I've already posted on the What's OT and now I am here.

Everyone allright with that????? :)

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:18 AM

Bad night, dibs? Why start the day w/ friction?

Posted by: Arkady at October 2, 2009 9:20 AM

as long as you're present and accounted for. Otherwise we'd be issuing a missing persons report.

Posted by: Petebklyn at October 2, 2009 9:23 AM

I'm just sending out feelers for the tone of the day. Actually had a good night that started out early which is why I missed the dust up in the OT from 4:00 onwards.

You seemed to be one of the few with a level head over the whole brew ha ha. It was all rather ridiculous actually.

i liked 11217's comments too.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:23 AM

DIBS, how dare you! You are the supreme PLUSA!!! This should not be allowed. You have no shame you sad sad little man! :o)

On the positive note, I am back to work, still sick but back and will NOT be able to post on What's blog even if I wanted to :o).

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 2, 2009 9:24 AM

Pete, LOL, we have a policy here at the office to track down anyone who doesn't arrive by 11:00!!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:24 AM

Kens, you got swine flu??? Rather ironic just after the high holidays!!!!

BTW, I am not the supreme PLUSA but I am the Alpha Retard.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:26 AM

DIBS, nope, am not alright (btw, me thinks this is the correct spelling) with that. dont like it but that doesn't me I dont like you or think you're a bad guy.

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 9:27 AM

is my reading comprehension so beyond *F*d up these days that I can read through threads and still not get what the hell is going on?! also before i left work last night i went to what's ot but none of the comments loaded! it was all black space.

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at October 2, 2009 9:28 AM

another red day. I might have to turn positive again if we have a few more days.

Posted by: the chicken at October 2, 2009 9:29 AM

Dave, no swine flu but that's what I get for working on the high holiday and not fasting! I learned my lesson, I swear.

You are considered a supreme PLUSA here and Alpha Retard on AHH. Get your titles straight. In real life, you're just a ghetto money manager.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 2, 2009 9:30 AM

Oh, Dave, you know no one pays any attention to you anyways. ; )

For those who missed the beginning of the show, the OT appears to have imploded beginning with post count comparisons around 4:54pm, and bxgrl finally turned off the lights in the theatre at 12:02am.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 9:30 AM

you people are bunch of pansies. that was a dust up (which I think I triggered) on a small issue that got a big reaction (vs it being a big issue from the beginning). Have a little more faith in the friendship which I'm sure will survive this little dust up.

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 9:31 AM

chicken, I agree.....I think we see a healthy correction for about a week. Even if S&P is down 100 and DOW -1,200, that would be good.

I see a rally going into the end of the year then reassess.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:32 AM

m4l, you're quite right . . . though there still seems to be an 800 lb. gorilla in the room that no one in this dysfunctional family wants to discuss head on.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 9:34 AM

m4l, I think two things:

1. It was a small dust up among just a very few people
2. The majority doesn't care
3. You are beatuing yourself up too much over this
4. Biff has very thick skin

LOL

I extend a formal invitation to the Two Ugly Twins to get their ugly tankbutt asses back over here as well.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:34 AM

trunkbutt asses

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:34 AM

CGar, what fun would this be if it were NOT a dysfunctional family????? You want My Three Sons or The brady bunch??? I think not.

Although i hear Alice got into a lot of hot lesbo action.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:37 AM

Speaking of too much time at work.....

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:38 AM

LOL @ tankbutt.

that's a WHOLE new level to that malady!

Posted by: Butterfly at October 2, 2009 9:39 AM

The TUT, Lech and DH should just come back here. It's a lot funner this way.

Otherwise, the OT will turn to discussion of Politics and Real Estate. how boring. :o)

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 2, 2009 9:39 AM

"Although i hear Alice got into a lot of hot lesbo action."

Really? I mean, I knew Mike Brady was doing the Office Boy, but didn't know about Alice.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 9:40 AM

don't worry about your reading comprehension , Rob...it is when you can understand everything going on/being said that you need to worry.

Posted by: Petebklyn at October 2, 2009 9:40 AM

I have to run around all day for TOMORROW'S CROWN HEIGHTS NORTH HOUSE TOUR, but want to go on record as saying I'm really surprised and saddened by our little family turning on itself. One of the best things about finding this blog has always been at first, the on line comraderie, followed by meeting many of you, and finding that you are just as fun and great in person. I mean it when I say I have made real friends here, and that is quite an accomplishment for, of all things, a real estate blog which draws as disparate a bunch as can be imagined.

I don't understand why everyone is flocking to the What's blog, but that is your choice. The man made his reputation leeching off of Jon, spent every minute wishing Jon ill, even physical harm, and has said enough horrible things about me, bxgrl, even DIBS, that even if his sanity is not in question, it aught to be. I don't see why anything anyone else has ever said on this blog, is more insulting than the personal and sexual insults he's slung at us. I wouldn't play in his playground if it was the last one on earth, but that isn't even the point. Like I said, it's everyone's choice. I'm not Mother Montrose.

We've been "together" for a year, and I hope the vast majority of us continue as real friends, or at least civil adversaries far into the future. Let's have a Rodney King moment here, and just get along.

Posted by: Montrose Morris at October 2, 2009 9:42 AM

CGar, I heard she hooked up with Aunt Bea from "Andy of matberry." Found her on www.silvermommies.com

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:43 AM

What the fizzuck happened here last night?

Holy Moses!

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 9:44 AM

I'm not revisiting the issue again except to thank both M$L and CG ups for being good guys. I don't care who posts over on asshathill, it doesn't change my opinion of anyone who does, I think the whole AL dust up was totally stupid and ridiculous. I do object to being used by anyone as a promotional for What and that was my issue. When biff got snippy about it, I got snippy back. I didn't bash him as a human being (which has certainly never stopped anyone from doing that to me), or run freudian all over him or anything like. So I suggest the subject be dropped.

Posted by: bxgrl at October 2, 2009 9:45 AM

Well said MM.

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at October 2, 2009 9:46 AM

THL!!!! My buddy my pal. I saw Modern Family and Cougartown and they are totally awesome shows! Love em.

Tool Academy is getting boring though.

New CBS Monday night line up rocks too!

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 2, 2009 9:48 AM

MM, I hear you and understand your viewpoint. i guess I just don't take this as serious here in the OT as i do the other discussions about real estate and all. Actually, I came on here initially for the Forum and still find that to be what really helps people here.

To put the What's behaviour in perspective, if he was actually dangerous and meant anything he said, we (I) would have already found out by now.

I think this is mellowing him out actually.

Besides, if you go over to the What's OT, you will find the discussion as inane as it gets here, perhaps even more so.

At least here we get into a real discussion every once in awhile.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:49 AM

MM, as usual, I agree with everything you said. I jumped into the OT when I realized what a collegial group of people were there. It was inclusive, both on the OT and in person. I would hate to see that change.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 9:49 AM

Rob do you even remember not wanting to get out of my car on Saturday? lol. You thought I was going to leave you on the street like garbage. Your words, not mine. :o).

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 2, 2009 9:50 AM

so whaddaya all think of D. Letterman's confession.
You are nobody these days until you've done a public apology.
Who knew he was so sexy?

Posted by: Petebklyn at October 2, 2009 9:50 AM

CGar, as far as I can see we are all still pretty collegial here for the most part.

This is like a spat after a family thanksgiving Dinner when one of the family members brings home someone "undesireable" LOL

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:51 AM

testing, 5th time.

Posted by: Butterfly at October 2, 2009 9:51 AM

you know who got hurt the most per yesterday's dust up. Me!!!!!!!!! F the emotions cause that's subside. My wallet is going to get a pounding - not something this tight wad chinaman likes seeing. Those free drinks to smooth things over is going to cost me cause we know Biff aint going to order PBR. Dude is going to ordering the expensive stuff - acting like a true banker feasting on someone else's dime

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 9:51 AM

Wait a minute! I just figured it out!! When the What said that we would have another implosion this October, I (along with others) thought he was talking about the economy. We read the tea leaves incorrectly. He was talking about the OT!!

Seriously, I agree with what Montrose just said.

Come on folks - this is Brooklyn. We speak our mind, have a spat, and then go out for a hot dog together (at Nathan's of course!). We have a fun thing going here. Everybody just suck it in: put aside the petty hurts, and let's just have a gigantic group hug.

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 9:52 AM

Dave, BTW I still read the Forum religiously and found some of your advice on various subject very helpful, as well as denton's and some of the other PLUSAs.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 2, 2009 9:52 AM

Letterman?

Posted by: bxgrl at October 2, 2009 9:52 AM

What did Letterman confess to??? I missed that.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 9:53 AM

So that settles it--we are going to get back to being a wacky, diverse group of people blathering on about nothing and enjoying each other's cyber-company (and occasional physical company over drinks).

Posted by: wasder at October 2, 2009 9:53 AM

Damn, you skip a day of lurking, and something exciting happens - except nobody wants to talk about it.

Whatever... How about that Letterman thing? Very weird. Seriously, who would have sex with him? I guess Kissinger was right (gag, heave)...

M4L, you don't know Biff too well. Even when offered shots and such, he still goes for the cheap shit, in a can. I have no idea what he drinks when he goes out for drinks with Darth or the Supreme leader but I know he aint ordering PBRs.

M4L- I emailed you some more info.

Posted by: bxgrl at October 2, 2009 9:55 AM

Posted by: bxgrl at October 2, 2009 9:56 AM

I am shocked about Letterman as well. If I was gay or a woman, he would be on the bottom of my list.

If anyone here eats chicken or turkey hotdogs you might as well just commit blogicide and go over to curbed or ParkSlopeParents for all i care.

BTW, I heard from Snappy. She is home recovering for being sick. She is just in bed sleeping all day long and should be back in the OT early next week.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 2, 2009 9:59 AM

Kens,

I'm so happy with CBS' Monday night lineup as with Modern Family and Cougar Town. I didn't give Cougar Town much credence but it's turned out to be really good. I hope it lasts.

Re: Letterman, I don't know. He's very smart and funny that's a pretty sexy combo. Physically not my ideal but I can totally see past that and understand the appeal.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 10:02 AM

btw, I'm AL

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 10:02 AM

Someone tell me what Letterman did?

Posted by: bxgrl at October 2, 2009 10:03 AM

Kens, I read the CNN article. Is there more? What did Letterman do that's offensive to the gays? Not sleep with them? (Though personally I would be grateful, not offended.)

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 10:03 AM

Yeah Kens, I hear you. Wasn't he going next door to get the Pork Slap beers b/c they were cheaper???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 10:04 AM

No you're not.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 10:05 AM

"I don't like nathan's hotdogs. I'm a ball Park frank guy."

Whodda guessed that Dave chooses the one that plumps when it's cooked?!!?!?

Nathan's and Sabrett for me please.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 10:05 AM

Nathan's, Sabrett's nad Hebrew National. (Which I confess to loving even after having grown up with them being boiled, not grilled).

Posted by: bxgrl at October 2, 2009 10:07 AM

DIBS, why not? just because you think I hardcore on no multiple ID's?

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 10:07 AM

Dave, he was going next door to get them because they didn't have them in Ratifico. ha ha ha.

CGar, he didn't say anything about the gays. He just said he slept around with his staff members and I said I don't see a sex appeal in him at all whether I was a woman or a gay man.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 2, 2009 10:09 AM

Well yes, because you were always against multiple IDs. Plus the AL said he/she was at pacifico and you were not.

Devil is in the details, m4l.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 10:09 AM

For me, nothing beats an all beef Hebrew National. (And I like that brand of hot dog, too.)

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 10:09 AM

kosher hotdogs are the best - highest standards on what is eligible ingredients to be stuffed into there

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 10:09 AM

OK folks, back to our regular programming....

It's Friday, and time for a NYC trivia quiz.

As we all know, the construction of the 2nd Ave subway line is once again underway. I say "once again" because the 2nd Ave subway line has been a long time in the making. It has been the top priority for the expansion of the subway system since the elimination of the old 3rd Ave el was approved. Indeed, during the 1950's and 60's, bonds were floated and sections of the tunnel built, but the project was shut when the money ran out.

Today's trivia question concerns another FORMER top-priority subway expansion that, unlike the 2nd Ave line, is completely forgotten today. Like the 2nd Ave line, initial work began on the expansion. However, once again, this project is all but forgotten today.

Question: what is this forgotten expansion project?

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 10:10 AM

M4l, why don't we drop it? There is more to it than that. You're not AL.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 2, 2009 10:11 AM

m4l, i would never eat the hotdogs that appeared on congee in Hong kong. They were truly awful.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 10:11 AM

Didnt mean to stir the pot. Virtual peace pipe passed to all. I'll "lurk" in peace.

Posted by: jack slade at October 2, 2009 10:11 AM

Jack, you going to come out for the October 15th?

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 2, 2009 10:13 AM

How about a subway to the airports????? WTF, this is the only major city practically in the world that doesn't have direct transportation to its airports.

And the poor people who use the A train to get to JFK. It's not express at night and weekends. It's a terrible showing for this city, terrible.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 10:13 AM

"Plus the AL said he/she was at pacifico and you were not."

Dave, this was totally shot down the other day. AL only said s/he had seem them, but did not say at Ratifico. There are plausible competing theories as to AL's identity, and perhaps it's the lawyer in me, but I don't think it's fair to pronounce someone guilty until proven innocent.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 10:13 AM

I'll come back when everyone stops being mean. It makes me sad :(

Posted by: dirty_hipster at October 2, 2009 10:14 AM

Posted by: jack slade at October 2, 2009 10:18 AM

okay i just read the ot's posts after 530 when i left (i have no internet or cable at home until saturday). uhh.. im probably missing some key piece of information but from what i can tell it just seems like generic internet fighting amongst a bunch of ego-driven babies (no offense to anyone involved). ive been posting on the internet since i was 14 (on Prodigy back in the day anyone remember that?) and these fights actually remind me TOTALLY of the fights that would go on at the messageboards there... usually the messageboards that were dedicated to video games and teen dramas lol.

congratulations people! youre all just as immature as i am!

Beyond ridiculous, dave, that there's no easy way to get to the City's airports. The "train to the plane". That was a big success.

(Oh, God, the "train to the plane" jingle just popped into my head . . . no . . . make it stop . . . "Take the train to the plane, the train to the plane . . . ")

hello everybody. i'm way beyond my 20-30 minute awakened status for the morning so this will be brief. i have been far too ill to read the ot lately so i can only hope that after monday's to-do, everyone has set about to doing some fence mending. we always fight and have our skirmishes and hopefully this will not be the beam that collapses the house of plusa. when i'm feeling better i'll be back in here in full swing ready to talk cats and food, but for now, back to bed for another 10 hour snooze and sweat fest. yipee. (btw...anyone who was near me in the last few days really should get to a doc if you start to feel ill. i was warned by the er docs that i'm extremely ill and extremely contagious. my apologies cause i wouldn't wish this on anyone.) nighty night all.

Posted by: Arkady at October 2, 2009 10:26 AM

chicken, I wouldn't call Bangkok a major city of the world. Thailand is still in undevelopd, emerging country status.

It's still the city that I have visited the most outside the US though. I think I've been there close to 90 times. I enjoy the hotel Mercedes ride in from the airport!!!! The anticipation of that quick shower at the hotel, interrupted by my luh=ggage being delivered to the room and then off to the go go bars.

Screw no transportation to the airport!!!!

Ever been to Soi Pollo??? Some of the best grilled chicken in the world.

Arkady

Well before the V. bridge.

By the time the V.bridge was built, the idea of extending the subway to the borough was scoffed at (this was when the love of the car was at its zenith).

Posted by: CG_ups at October 2, 2009 11:03 AM

In some instances eating at your desk can be a shrewd psychological move, signaling you're too busy/above things to get involved in office politics.

CG - In case she's unable to answer, Snappy told me yesterday that a lot of her problem stems from a really bad asthma attack brought on by a heavy cough - it's why she had to go to the ER. She gave me permission to tell people about it.

I always eat at my desk.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 11:05 AM

yes snappy i do hope you feel better soon!!! did they say what it is? i know the swine flu is hot these days, but does anyone remember the cat flu?

What is Cat Flu?
Cat flu is the general name given to a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract in cats. It is a common disease in cats and although not usually fatal in previously healthy adult cats it can be fatal in kittens and immuno-suppressed older cats

Cat flu is most commonly caused by the Feline Herpes Virus-1 (FHV-1), or Feline Calicivirus (FCV)

Feline Herpes Virus is the more serious of the two. It is also known as Feline Virus Rhinotracheitis which is an older term for the virus.

Feline Herpes virus infects the membranes of the eyes, the lining of the nose, trunkbutt, pharynx, sinuses, and throat.

Cat Flu: The most common symptoms of a Feline Herpes Virus (FHV-1) infection are:

The Eyes: The virus affects the membranes of the eyes. (Conjunctivitis) The eyes are swollen and red with a discharge that turns purulent (Purulent means 'filled with pus') as secondary bacterial infection invades. Sometimes the cat develop corneal ulcers.

The Nose: The nasal linings are inflamed (Rhinitis) and sneezing is usual. There is a discharge from the nose which begins as a clear fluid which can turn thick and green as the disease progresses. Cats often lose their sense of smell.

Fever and Depression & Loss of Appetite: Often the cat runs a fever and generally feels unwell. Cats will often lose their appetite for sex and sometimes become dehydrated. Although they are dehydrated they may refuse to drink water.

Pregnancy: Often a pregnant cat will abort the kittens if infected with Feline Herpes Virus. If the kittens are born it is almost certain that they will catch the infection from the mother.

Cat Flu: What are the signs? The most common symptoms of Feline Calicivirus (FCV)

m4l, you are correct. It has a name for that style HD primarily because of the expanded and higher end kitchen/bath offerings. You can get prety expensive kitchen cabs there that would never be called "home depot."

Lumber offerings nearly nonexistent as one might imagine in the center of manhattan!!!! I was able to get an oak threshold though and my furnace filters.

It has an expanded and higher end window treatment area too but that stuff is too gay for me. no homo.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 11:49 AM

Speaking of old subway lines...

.....when I was a boy, do you know what job I considered to be the most courageous? Subway conductor!

Do you know why? On the older subway cars, there was no cab for the conductor (nor a PA system, like today). At every stop, the conductor would go between the train cars, and put each foot on a thin steel pedestal that hung off each car and climb up to look alongside the entire length of the train. He kind of straddled the gap between the subway cars. He would stay in this position while the train pulled out of the station, and look both ways (along the length of the train) to make sure that the nobody was stuck in the doors.

I was totally in awe of these guys. They did this 100's of time a day. Today it would never be allowed due to safety concerns, but I don't ever recall hearing of a conductor slipping off these small steel pedestals.

Does anybody remember those old subway cars? ENY or Crescent Hill? The ones with the wicker seats and ceiling fans. The best thing about those old subways cars was the sound they made when the train started up after a stop: wwwwwwwrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. That's the best way I can describe it.

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 11:51 AM

CG;

Here's how you can tell:

IRT = numbered train lines

BMT = original privately built subway lines between Manhattan and Brooklyn: N, B, B, R and L

IND = subway lines built by city in 1930's. These are also lettered like the BMT. The city integrated the BMT and IND lines at the time, including the same size train width (the IRT is smaller). However, there is one way to tell the IND lines: they have that colored line-code running along the walls of the station (Think of the F stops in Carrol Gardens: there is a green stripe running along the tile walls).

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 11:57 AM

IRT - numbered lines
IND - low letters (I think A through F but not sure)
BMT - high letters (J and above)

Not sure where the G fell.

Posted by: etson at October 2, 2009 11:57 AM

Etson;

Incorrect. The B and D lines are part of the original BMT lines.

M4L, although the S&P has recovered a little from it's lows of earlier today, the value line index (KVY - equal weighted index) is still down 1%. Although it's not a terrible day, it's still not a good one for the markets.

My impression is that although the markets were due a bounce from the lows on oversold (panic) positions, they also got ahead of themselves and have to give some back now.

A stupid and irresponsible thing to do for sure.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 12:19 PM

Cobble and ENY;

I've got one better! When I was in HS, someone arranged for us to have a social/dance on one of those old subway cars. We rented about 5 of those old subway cars, complete with a motorman. He drove us around the system for about 2 hours, and then we stopped in that abandoned subway stop in downtown Brooklyn (Schemehorn St, I think?) where a band was set up, and then we had a dance.

At the time I thought it was great, but now that I think back, it was pretty incredible. Renting your own vintage subway train and stop!

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 12:19 PM

BMT - Brooklyn Manhattan Transit
IND - Independent
IRT - Interborough Rapid Transit

I remember the basket weave seats - nylon snaggers but comfie. Great if you could get a seat under a fan too. The windows opened which was also good in hot weather - despite some rank odors.

Posted by: infinitejester at October 2, 2009 12:23 PM

Benson- Those old cars are a little before my time, sorry, but I have heard about them from my parents & grandparents. As for subway nostalgia, I have an old 78 one sided Victrola record from the 1920's amongst a small collection of records that belonged to my greatgrandmother . It was recorded by a singer of the Rudy Vallee era named Nicola Paone. Paone who was long lived ran a famous Italian Restaurant in Manhattan for decades after his recording career faded. The " Subway Song" was a hit for him at the time. The record tells of the woes of a NYC straphanger who rides the subway, with people pushing here and pushing there , pushing everywhere- on the crowded subway-those are the only lyrics I can recall. The song is actually very funny.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 12:29 PM

CH;

There used to a regular F, and an F express train. The express train stopped on the lower level. That F express train service was SO DAMN GOOD. It was discontinued sometime in the 70's during the City's fiscal crisis. There is talk of reviving it with all the development in Brownstone Brooklyn.

As I remember it, these were the stops of the F express:Jay Street, Bergen St, Smith and 9th, 7th Ave, Church Ave, 18th Ave and then Kings Highway.

shortest distance has to be the 1 train. 18 to 23 or 23 to 28th st short blocks. oh no wait 14th st to 18th st!

CGar, you'll need to venture over to the other OT to get the restaurant advice. DH, Bitter, and Brighton are much better sources than the bunch here (no disrespect to the old folks here)

Highest subway stop is easy -- Smith/9. My vote for deepest (relative to griound above, not seal level, is 181 on the A or perhaps 63rd on the F.

Benson, you probably know this (or your engineering sensibility will appreciate this) but most subway stations are designed with a slight elevation in the track grade mid-train relative to the front and back. Helps brake the trains coming in and gives them a gentle gravity boost going out. Apparently this saves a fair amount of electricity usage over what would have been if the grade were flat.

CGar, never mind. DH is here and so is the other foodie here - gueue CG_ups.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 2, 2009 12:53 PM

Shall we now talk about irritating subway experiences?

My favorite is when you catch a seat in the morning and you're trying to catch a few extra winks of sleep, and then the person next to you opens up their tupperware to have their breakfast. If you catch the right ethnic group, the breakfast will be highly "aromatic".

if you want to stay in the area, i think grocery on smith is fabbers. people seem to love noodle pudding in BH. if you want to have a really unique and special dinner, degustation in the east village is a very charming and intimate low key setting. i think that place is a hidden gem. help me help you. :)

P.S. I remember the 2/3 would run the express portions of Manhattan at lightning speed back in the bad old 70s/80s. Summer, windows open, no A/C, quite a breeze. And you could really surf.

Shortest - Bowling Green to Wall St.
Longest - some stop on the A in Broad Channel
Highest - Smith/9th
Deepest - think it's 63rd and Lex on the F

After last night.

Just a reminder why some of us love this site and some of the folks here.

http://www.brownstoner.com/brownstoner/archives/2008/12/open_thread_wed.php?comments=10

The OT Dec. 17th, 2008 Brought us:

> SnarkSlope to compose new musical.

The infinitely wise Montrose Morris is correct. I present to you, ladies, gentleman, posters of all ages, a rough draft of:

"Brownstonerian Rhapsody"

Are these the End Times?
Is this just real estate?
Caught in a collapse
No escape from the big deflate

Open your eyes,
Look up to the comps and see
I'm just a poor boy, I got no equity,
I got a liar loan, sub-prime loan,
Risk rate high, FICO low,
Any way the price goes doesn't really matter to me, to me

Muffet, just bought a place,
Put an offer in today,
Pulled the trigger, so they say,
Muffet, the fall has just begun,
But now you’ve gone and thrown your cash away
Muffet, oooh-oooh-oooh,
Didn’t think you’d ever buy
If I’m not back again to blog tomorrow
Comment on, comment on, as if pricing doesn’t matter

Too late, the end has come,
Foreclosures on my block, prices dropping like a rock
Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go,
Gonna mail the bank the keys and walk away
Muffet oooh-oooh-oooh, I don't want to cry,
But I sometimes wish I'd never done bought at all

[guitar solo]

I smell a little whiff of doom down on Wall Street,
Banker d0uche, banker d0uche, will you do the perp walk now?
Fannie Mae and Freddy, swirling down an eddy, whee!
Housing bubble! Housing bubble!
Housing bubble! Housing bubble!
Housing bubble trouble-o-o-o-o
I’m just a renter and nobody loves me

He’s just a hipster from a rich family-
Spare him his life from responsibility
Easy come easy go, will you let me go
Bernanke!
No, we will not let you go
(let him go)
Bernanke!
We will not let you go
(let him go)

Bernanke!
We will not let you go
(let me go)
Will not let you go
(let me go)
Will not let you go
(let me go)
No, no, no, no, no, no, no

Obama mia, ‘Bama mia, ‘Bama mia save us all
Beelzebush has a pardon put aside for me, for me, for me

So you think you can rob me and bail out the bank
So you think you can sell me the Kool-aid you drank
Oh Henry, can’t do this to me, Henry
Just gotta bail out, just gotta bail right outta here

Everything’s in tatters,
Anyone can see,
Everything’s in tatters, everything’s in tatters, you see

(Who knows where the TARP goes?)

let's seeeeee. hmmm.

lower east i like public - good food, a bit scenester but lots of nice eye candy. can be a wee hectic but fun for a bight night out. for more mellow, peasant is nearby, much more rustic, very hearty italian food, not as many prettys as public but saw a famous newscaster last time there.
chelsea - love the red cat and cookshop. perry street is good too. both are lively and have great food.
west village - mas farmhouse! pricey but quite spectacular. blue hill, also very awesome, and a nice civilized night out in the heart of crazytown. Po and market table and the little owl are also great though more sceney and harder to score a table. i also love mary's fish camp and pearl oyster bar but sounds like you want something a little more special occasiony for tonight?
hmmmmm. trying to rack my brain for other favorites.

CH- I must say ,I'm flattered.

Benson- Long time residents of Yorkville, & the Upper East Side rarely say they are catching the 4,5, 6 , but call it "The Lex".

A few years back , the mother of two little ones next to me on the train reached into a small bag and produced ears of corn, which they promptly all began gnawing on, moments later they decided that the morning sustenance needed salt, and small packets were produced and meal seasoned accordingly. At this point I excused myself from my seat and offered it to another commuter. She politely declined. I remarked to her,I did not realize I was riding in the dining car. That was the first and hopefully last time I will ever see that.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 1:22 PM

DH, CG_ups, "Anyone? Anyone?", at the risk of overstaying my welcome, now how about a recommendation for a fun bar and/or restaurant to go with about 20 people to celebrate my birthday proper? Looking for a place where we can congregate in a corner and everyone can talk to everyone (not a banquet-style sit down dinner). Drinks, appetizers for all, drinks, pool table optional, drinks, dive or nice (all good), drinks, preferably where no one will sing "Happy Birthday" (unless I've had sufficient drinks). Any nabe as long as it's Manhattan, LOL (for my Manhattan and out-of-town friends, not me). Any type of food. A place like Ellis - Brooklyn Inn - Union Hall, only in Manhattan.

"Long time residents of Yorkville, & the Upper East Side rarely say they are catching the 4,5, 6 , but call it "The Lex"."

Crescent Hill, benson - I guess I've lived in the City long enough that I also call it the Lex. And I concur with you both on the whole eating an elaborate meal on the subway thing - a bag of pretzels, ok, but some of the things I've seen people eat are just not meant for a crowded, fast moving train.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 1:55 PM

"But as young and semi-wild kids my friends and I would sneak rides on the platforms between the cars that Benson mentions. A stupid and irresponsible thing to do for sure."

ENY, you and your friends was some wussies. You should have come uptown and hung with me and my friends. We used to ride on the _outside_. On the back. Yeah, they had the handles to do it. Sometimes four of us on the back at one time. It was great fun, especially on the outside trains, like the #1 uptown stops, and then again btw 137th and 116th Streets. Then you could yell down at the passersby or even throw something down at them.

We had an initiation ritual. To be accepted, you had to do the following without getting busted. We would gather at the last stop on the #1, 242nd Street. As you probably know it is crawling with conductors and what not. The 'newbie' would hop the back of the train out of the station. The rest of us would set up a hue and cry and point out to all the MTA personnel that there was a kid hanging off the train.

The newbie would have to make it to the next station, hop off, and get out without getting busted. Of course there was a kid _on_ the train to make sure of the results.

This skill helped us miss as few trains as possible. If we just missed a train as is was pulling out, and we were near the back, just hop on. Also a great way to spread out during rush hour.

Yeah, I remember the straw seats and fans, chiefly on the 'A' train. I think when I was real little you were still allowed to smoke on them.

The 181st Street station always was known as the deepest. Maybe the 63rd has beat it, not sure.

After mandatory login's my buddies and I used to place bets (yes, for $). We had a field of categories.
- Which Thread would get hijacked and go off topic first.
- Who would make the first off color comment and in what thread
- Who would throw out a racist comment

Can't think of the others. We stopped doing this either Jan. or Feb. of this year.
There have been some great threads over the years. And some even greater comments from posters.

Alright "oldtimers", who remembers the following warning on the subways?

"Little enough to ride for free, little enough to ride your knee".

For you youngems: this was an admonition to parents that if your child was little enough to get in for free (I forgot the cut-off age), they should sit on your knee, not hog up a seat.

I say that they should bring this policy back!

for those of you who have met me, do I look like a push-over? here's why I'm asking. I just ran downstairs to get a drink. while waiting for the light to cross street, I was staring at the for sale signs on store across the street. This lady nearby all of the sudden said to me "what are you looking at?" I thought she was referring to someone behind me so I kept looking that direction and she gave me "really, what the f**k are you staring at?" upon which the kiddie gloves came right off. told her "I am looking at those lovely sales signs there and as for you, my guess is you're a pansy dude in drag". when she wave her at me (implying she's going to hit me), I warned her I have no issues slapping a drag queen

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 2:15 PM

was she really a drag queen???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 2:17 PM

salsa aficionados like yours truly remember a great song by Bobby Rodriguez y La Compania (from the 'Lead Me to That Beautiful Band' LP) entitled, simply, 'Numero 6', co-written, btw, by Rueben Blades. It's about waiting for the number 6 to da boogie down Bronx late at night. You don't even have to understand Spanish to get the gist.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 2:53 PM

DIBS, how's the post counts on the 2 OT's stacking up?

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 2:53 PM

The French eat charcoal in tablets - leaves very Goth mouth. They also use them as suppositories (no defining phrase.)

Posted by: Arkady at October 2, 2009 2:54 PM

dibs,
carbon is nature's filter. it absorbs all the toxins and free radicals. something to do with all those electrons in it's outer shell.

Posted by: Legion at October 2, 2009 2:54 PM

i'm sure if i tried to smoke id just wind up right back in the er. i sure want to though!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 2:55 PM

Snappy,

I'm glad you're back, but, but, but...

.......PLEASE, no CAT TALK!!

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 2:56 PM

hiya thl. hopefully i'll progress up to soda and crackers soon. until then, watery tomato soup will have to do.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 2:56 PM

benson...meow! :)

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 2:57 PM

313 here, 386 on Asshat Hill.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 2:57 PM

snappy, sounds like you might need to eat plain plain tofu

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 2:58 PM

I'm a fan of tomato soup (not watery though) so that's not too bad. Least it has some nutrients to keep up your body's ability to fight.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 2:58 PM

oh heavens, is there some sort of juvenile ot race going on now?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 2:59 PM

thl, ive got the good kind of tomato soup too. it kills me to have to water it down like that but its the only way i can have it and not get it caught in my throat :( i adore a good tomato basil soup. as soon as my throat is better, i'm gonna eat a can of it unadulterated and do the jig!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 3:01 PM

We're trying to settle things down, not rile them up M4L. Isn't there some sports reading for you?! : )

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 3:01 PM

hate tofu :(

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 3:01 PM

jeez, how many people are comprising that total?

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 3:01 PM

I agree with Snappy. What is the point of comparing the number of posts? Let folks post where they want, when they want, and to each their own. All I ask is what THL posted yesterday: common courtesy.

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 3:02 PM

I said that? It seems way too reasonable!

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 3:04 PM

i'm assuming that we are talking about the what's ot. if people here wanna know the post count there, we can go and check it out. the same way if whoever is posting over there can check out this one if they wanna know what's happening here. no need to emphasize any further rifts.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 3:05 PM

Probably about 7, including "The New Nicer, Friendlier What"

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 3:06 PM

"No oral gratification at all"

Not yet, but the day is still young

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 3:06 PM

All in favor of NOT comparing post counts with What's blog say "Aye!"

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 3:09 PM

DH, DIBS,.. were posting OT counts previously and I was simply just asking for my own FYI. is that a crime?

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 3:09 PM

No rift.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 3:09 PM

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 3:10 PM

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 3:11 PM

Why not just go look M4L for yourself, if you care!!

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 3:12 PM

But, m4l, weren't you the one who started all the treason talk earlier in the week?

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 3:12 PM

M4L;

Not a crime, but it does tend to imply that there is a competition going on between us. I think most folks would like to get past this schism business and just relax again.

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 3:12 PM

I refuse to go to WHAT's blog to hang out but I dont have tolerance to navigate amidst high drama-sensitive landmines here either. Later

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 3:13 PM

Come on folks, everybody just chill out. Let's not have another dust-up.

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 3:14 PM

There's no competition. I think everyone needs to take achill pill.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 3:14 PM

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 3:19 PM

Also, this is the last weekend of my early 30's. So if you notice any changes / emerging mid life crisis after next week, that will be it.

THL, you and Cobble belong to the same synagogue?

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 3:21 PM

Oy vey, indeed!

Yes, everybody needs to drink something real heard. Not some namby-pamby wine, but some good stiff scotch. Make it a double.

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 3:21 PM

No DIBS, nowehere near big enough for a PLUSA party unfortunately. Would not go there with more than 3-4 other people.

Posted by: etson at October 2, 2009 3:22 PM

Yes (cobble's not Jewish either right?)!

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 3:28 PM

CGar- Sure?!??

Will someone spike Snapperetta's soup.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 3:30 PM

i like to think of a bloody mary as tomato soup with a little something extra. :)

Posted by: CG_ups at October 2, 2009 3:32 PM

LOL Cargar...it'll be a long ass time before i'm ready to look at margaritas again!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 3:34 PM

whats in a bloody mary anyway?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 3:34 PM

Good point CG. Spike it and toss in a celery stick.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 3:35 PM

tomato juice, VODKA, tobasco, horseradish, worstershire sauce (just a drop or two), squeeze of lemon, throw in a celery stick (for garnish and to soak up some of the acidity). tomato juice has vitamins, lemon has vitamins, horseradish has antioxidants, i mean it's like drinking health itself!

Posted by: CG_ups at October 2, 2009 3:38 PM

"Oy vey, indeed!"

et tu, benson? What synagogue? ; )

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 3:39 PM

ok...considering the fact that my tummy is evicting almost everything like a non-paying tenant, tobasco, vodka, et al sound like a really bad idea right about now!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 3:41 PM

I love Bloody Marys. Sunday Brunch, I think.

oooh...just got a craving for pb&j sammich. sigh.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 2, 2009 3:41 PM

And rim the glass with celery salt. Use V8 and Clamato for a really great kick

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 3:42 PM

I could go for PB&J too. On Wonder Bread. But definitely NOT with a Bloody Mary. With a tall glass of ice cold milk.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 3:44 PM

nothing better for sunday brunch than a lobster roll, shoestring fries, and a bloody mary. i like to call it the grande dame of west palm ladies who lunch meal.

randolph - the short answer is an increasing amount of drama from a decreasing number of people. i think it's waning at this point, but you're seeing the results of the tail end of the big dust up. i suspect all will resolve itself soon enough. nobody can give a shit for this long. we are in the era of short attention spans.

And what is your role in all this 'sh*t' DIBS? Is stirring the pot on both sides helping?

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 4:38 PM

DIBS, that aint me.

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 4:39 PM

snappy- glad to see you back. I'm surprised you can down tea and tomato soup- those have high acidity- I get violently sick on that if my stomach's upset. I can't even drink tea in the morning but coffee is no problem. I usually do what THL suggests- ginger ale and soda crackers. Or plain water and crackers. Unsalted chicken broth too.

Posted by: bxgrl at October 2, 2009 4:40 PM

It's dawned on me, I think brownjokester is Brownstoner, Mr. B, slacking into the OT.

Posted by: infinitejester at October 2, 2009 4:41 PM

infinite! That's hilarious! I kinda doubt Mr. B cares enough to do that, but it sure would be funny!

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 4:43 PM

My preference would be for everyone to be back here.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 4:43 PM

I think Mr. b would probably lose credibility if he had a sockpuppet.

I also don't think he's stoop to that level. Whenever I've used mine, they were to inject some sort of levity and that was it...Bold Type Guest and Vinnie. here was another one or two a long time ago, Brooke Lynne was one and can't even remember the other one

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 4:45 PM

Well, your actions don't match what you just said, DIBS.

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 4:46 PM

If I were to wager a guess, I'd think Mr. B would prefer that there were more than 16 comments on the state of the 3rd Quarter real estate market than the 600 or so in this and What's OT. But who cares what he thinks, right?

I mean, I'm sure he started this blog so that it would turn into another yahoo instant messenger...

(And I'm fully aware I'm guilty as charged also, but it really seems as though what's going on in here is taking precedence over what's going on the threads and that isn't healthy for the long term viability of this blog).

Posted by: 11217 at October 2, 2009 4:47 PM

Sorry cobble. maybe I'm just doing it to try and sort out who's got the right perspective on this and who doesn't.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 4:48 PM

just from my perspective, I don't recall where / how DIBS trigger any dust up here the last 2 days. I take responsibility for triggering yesterday's with my fraternizing with the enemy posts. this afternoon, all DIBS did was respond per my request out of curiousity what was the post costs looking.

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 4:50 PM

Just a thought...

Maybe we shouldn't discuss Asshat Hill here and they might find it wise to do the same over there. Continuing to discuss What's blog in Mr. B's 'house' isn't very nice.

Besides, all the post # comparisons here and talking about the BOT there doesn't seem to be smoothing out matters much.

If they're happy over there so be it. I'm sure what goes on in the BOT doesn't concern them all that much then right? If they have any interest in what is going on here they can always join in.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 4:51 PM

Have a good weekend all. Try to put this all in perspective.

Posted by: benson at October 2, 2009 4:52 PM

Then just come back, Dave. If others want to come back, then they'll eventually come back as well.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 4:52 PM

Benson's got the right idea.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 4:53 PM

once again just speaking for myself, I don't have any issues with the folks who left this blog. I was and am just disappointed they ended up hanging out at WHAT's blog. if they were hanging out at THL's blog, curbed,... I wouldn't even have an opinion. I miss them and also out of curiousity, I ask for the post count and don't tell me to go look over there - I refuse to add to his blog page view counts. There is no hate or competition with them

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 4:54 PM

etson, happy birthday.

Posted by: infinitejester at October 2, 2009 4:55 PM

THL:

I agree with you. The What's blog is a piece of crap and doesn't discuss ANY of the things people were supposedly attracted to about THIS blog in the first place. So when comment counts start getting heavy over on this person's blog who is not only racist, but also said some horrific things to some of the valued posters on this blog COMBINED with the fact that he doesn't discuss or research real estate or brownstones, it really does seem like a total slap in the face to Mr. B (who, believe it or not does a lot to gather the information to put these threads up to then have then ignored so that people can fight like 14 years olds in the OT).

It feels wrong. I agree.

(I think that might have been a run on sentence...)

Posted by: 11217 at October 2, 2009 4:55 PM

Well, unless you actually speak to the individuals that are upset. And so far, those people haven't been comfortable to speak their minds. I'm not sure why. AL spoke up for some of them. But it wasn't the full picture.

But the upset/rift is very real to a number of people, DIBS. I think CG_ups started to talk a little about it last night.

Biff was VERY shocked to find out that people have been upset with him. And he's been privately emailing people to talk about how to resolve it.

There are others who I have spoken to who are upset. I cannot speak for any of them, but I do understand their reasons.

One very old and close friendship has been destroyed by this. Which is just horrible. I can't speak for those people either.

And one very close old friend of this blog has been badly maligned, and I'm not sure how to help fix that.

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 4:59 PM

I've been here all along. I never left.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:01 PM

Look I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with What's blog or what we discuss in the OT.

What did an OT for those who wanted to for lack of a better word defect. So be it. Fine by me.

All I'm trying to say is it's disrespectful to Mr. B to keep talking about What's blog over here. Likewise I'm sure that they have no interest in discussing things that happen over here over there. If they did have any interest in this blog they'd still be here.

Let's just keep the two camps separate. For those hopping back and forth please wipe your feet at the door so as not to track any dirt back with you on your shoes.

if this were true would we even be talking about this! PATHETIC!

Posted by: randolph at October 2, 2009 5:05 PM

I understand what you're saying, cobble. I think these people who have been "maligned" need a better perspective, or something. Why does one care when someone comes out of nowhere and hurls all kinds of insults at them. Engage them or brush them off and be on with it.

I am probably one of the most singularly maligned people on here whether it be from the What, BHO, brickoven, cornerbodega or ghettoazzpnkbtch (who you might know has lurked on silverdaddies for me!!!! LOL)

Do I care, no. It doesn't bother me. I'm still here. I haven't committed blogicide. Now maybe some of these "maligned" people can't handle that, which i understand, but for the whole thing to fall apart "in sympathy" is just ridiculous.

I know there's some jealousy and i think that is ridiculous too.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:06 PM

randolph, STFU.

No, no one cares what you say. :)

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:11 PM

It's not jealousy and I think that's where you are getting this wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

The person that was badly maligned WASN'T EVEN ON THE BLOG, DIBS. She hasn't had anything to do with this and she been ABUSED verbally and VERY nastily to the point that there were rumors that she would be treated very badly if she came to the party. So that's cool with you?

You aren't listening at all. You have made up your mind as to what has happened and you aren't willing to question what you have been effing FED. WAKE UP.

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 5:12 PM

Arkady, I'll resurrect her next week and you too can do a little thing togeher to tantalize the men folk

I invented her one day on the train when Biff was getting all sorts of shit. I think it was back when there were still faded type guests. She came online and batted her eyes at him and made sweet talk to him. LOL

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:14 PM

I know it was not the person whom we speak of, cobble. I can't right the wrongs that others are doing though

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:16 PM

Haven't we all agreed that what happened was lousy? Don't we also realize there's nothing we can do to change the past? Can't we just leave it alone & move on?

Posted by: Arkady at October 2, 2009 5:16 PM

Right you cannot, but you can sure as hell look at your behavior and ask yourself — Are you hurting or are you helping? Think, DIBS, think!

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 5:18 PM

I think Mr. B should come out and let us know who Another Lurker actually was.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:19 PM

Here's the thing though...

Cobble, I feel you and to be honest, a big part of the reason why I've never been interested in coming to the meet-ups are because of situations just like this. I could see it happening and there are definitely some people on this blog who don't seem to care for me. Look at last night's HOTD thread when Minard came on last night and made a very irrational post about me.

But the problem I see (as a relative outsider to this whole thing) is that some people are saying...ah who cares...it's just a blog, get over it and move on. But at the same time people are saying, these are my friends, true friends, etc.

So at some point you need to decide...is it just a blog for fun or are these true friends...? Because a true friend does not stand by and watch people they like/love get hurt and brush it off so easily.

Posted by: 11217 at October 2, 2009 5:20 PM

All I did today was to tell what the count was over at AHOT.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:20 PM

Arkady, sweeping it under the rug doesn't solve it either but it is better to have a good honest chat between friends face to face to resolve things vs. on the blog here.

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 5:21 PM

Dave- I just went over and took a gander at What's OT. Now that I've seen it for myself I will say there does seem to be a real preoccupation in what's going on over here. Seems like everyone is keeping tabs on both blogs.

As someone who came out and immediately defended both Bitter and Beoch from AL's attack I find their not so thinly veiled passive aggressive and mocking comments with regard to the USPS and shipping inquiry's petty. (for those who don't know I was inquiring about how to ship packages to Canada yesterday).

If this is the way they talk about someone who's been nice to them then that's not exactly my type of people. I get why so many people have become disenfranchised with their behavior.

There was no reason for that other than to be nasty. Nice job *ladies*, jeez.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 5:23 PM

What's weird is most of us are still friends! I've hung out with PLUSAs three times this week.

Posted by: infinitejester at October 2, 2009 5:24 PM

And where did I initiate stirring things up today???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:25 PM

11217 - No matter how one feels about what has occurred, there's nothing we can do to change it.
My hope is that the get together will be a time of healing - thus far the ones I have been to have been amicable w/ frenemies able to discuss differences w/o all the carry-on they indulge in on the thread.

Posted by: Arkady at October 2, 2009 5:26 PM

Well, I'm not standing by any longer 11217. Your point is valid. It's all just fucking around and fun until people REAL PEOPLE get hurt. And I'm PISSED OFF now.

The garbage that is being SPEWED on BOTH sides HAS TO STOP. Teasing and goofing around is one thing, but acting like we're in 5th grade and hurting people IS NOT.

The people that want to brush it off and say "ah, it's just a blog" and not take it seriously can do as they please. And will pay me no mind, and that's their perogative.

I'd be happy to meet you and anyone else I've bickered with. But that's me. And I'm generally happy to bury the hatchet if the hand is offered. And with you, I did do that.

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 5:26 PM

THL, I don't think the USPS jabs were meant for you specifically, just that it was probably a long and boring discussion about, well, the USPS.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:27 PM

Dave- Don't get me wrong I'm not looking to yoiu to comment on their behavior or to try to defend it in any way. It's not your responsibility. If I really cared that much I'd take it up with them.

Just making a comment based upon what I just saw.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 5:27 PM

You'd be very surprised at the changes that can be effected in the human heart. Resentment can be cured. Remember what someone said to me this week:

"This conversation will go a long way toard ending our differences. In fact I think they are ended."

Posted by: infinitejester at October 2, 2009 5:29 PM

And, i can't imagine all of us not having a good time Oct 15, just as we always did in the past. If there was some problem at pacifico i was blind to it.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:29 PM

What on earth could someone take issue with about a postage query? Not to roil the waters but that seems strange. It's not as if there can be much difference of opinion about postage.

Posted by: Arkady at October 2, 2009 5:30 PM

"What's weird is most of us are still friends! I've hung out with PLUSAs three times this week."

PATHETIC!

Posted by: randolph at October 2, 2009 5:30 PM

Sorry I missed the GPO discussion. I can do absolute hours about the postal service.

Posted by: Arkady at October 2, 2009 5:32 PM

11217- think for a lot of us who have met outside the blog, its really both. When you've eaten out or been to someone's house or just hung out together, it blurs the lines. I think most of us never expected to be friends with one another offline and I always thought it was one of the wonderful things about b'stoner. especially when there is someone you battle with online and then meet them and find you can be friends (benson? You there :-)?

Posted by: bxgrl at October 2, 2009 5:35 PM

Arkady, to be honest I didn't read much of the postage discussion. In the past though, we would throw jabs at virtually anything anyone brought up here and it would just all be in fun. This week though, after "the problem" anything anyone says gets misconstrued into hate and one side vs. the other.

That would not have happened before. i could have called each and everyone of you a jackass (for whatever stupid reason) and meant it before all this and it would have been forgotten 20 minutes later by both of us. Now, it is different and that's sad.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:35 PM

Dave don't. It was very obvious.

Like I said, just an observation as to their behavior. Let them own it good, bad or otherwise.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 5:36 PM

This is going to take longer to iron out than the Mideast peace accords.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:37 PM

THL, I don't think we can be sure who it was without real proof. Not when somebody wants to login on a sockpuppet because they might want to hurt the person they are pretending to be. You never know.

I'm not sure who it was I know everybody here, most of the people we are now talking about in person.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:40 PM

The problem started at 4th Ave. Pub.

Posted by: infinitejester at October 2, 2009 5:40 PM

What the hell is 4th Ave Pub???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:41 PM

Dave when I said this

"Dave don't. It was very obvious.

Like I said, just an observation as to their behavior. Let them own it good, bad or otherwise. "

I was referring to Bitter and Beoch and the comments from today. Not AL or anything/one else.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 5:43 PM

"This is going to take longer to iron out than the Mideast peace accords."

It doesn't have to if people take a good look at their behavior and think about whether or not they

a) want to be here,

and b) Ask themselves if they are helping or hurting the situation?

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 5:44 PM

Wow, no one has really explained the problem. It's something I would only feel comfortable doing in person.

Posted by: infinitejester at October 2, 2009 5:44 PM

Enlighten us IJ, what happened at 4th Ave pub?

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 5:45 PM

4th Av Pub was Aug 14th, I think.

Posted by: Arkady at October 2, 2009 5:46 PM

in non-blog world, this is not enough to break real friendships. work it out directly btwn the parties vs. on display here.

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 5:46 PM

Gosh, didn't know posting on another blog was so controversial. We pretty much talk about all the stuff that people don't seem to want to hear about over there, so I figured you would all rather we not have those convos here. I just don't really have any interest in having a hall monitor tell me I'm offending people or shouldn't be posting with sock puppets (which I don't, except for megapussi, that was totally me) or whatever. So I am throwing a big fun party over at asshathill. If anyone doesn't like it - well, don't read it.

There are plenty of hammocks and cold drinks over there if anyone wants to stop by.

Hasta.

Posted by: lechacal at October 2, 2009 5:46 PM

OK THL, but that said, there have beeen many people throughout the history of the OT who have said nasty things at times to people, myself included. Why was it forgotten about, worked out, or whatever "back then" and not now??

I would actually welcome more controversial figures into the OT. certainly it's been fun having 11217 here.

And I'm sure Mr B likes the page turns and post counts.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:46 PM

"The problem started at 4th Ave. Pub."

What the bejeasus happened at the 4th Av. pub?? Oh for g*dsakes, there's even more to this?

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 5:47 PM

Jester , email me then.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:47 PM

"in non-blog world, this is not enough to break real friendships"

m4l, I hate to break it to you, and I'm very sorry to say it, but yes it is

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 5:48 PM

I have no idea, cobble.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:49 PM

cobble, I've already told you - and you agreed with my assessment.

Posted by: infinitejester at October 2, 2009 5:49 PM

OK...got to run...Taking the train to "the very best part" of park Slope to meet an old colleague in her truly extravagant brownstone and go out to dinner.

See you all on Monday.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:50 PM

So you'll be on my block then, Dave?

Enjoy.

Posted by: 11217 at October 2, 2009 5:53 PM

Oh, last night infinite? The part about the bar stools?

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 5:53 PM

"in non-blog world, this is not enough to break real friendships"

m4l, I hate to break it to you, and I'm very sorry to say it, but yes it is

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 2, 2009 5:48 PM

no, hate to break it to you cause then that wasn't a true friend or a friendship where the friends viewed it valuable enough to work things out. as I like to say in that situation, you lost an associate, not a friend.

Posted by: more4less at October 2, 2009 5:54 PM

Oh I totally agree Dave. At the same time. We never said things behind each others backs. We battled it out in the OT playground. None of these back room convos and under the table remarks. It was a clean fight if you catch my drift.

Remember, I was defending bitter and beoch, decrying AL's actions, asking everyone here to remain calm and not let this destroy things. Even defended what's blog! I was, what I think, very level headed.

I only just read the comments and yeah got a little miffed that the one's I defended were being so blatantly snide and rude.

Am I going to lose my mind over it? No. All I'm saying is it added some validity to what others had said with regard to their behavior.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 5:55 PM

We'll be at Yamato at 8:00 at the sushi bar if you want to stop by

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 2, 2009 5:55 PM

Bar stools - it was chairs but yes.

Posted by: infinitejester at October 2, 2009 5:57 PM

One of many things I've been hearing about. Now I'm exhausted.

It's 6pm, do you know where your cocktail/beverage of choice is?

Have a good weekend all.

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 6:00 PM

You too Cobble. I'm going to go swig a big glass of lemonade and pretend there's some vodka in it.

Have a good one everyone!

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 2, 2009 6:07 PM

Excellent thought THL! : )

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 2, 2009 6:10 PM

The What's site was a result of B's site. B cant be mad. I think he should peek in spew obscenities and help build. Am I my brothers keeper?

Also Re: B and a sockpuppet

Why wouldnt he have a log in? This is his passion and he's blogging full time. Anything is possible dont be naive people. I myslef would have 5 logins and members of my staff would have 1 each. we would chime in all day and stir the pot.

Dibs is Vinny and Brooke Lyn HA!

You know what's funny? Everyone on here is acting typical. People who study online communities and social media say everyone likes to hang out and socialize and joke and flirt. They don't always do what the makers intended. also, communities often implode because of disagreements like this.
