Streetlevel: Pilar

Pilar, with the tag line "Miami comes to Brooklyn," opened recently in at 393 Classon Avenue, offering Cuban fare to the residents of Clinton Hill (think empanadas, croquetas, bocaditos, cuban sandwiches). When it opened in early September, The Local gave it a positive review, and residents seem to welcome the new flavor to the neighborhood—the eatery stands apart from more restaurant-heavy stretches of Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy such as Dekalb, Fulton, or Lafayette, which gives it a more secluded feel. I ordered in lunch for my office from here the other day and it was really good. A very welcome addition to the culinary options around here and they deliver.

i agree. they are tasty and convenient, and there are no other similar options around this immediate area, but i have to say, i think they're a little expensive for the amount of food you get. i paid $12 for a dinner that was tiny, to go, and mostly white rice- i had to supplement with some cereal from my cabinet. i wish it were just slightly cheaper.

mmmm... fresh and yummy and the owner is super sweet! They cook to order and they don't let food sit around, they don't even have a freezer. Only issue is that they close a bit early for us, at 9pm.

Such a GREAT addition to the neighborhood. The food is delicious. The grilled cheese and plantain sandwich is killer, the pernil has tons of flavor, the rice & beans perfect, and the guava pie is an unexpected treat. Hmmm, I think I'm going to get dinner there tonight....
