownstoner areas were "relatively soft" (pay attention to those adjectives).
35% decline is "relatively soft" if you got in early and had your 200-300% gain. 35% is devastating for someone buying a brownstone in brooklyn for the first time and putting most of his/her savings into a down payment only to see their equity completely wiped out and their mortgage go upside down.

Yes, Snappy, it's a small but growing arm of the 12 step family of programs. The obvious issues are co-dependency, and easy things like not keeping smack, coke, crack in the house. LOL!

ENY...the first time I ever noticed him on the field, not being a big Giants fan, when he took his helmet off, my GAYDAR went off the chart. So I went looking for his Giants pics and found his website.
I showed it to a straight friend who's a big Giants fan and his comment was "That's just wrong, very sad!"
Seems he's taken off all his Giants pics though. i wonder why????
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 5:13 PM
Damn. You mean I gotta get rid of my stash as well? What the hell am I supposed to put in the cookie jar now, Cobble?
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 5:13 PM
>>stevie, the first $200MM will be received 30 days after the agreement is signed...there are no milestones for that. The sgreement is still subject to hart-Scott-Rodino review but will be signed in the next 30-60 days. So you are wrong on that.
The next $265mil are contingent payments and are contingent on hitting certain sales milestones, which I think will be very hard for VNDA to achieve because of the competitive landscape of the schizno market.
Posted by: stevieb at November 6, 2009 5:15 PM
Yes snappy- my posts are like a slowly opening flower. Or maybe deflowered. Or maybe I mean....I need a drink. Make that multiples.

"Gary Fencik (Chicago Bears) lost his superbowl ring to a trick he had over."
At least he waS a good player! I guess I have to take back what I said gay football players. Gary Fencik was an All-Pro. Will Demps apparently just sucks irregardless of his sexuality.

more production milestones than sales milestones.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 5:20 PM
"here's like twice the size of everyone."
That's a double-edged sword for a running back, DH. Jacobs is so big, all 11 guys on the defense can see him all over the field. If you notice, the really big RBs don't last long. Guys like Emmitt Smith and Thomlinson are often more effective because it's hard to see them behind the big offensive linemen, and they can get going before anyone gets a good hold on them.
Posted by: East New York at November 6, 2009 5:21 PM
That was hilarious Snappy! Good g*d, I hope no narc's come in reading this halfway through! Can you imagine!!
Headline: CobbleSnaps Productions was shuttered as founders are jailed in Crack/SMack/Coke bust!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 5:22 PM
"Seems he's taken off all his Giants pics though. i wonder why????"
Because the Giants dismissed him with extreme prejudice once they realized he sucks as a football player, and he's trying to live that down. When he first signed, there was a lot of fanfare.
Posted by: East New York at November 6, 2009 5:23 PM
Cobble, maybe we can make bail with the Beefcake calendar money and be out in time for the Holiday Bash!

"The PLUSA Beefcake Edition. Amzi will be forced to pose for at least 7/12 months. My guess is that Dave will buy many, many calendars. We'll be rich!"
I hope I can do the photography. I'll do the males for twice what I'd charge for the female version.

>>more production milestones than sales milestones.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 5:20 PM
You may want to look some more into this. these are really sales milestones and not commercial and development milestones. The company is also not disclosing the tiers of the sales milestones they need to achieve to get those payments. Do you know what they are?
Posted by: stevieb at November 6, 2009 5:28 PM

I'm thinking no shirt and and speedos...gotta make the $50 per calendar price tag worth it!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 5:31 PM
Yes, Denton, as PLUSA photographer, we'll be having you take the photos. But I don't wanna hear anything about union prices or working conditions. You get a bottle of water and $5 per photo...THAT'S IT!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 5:32 PM
Speedos — BLECH!!
Posted by: cobblehiller at November 6, 2009 5:33 PM
no but those things are rarely disclosed
they certainly won't be disclosed before they get through Hart Scott Rodino and get the licensing agreement actually finalized.
And yes, most running backs are small
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 5:34 PM
I'll only do a perp walk if they:
1. Allow me to put my jacket over my head so no one sees my shamed face.
2. Guide me while doing the perp walk so I don't run into any pillars face first (Don't wanna wind up on the news AND America's Funniest Home Videos or World's Dumbest Criminals)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 5:35 PM
Make it a bottle of wine and $5 for the men and it's a deal. Then I'll pay the women back the $5 to do the woman calendar.
Posted by: denton at November 6, 2009 5:35 PM
Ahhhhh, no wonder I like Will demps....his mother is Korean!!!! I though there was a little Asian in him. Kinda like me now that I think of it.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 6, 2009 5:36 PM
Ok...skip the speedos...we'll just give him a wash cloth to hide his naughty bits. Depending on the size of the wash cloth, we may be able to raise the price to $75 per calendar!
(my word, I hope Amzi isn't reading this...he may kill us!)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 5:36 PM

-----------
I think when these sales milestones are disclosed, the market will realize that they are harder to achieve than previously thought. Also, I think the company will squander the $200mil of cash they receive from Novartis.
Posted by: stevieb at November 6, 2009 5:39 PM
denton- you are going to have to pass a urine test first, though.
But snappy- I bought a new video camera so I could film this! But if denton doesn't pass his drug test, can you take him on as a client too?

Posted by: bxgrl at November 6, 2009 5:43 PM
stevie...do you know what their current burn rate is, the amount of cash on the balance sheet and the size of the tax loss carryforwards???
Look at those numbers before making an analytical numbers based judgement on "squandering" the $200MM

Posted by: CarrollGardened at November 6, 2009 6:00 PM
dibs, yes i do.
The company has 20mil of cash and equivalents at the end of Q3 of 2009. THe $200mil cash pmt from novartis should be received in Q4:09.
However, VNDA is responsible for completing 2 post-approval clinical studies for fanapt. They also need an additional maintenance study to gain approval in the EU. Moreover, I think sales will disappoint in the US and reach only $100mil in peak sales.

An up-do is quite elegant. May not be appropriate if you are going for the waifish, I didn't do it look. I don't know how we can possibly do that with snappy's hair. What if its humid in prison?
Posted by: bxgrl at November 6, 2009 6:13 PM
Bxgirl, how about we make them wear these:
http://tinyurl.com/3yj5xg
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 6:14 PM
Don't worry, cobble. We'll need the hair gel and concealer vats for that too. Who's up for waxing them? Full body, bikini? Suggestions?

Clear heels for the boys! With fish in them! (so our wee ones can have a treat after the video shoot)

We can make Randi do the waxing and other general manscaping!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at November 6, 2009 6:17 PM

Absolutely! We should try to get assigned to Martha's prison, I'm sure she upgraded the food quality there!
