Streetlevel: Sports Bar for Fulton

The wide storefront at 895 Fulton Street has been getting a makeover for a while now and now we know the reason: Clinton Hill is getting its own sports bar. Excited? GMAP

Looks like its right next to Bar Olivino. While I would be stoked to have a sports bar in the neighborhood, it would be a shame if it came at the expense of the B.O.

I guess it depends on how cheesy it is. In general, I think the area could use a good sports bar, but a lot of new sports bars feel pretty shiny and sterile, and at this stage in Fulton's transition, it needs a winner. The facade is pretty glassy. Makes me nervous. Then again, if they have really good wings...

Oh great, another Sports Bar. Why not just move the entire Upper East Side down to Brooklyn? If it's anything like Mullane's, watch out . . .

mullanes isnt as bad as i initially thought, but fits into general sterile sports bar category. hopefully this place has some character but also a good place to grab a selection of beers and watch the game. i live around the corner and theres nothing for a mile to catch the yankees.

operating storefront is always welcomed. this area of ft greene / clinton hill is relatively skinny (vs. other BK gentrified hoods) on bars, restaurants, etc so any addition is good news. hey, if this joint is no good, it wont survive.

Zinka, it's too late. the douche are already here. they've just been hanging out at other hoods' sports bar.

GoGo, good point.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but when I want to watch a game in a bar I don't go to the nearest self-designated "sports bar." I go someplace that is showing the game and where I can likely get a seat - and that's usually just my local. Any bar with a TV - a big one - can be a sports bar for the night.

My local shows movies at other times.

Wasder, I had the same initial reaction, but then quickly concluded that Olivino has such the opposite vibe to a sports bar that hopefully the two won't compete. If anything it may draw more people to the block who then notice Olivino. Sometimes you want aged gouda and sometimes you want nachos, ya know? (The aged gouda @ B.O. is really amazing BTW)

I'm very happy to see another neighborhood bar open up in this area and hoping that a rising tide lifts all glasses.

I visited the Sports Bar last week, and sent the owner the link to this thread. I must say, from what ive seen so far, this bar will be state of the art and i am looking forward to its opening on Fulton St.
