New Sneaker Boutique on Tompkins

There's a new "premium sneaker boutique" coming to Bed Stuy. The Bed Stuy Blog spotted the new shop called Sole Survivor getting ready to launch at 378 Tompkins Avenue between Putnam and Jefferson. We wonder how it will stack up against Fort Greene's recently opened Pedigree Sneaker Gallery?

I wish any business in my old hood good luck, although I have to say that spending a fortune on sneakers is a ridiculous waste of money, especially for people in the area. Put the money in a money market account, save it for something truly worth buying, donate to a worthy cause, save it for a down payment, but sneakers????
That said, it's a great name.

This place will probably give Pedigree Sneaker Gallery a run for its money.

kinda sorta agree with you montrose...
but a lot of the people who patronize these stores are actual sneaker collectors, so it's sort of an investment. there's much worse things one could be doing with their money definitely.

kids fucking love sneakers.
actually kids love expensive shit they shouldnt be buying. Have you listened to the radio lately? Theres a rapper named Gucci Mane and one of the most popular songs is called "throw it in the bag". Its about buying alot of stuff and fucking the middle aged manager.

I've heard of Gucci Mane. I wondered how he gets away with using that name. Where did all these crap rappers come from anyway? Ugh.

Ok, rob, I've seen the photos of the music impressarios like Damon Dash, who had a wall o' sneakers, all gleaming white on the wall, hundreds of them. I'm still trying to decide if collecting overpriced identical footwear is sillier or smarter than Lladro and Hummel figurines. It's a tossup.

Imagine throwing all those big expensive sneakers at a wall full of Hummels! Now that would be "shopping therapy"!

Gucci Mane???? Oh, don't let me get started!!!

Santa, one of the best posts ever.

Gucci Mane is from Atlanta.
its a hot spot for mediocrity

Brenda, the BEST of both worlds!

A lot of the sneaker collectors are in Japan.

Wearing sneakers puts me into a "I'm 10 years old again" moment - I have colleagues who wear jeans and sneakers to work. Kinda jealous.

Sneakers!?
Aw shucks. I was hoping for another storefront church or beauty parlor.
We need more of those.

If it has to announce it's a "premium" sneaker boutique, does that mean it isn't one?

I admit I wear sneakers most of the time, but dont go past typical all black Adidas shelltoes (been wearing them since I was 15).
I have friends my age (@40) who collect sneakers, vinyl toys, and tshirts, I dont get it. Are they trying to buy their youth back?

I don't collect sneakers or T-shirts but I'm glad to see new stores on Tompkins Ave, it's the next next next ......... up & coming area.

I walk by the Fort Greene sneaker store at least once a day. Unfortunately I've never seen any customers in there.
@Montrose Damon's collection didn't do much for him. He's broke.

I'm not judging Rob, I just dont get it. spending 200+ on sneakers you aren't going to wear?
That said, I dont wish bad on any new business, good luck to em, I'll send my friends their way when they are back in town..

eh, I'd be broke too, if, as he said in the article I read regarding the sneakers, that he would wear them only a couple of times, and then throw them out because they no longer looked brand new. What an idiot, and a great role model for our kids. What's really important? Not an education, a good job, nice home, nooooo. Brand new white sneakers, 365 days a year. Wonder how that's working for him now.

"New sneaker mentality" is people trying to show they're not poor.

Yep.

Well at the end of the day, I think this is great for the neighborhood! We are seeing some parts of Brooklyn being developed, and with all of these new condo/rental developments, and I think we need more people willing to invest into neighborhoods, with new businesses, and so forth! There are a lot of closed gates on Tompkins Avenue, and the fact that someone is doing something positive for the area I think is a blessing! And besides, most of the Sneaker Boutiques are in the city, so its nice to have some of what u usually see in Manhattan, come here in our neighborhood in Brooklyn! All I can say is thanks for choosing Bed-Stuy!! Yeah!!!
