Gifted Is Live!

The doors opened over an hour ago and the place is hopping! If you happen to be on the isle of Manhattan this weekend, come on by the old Tower Records space on East 4th and Lafayette Street for the opening weekend of the Gifted Holiday Market. We're open tonight and tomorrow until 8 p.m. and on Sunday til 7 p.m. And then all of December except for Mondays and Tuesdays.

I;m sick of the weekly promotion of the open air markets and now Gifted o the brownstoner.

Tough luck, bk8. what do you think pays the bills around here since the great advertising implosion?

Hi Mr. B,
I will definitely check out Gifted. Thanks for letting us know about it. Please don't mind bk8! I am thankful for bstoner and the information on here.

Brownstoner,
Love your direct approach. Some individuals just take your hard work for granted and think that you are doing this just to fill in the time. Nice job and I, for one, appreciate all your hard work and great production.

oh id MUCH rather see posts and ads for this kind of thing than vapid american apparel "models" flashing on my screenname. keep up the good work!

Mr. B
I appreciate your work and love Brownstoner. I wouldn't mind seeing banners and pop-ups but self promotion posts of a specific store or the markets (on ongoing basis), take away from the quality of the Brownstoner. Personally, I think that soft advertising compromise the long terms quality/value of your amazing venture.
I wish you a successful holiday season, and a quick recovery of the RE market.

im not sure bk8 understands the concept of a blog. this isnt cnn.com or xtube for that matter. the markets are tied to his brand which is basically the blog itself right? correct me if im totally off base on this. it's been known to happen

Rob,
You hit the nail on the head.

*rob* totally off base? Never! ROFL.
I totally agree with *rob* and Junkman, Mr. B. Ignore the naysayers.

Anyway, back to Gifted. I happened by it yesterday and couldn't get out fast enough. Too crowded to see much, and what little I did see was disappointing. My focus for holiday buying is the kids in my family (adults don't exchange gifts) and I was drawn to a sign for toys. Couldn't find a single item for kids (beyond t-shirts), and the adult items were, frankly, too much of the same stuff at the FG flea and too expensive. Seriously -- $30 for wispy silver earrings that are half that at the W. Broadway vendors, $8 for an 8 oz. jar of salsa, $20 for a tiny kid t-shirt? No thanks. These folks need to heed the data that has been reported this morning regarding weekend holiday shopping: compared to last year, more shoppers are out this year, but they are spending LESS per capita.

I enjoyed the holiday market last year, and bought a number of little doodads. I expect to do the same this year. I liked the regular winter market in Dumbo too, and look forward to visiting there.
I prefer shopping for something small and exquisite in a place like Gifted rather than spend my dwindling cash at Target or Gap for something huge, trendy, overpriced and ultimately valueless.
