im not going to eat it, but is pizza that is left out in a box over night still okay to eat? we had a pizza party at work yesterday and someone put the rest in the back on the table and i was wondering if i should throw it out or not. is it safe to eat? does cheese go back if left out?

Posted by: Butterfly at October 1, 2009 9:28 AM

rob - It depends on the ambient temperature. Garlic kills germs but if the room were hot or if there's pepperoni or sausage, I'd toss it.

Yeah, dibs, good sausage - sausage good.

still riff raff free here. now, let's keep it that way.

Shall we have a pool on how long it'll be before someone posts as riff raff?

Posted by: Arkady at October 1, 2009 9:40 AM

I think we need to define who is and who isn't riff raff.

I also want aclearer definition of riff raff. Specifically how riff raff differs from "rough trade."

DIBS, the true locals say we're all immigrants - including you. besides, you "love" immigrants

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 9:44 AM

riff-raff are people who live in neighborhoods they cannot afford. they spend 50-75 percent of their income on rent and or buy houses they can't afford. thus i am a prime example of riff-raff. i think you people mistakeningly think the term applies to people like Pigpen from Peanuts.

Minister of the Interior
Republic of Norway

Dear Sir;

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting Oslo on business. I found it to be a lovely and charming city. I noted that it is becoming a city of international business. Moreover, I observed that the city now has its share of immigrants. Given these developments, I would like to call your attention to the following matter: the height of your urinals. With many non-Scandanavian short guys now in the city (like me) this issue should be addressed. I did not enjoy pissing up into a urinal, with the resultant splatter on my shirt.

Please alter your urinal height regulations to accommodate your international visitors. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely
Benson

Posted by: benson at October 1, 2009 9:48 AM

dibs - So you made a splash w/ your new friends?

Posted by: Arkady at October 1, 2009 9:57 AM

Pete....P.J. Clarke's on 3rd Ave and 54th has those big old urinals

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 1, 2009 9:58 AM

Funny, benson. Of course, you are asking for an awful lot of government intervention or regulation on that topic. Maybe some stepping stools would suffice.

Thanks to championinbed for keeping the party going. (Thanks to your combined moniker, I have a new earworm -- "when your date says no, champion says yes.") But we still have to figure out how to get cobble and snappy back.

Posted by: slopefarm at October 1, 2009 9:59 AM

Come on guys, let's engage in some cat talk to get 'en back. Even I'll hold my nose and talk about cats, to do my part.

Dave, as I recall, you organized the first End of the World party about a year ago. If you still remember who was at the first one, you should do a list of people that survived 'Doomsday' and came out a year later/or are still posting, people that have disappeared like a puff of 'Mutant Asset Bubble' cloud and new additions to hopefully survive this predicted meltdown.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 10:09 AM

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 10:09 AM

I'm in for 15th.

I have had the experience of being too short (in height) for urinals over here as well.
In the UK pubs etc usually have the gutter-type urinals, but those can cause even worse splashback problems.

Posted by: etson at October 1, 2009 10:10 AM

ps benson - don't the washrooms have stalls with toilets? even a giant toilet sounds like it might be lower to the ground than the megaurinals. which btw, that was a really gross start to the morning, thanks! :P

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 10:10 AM

The troughs don't splash if they're filled with ice. And then you can have fun melting select ice cubes.

And Pacifico was the fifth; ground zero for the Monday OT Ugly Imbroglio

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 1, 2009 10:19 AM

"Can't wait 'till ENY hears all of this."

I spent several years as a travel writer, and have been to Europe plenty of times, and even to Oslo. As a result, I've pissed in all manner of urinals, from "tall" ones to "troughs" to holes in the ground. So Benson's experience is not unfamiliar. Luckily, I'm around 5'10" (in height).

Posted by: East New York at October 1, 2009 10:23 AM

DIBS, I don't consider Pacifico to be one of the big gatherings. It was more an unadvertised mini, impromptu one, like our other gatherings at Waterfront Ale House. The five I mentioned were the biggies.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 10:23 AM

i liked rope. that is a good place. we need to branch out. was that brooklyn inn one not an official bash? sounds like you all had a big turnout for that one.

i think i'm going to the botanical garden this weekend. wonder if it will be crowded. tried to go one year during the cherry blossoms and it was like freakin mardi gras.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 10:23 AM

DIBS, I don't consider Pacifico to be one of the big gatherings. It was more an unadvertised mini, impromptu one

And the Candy Store.

How many different classifications are there, Biff?

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 1, 2009 10:26 AM

"was that brooklyn inn one not an official bash? sounds like you all had a big turnout for that one."

Nope, another "unofficial" one, CG_ups. The "official" ones are more heavily promoted, i.e., in other threads, as the event draws near and planned weeks in advance and get around 30-35 people. The others, including Brooklyn Inn, are usually just mentioned in the OT close to the drinkup date and draw approximately 10-15 people.

Hmmm, I didn't realize the position of Prez entailed ruling on such important matters.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 10:27 AM

i want to see jester do the worm. it sounds priceless. maybe that can be our "bait" to get cobble snaps back in for oct 15???

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 10:29 AM

hey, who is going to the Crown Heights tour and are any meeting up to stroll thru together?

I think I'll go but wont get there till around 12:30 or so

Pending Home Sales +6.4% MOM vs. +1.0% expected.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 1, 2009 10:30 AM

"How many different classifications are there, Biff?"

Just two:

Official Gatherings: Union Hall, Floyd NY, Rope, Ellis and the upcoming Union Hall Party.

Unofficial Gatherings: Ratifico, Brooklyn Inn, Waterfront Ale House/Floyd NY, Pete's Candy Store, Mezcal's, Clover Club

Any other important matters of business I need to tend to today?

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 10:30 AM

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 1, 2009 10:30 AM

cable and internet service, time warner, seriously blows chunks. our cable and internet is out AGAIN. this is the third or fourth time someone has to come out and look at the problem. grrr. and they always give you some random day like a week later, oh yeah can anyone be there from 1-5 on a wednesday? it's like no, some people f'ing work during the day. then they give you a saturday appointment and twice they did this and i waited around only to have them NOT SHOW UP! so now i have a saturday appointment again with a 4 hour window, they better show up. it's frustrating having no cable or internet access at home.

*rob*

Posted by: randolph at October 1, 2009 11:18 AM

Biff, if you are in the area that they are laying then it's well worth it but most of Brooklyn isn't covered yet.

Posted by: the chicken at October 1, 2009 11:18 AM

It's now in Brooklyn Heights I believe, Randi (and chicken).
I saw some folks set up on the corner of Clark and Henry a couple months back pitching it to folks on the street but I couldn't stop and talk to them at the time.

DIBS, riff raff label needs to be earned by more current accomplishments. I dont hand it out that loosely and more dated historical accomplishmts carry little weight unless it was truly historical impact-like.

Biff- What's the best way to ship something to Canada cheaply? Someone is bidding/buy now-ing on one of my husbands Ebay items and are located in Ontario. I've never shipped anything there before.

UPS, USPS? Do I need a zip code from them to look it up?

If you don't know that's cool. Just figured I'd ask someone who may have dealt with it before.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 11:24 AM

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 11:25 AM

Biff, if you live in or next to one of the big multi-unit bldgs, chances of you having FiOS is higher. it's more cost effective for them to drag fiber from manhole into those bldgs than into each townhouse

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 11:25 AM

THL - Go to usps.com - click on find postage for foreign, put in weight & they'll tell you. You don't need their equivalent of zip.

THL, sorry I was late to respond to your inquiry. I typically only send letters to Canada. I go often enough to take packages by plane or car. Regardless, seems Arkady already helped you out.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 11:34 AM

don,t ship UPS internationally as it is expensive and you'll have to fill out massive customs papers. USPS you just have to fill out small or larger customs form depending on value

Posted by: denton at October 1, 2009 11:36 AM

That's o.k.! I've already got the price. One of those small flat rate boxes is only $12.95. I've never shipped anything internationally except at work by Fed Ex and that form was redunkulous. So, I wasn't thinking it would be as simple as it was.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 11:38 AM

Yes, but at USPS you have to deal with the employees.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 11:40 AM

I want to make it as easy as possible. He's finally decided that maybe it's a good time to start whittling down his massive toy collection. Mostly collectible action figures.

If this gets annoying or tricky it might thwart the whole project.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 11:41 AM

What kind of toys are we talking about???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 1, 2009 11:44 AM

DIBS--get your ass to the widget thread. BHO in the hizzouse.

Posted by: wasder at October 1, 2009 11:49 AM

He's got all kinds of different collections.

Right now he's going through his G1 Transformers there looks to be at least 100+.

We have a crap loads of those giant plastic storage bins (the huge kind you store X-mas decorations in). I don't even know what all is in them but each one is filled to the top.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 11:50 AM

If you download postage from USPS it's slightly cheaper & you can have parcels picked up from your house for nothing - you just have to book a pick-up on line.

Posted by: Arkady at October 1, 2009 11:51 AM

THL - Are you sure you don't want to save all those toys for the new baby?

Posted by: Arkady at October 1, 2009 11:54 AM

That just what I asked! He said he's only parting with those that don't have sentimental value. I do know he's keeping all the Star Wars.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 11:59 AM

Chicken, I actually do own that plus a version in China and 1 in canada.

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 12:02 PM

Ok - I have got to try to make this one considering I live like 2 blocks away!!!
hope all is well with you all - have been NUTS at work!

Posted by: gemini10 at October 1, 2009 12:04 PM

THL - But he won't want the kid to play w/ the ones w/ sentimental value in case they're trashed. You gotta keep the junk - my great nephews play w/ my old Davy Crockett stuff - what goes around comes back!

Posted by: Arkady at October 1, 2009 12:05 PM

Plus action figures are dangerous with little kids cause they are inviting looking but have lots of small parts toddlers can choke on.

I've made my argument.

I think his thinking is that this will bring in the money needed to start working on making the basement a family/pool room.

His only request when we went house hunting was that it could accommodate a full size pool table. He carried a tape measure everywhere we went to see if it could fit. Since I've nixed the use of the dining room for that purpose (oh hell to the nizzo!) he's bound and determined to get the basement finished.

Old toys are pretty interesting, my dad was an only child and my late grandmother saved many of his toys, which are now stored in my attic. Most things date from the early 1940's through the early 50's. Someone once told me I should catalogue everything but I never get around to it. Some of the stuff up there includes a complete pre war- Lionel Train set with plasticville houses, a complete tin wind up train set, view masters with cartoon slides, western gear, holster, toy pistols, tin cars, as well as all his birthday cards from birth announcement till about 21 years of age... Anyway, if anyone ever wants to watch the first season of the Pinky Lee Show on viewmaster, just give a holler.

- Washington DC
- Seattle
- New York
- Portland
- Austin

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 12:36 PM

Wow Crescent! You should def. catalog them. My dad still sets up his Lionel train to go around the XMas tree every year. Love it.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 12:42 PM

so i really like this old song from the 70's called Magic by Pilot. whilst on youtube listening to it i see that disney tween megastar Serena Gomez has recorded a remake of it. While I'm not keen to hate on something that I haven't listened to, the problem is that you can't unlisten to something. Once it's in there, it's in there. So can someone trustworthy listen to her version and confirm to me that it sucks?

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 12:42 PM

One of the entertainment shows did a thing about the nightlife in DC and it was so weird. It was like interns gone wild. All these fresh face college prepsters getting hammered.

Too Twilight Zone for me.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 12:44 PM

I'll be your ears. I'm going to listen to the original first and then the SG version and report back.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 12:45 PM

So to clarify the TKOTD award guidelines:

Clock starts with the first post on the OT.

Anyone who posts and doesn't have a subsequent post from another commenter within 10 minutes gets the award.
I don't like the lunchtime exemption (except in THL's case today). So the clock keeps going until 5:50pm EST.

Because the posting seriously wanes at 6pm, anything posted after 5:50pm EST on the OT is exempt.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 12:46 PM

Oh I know this song (original) didn't recognize it by name/artist.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 12:46 PM

you are the BEST! thanks THL :)

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 12:47 PM

i thought we were going to make it longer than 10min after the whole cargar getting pummelled by thread killer awards.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 12:48 PM

So far it's pretty close to the original but with a teenybopper voice.

Could be worse. Could def. be better but I wasn't expecting all that much so I guess I'm kinda pleasantly surprised-ish.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 12:48 PM

CG_ups, I think 10 mins is a good amount of time. It seems short yet not too many awards have been given out yet. What do others think? What should it be?

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 12:50 PM

Don't be kind, I'll carry the award until I find the next sad sack to pass it off to.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 12:50 PM

THL - I'm happy to share my many TKOTD awards with you any time.

THL, Crescent Hill - My brother still has his original Lionel Trains from the 50s, and for the past 15 years he has been avidly collecting Lionel trains and Plasticville from all eras. When he (nearly) ran out of things to buy for himself, he started collecting HO scale Lionel trains (which I never even knew Lionel made) and Plasticville for me. I still have my original Matchbox cars from the 60s, which are completely trashed, and so I recollected all of the Matchbox cars I had as a kid in mint condition and display them in an original Matchbox store display case.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 12:50 PM

okey dokey. i think part of the coolness of the original song is the uniqueness of the dude's voice. thank you! :)

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 12:50 PM

oh no! that's terrible news about snappy. i'm so sorry to hear she is not well. please send smoke signals to let her know we hope she feels better soon.

Posted by: bodhi_brooklyn at October 1, 2009 12:52 PM

Speaking of paucity of women.....

....as you can see from my posts, I'm an engineer who is engaged in alot of international business. In my work, I've interacted with engineers from Japan, Korea, Canada, the UK, Sweden, Norway, France, Italy, Cyprus, Israel and of course the US. One statement that can safely be made is that engineering is a man's world (not celebrating - just making a statement of fact). If you go to Japan, for instance, the number of women engineers approaches zero. In the US, I'd guess that women make up 5% of the engineering force.

There is one country that, from my experience, is a notable exception: Italy. I used to work alot with a customer in Milan, Italy (in fact, for a while, I was living there half-time). Roughly 50% of the engineers there are women. And let me tell you, unlike their counterparts in the US, they were not afraid to show their feminine side. Dressed to kill, baby!!! Aot of women engineers in the US sort of dress down so that they feel like they are fitting in with the boys.

"CGar, as the recipient of more TKOTD awards than anyone else (combined, perhaps), what do you think? 10 mins?"

Biff, given my track record, I'd say 10 days! But I think 10 minutes is fair. Though, as your Chief of Staff, I'd recommend a lunch hour exemption.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 12:58 PM

CGar- one of my favorite toys was the Hess Truck my dad would get us each year. It always came out around the holidays and they were awesome. working lights, horns, barrels of oil. LOVED it. He also bought us Matchbox cars.

He had two girls and no sons. Poor thing.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 12:59 PM

Bodhi;

You and I have different tastes. I went to see Jersey Boys, and couldn't wait to get out - and I'm a BIG 4 seasons fan. I can't take these so-called musicals like Jersey Boys, Mam Mia, Uptown Girls, etc. where you know what happened is that the producer said: "OK, we've got these set of songs from which we've got to make a story". In the case of Jersey Boys, I remember that they took one FV song and used it for some scene that was ludicrous.

Posted by: benson at October 1, 2009 12:59 PM

M4L;

Actually, I do have such a picture! I don't have a FLICKR page, however. I'll e-mail it to DIBS, and he can post it.

Posted by: benson at October 1, 2009 1:01 PM

THL- The Lionels are all in the original red & blue boxes, as is the art deco style transformer/control box. The set was last displayed in the late 80's. It takes up nearly a whole room if you set up correctly with the trees, street lights, billboards, benches, pedestrians, houses & airport. I only set up the wind up tin trains around the X-mas tree because it is slightly smaller scale and my niece & nephew like to hear the locomotive whistle.

CG- My mom put away my MB car travel case with 20 or so cars in it as well as my Star Wars Millenium Falcon with 10 or so figures inside it. This stuff is up there too, dating from the late 70's. In that box are also Happy Days & Laverne & Shirley, as well as Dukes of Hazard coloring books that my sister never colored in ...again, I was told to save these because they are not colored in and in new condition.. I have the Plasticville Diner, Airport, Southern Mansion, Log Cabin and a few cars & airplanes.

Posted by: Crescent Hill at October 1, 2009 1:01 PM

Benson,

Don't you see the value in bringing a new audience to the work and keeping the spirit and music alive?

Of course, as with everything, there is going to be some creative license so as to give it flow.

Otherwise it's just a tribute band concert right?

Posted by: TownhouseLady at October 1, 2009 1:02 PM

i agree with THL. it was basically a fun, energetic show. i don't think it will get any awards for play of the year, but it had high positive energy and I liked that.

Posted by: bodhi_brooklyn at October 1, 2009 1:06 PM

THL, my friends bought Hess trucks for their kids every Christmas, though I THINK they stopped once the "kids" went off to college. I was big on Matchbox cars and Lego - I was always building, a frustrated architect who should NOT have become a lawyer. The trains were more my brother's; I think I got turned off when I rebuilt his layout one day, and he got mad and threw a piece of track at me, and I still have the scar!

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 1:07 PM

THL;

Perhaps it works for that purpose. I'm a HUGE fan of the traditional Broadway musical, and I'm looking at it in that way. I think if Rogers and Hemmerstein saw some of these productions, they would make a citizen's arrest!

Posted by: benson at October 1, 2009 1:08 PM

Crescent Hill- you should really catalogue all that stuff. I've seen what some of the toys go for on Antiques roadshow and other programs- OMG! Plus- they're wonderful. My brother still has his old Lionel Train set but he never had the buildings and accessories but the locomotive was thrilling to see blowing steam and the whistle.

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 1:08 PM

Benson, one reason (besides the much easier math) I switched majors from Electrical Engineering to Acctg is there were zero talent in engineering school. The girls were often very very smart (& often foreign students) but looks were......... best I not say it

"the art deco style transformer/control box"

Crescent Hill - my brother has the same transformer. His layout - set up in what was briefly the family room in the finished basement - is about the same size. The only things I saved were the Matchbox cars, a collection of antique banks, comic books, and a Watergate coloring book that was never colored in (which I didn't appreciate then, but do now).

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 1:12 PM

Pending Sales of Existing Homes in U.S. Rose 6.4% in August

Oct. 1 (Bloomberg) -- The number of contracts to buy previously owned homes in the U.S. increased more than forecast in August, reinforcing signs of a rebound in housing, industry figures showed today.

The index of signed purchase agreements, or pending home sales, rose 6.4 percent after a 3.2 percent gain in July, the National Association of Realtors announced in Washington. The gain was the seventh in a row. Compared with a year earlier, pending sales rose 12.4 percent.

"Can any meaningful recover in housing be sustained in light of these unprecedented budget deficits?"

Can't answer that. Obama and Congress have a huge job ahead of them to fix the total mess Bush caused during those 8 years.

Had Bush have stood up after 9/11 and brought this country together to do more than "shop" we wouldn't be in nearly as much of a mess as we are now.

That event and time in our history was an immense opportunity to improve this country in extremely powerful ways, and he completely dropped the ball.

Posted by: 11217 at October 1, 2009 2:26 PM

"GM's september sales down 45%, Chrysler down 42%? We're not out of the woods yet."

I think that was to be expected given the enthusiasm over cash for clunkers. Anyone who had been waiting to buy or was thinking about it in the near future jumped on board and bought at that time.

Might be a little bit until there's a new batch of people looking to buy.

I know the cash4clunkers program caused some to trade up earlier than planned but that's exactly the point - it didn't trigger much new unplanned consumption, just "accordianed" the demand that was already in the pipeline.

11217,

just playing devil's advocate, before reading this article, which I am sure will not be skewed left coming from a NYTimes columnist,
how does the writer reconcile his contention that there was no net household income when overall (the economic housing meltdown notwithstanding) there was a huge gain in homeownership?
could it be that, we are still an immigrant nation and accepting huge numbers of households into the equation dilutes the effects of tax cuts overall?

or perhaps those that benefit most from the tax cuts (the entrepeneurs) have tax structures that are not exposed to ordinary analysis and breakdown according "income", in other words, they are busy building net worth and passive income that employs strategies to avoid income disclosure. Legally.

Posted by: Legion at October 1, 2009 2:46 PM

Ok, then "Bush years"

I can't believe someone as smart as you seem, Dave would be defending someone who was so incredibly destructive to this country. Not him alone, but under his watch.

Posted by: 11217 at October 1, 2009 2:46 PM

Tax cuts are not 'spending', nor do they 'cost' anything.
It's simply that the money stays in individuals pockets rather than going to the government.
I hate the way that bureaucrats distort the language Tax cuts may be a 'cost' to a bloated government but they are not to the individual.

Bush's problem was his record on public spending, not his record on taxes.

Posted by: etson at October 1, 2009 2:47 PM

Posted by: Legion at October 1, 2009 2:48 PM

have to agree as well that it's nonsense to blame the current situation on a single person. bush gets scapegoated for everything bad that's happened in the last 10 years. the problem is that it detracts attention from the very real things that he did wrong. blaming bush for everything is lazy and irresponsible. that's why awful mistakes get repeated throughout history.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 2:49 PM

"Bush's problem was his record on public spending"

And personal freedoms
And spending billions on a war by lying about it
And by stating that climate change doesn't exist
And rallying the country to shop for useless Chinese imports to get us through a terrorist attack
And
And

But I'll stop. I can't talk about politics here. It's just not a good medium for it.

11217

hold on there, you are painting with an incredibly broad brush. your contention that the Bush years were "incredibly destructive" is your own opinion and perspective. let the historians decide a few years from now.
I don't agree with many of his policies, but he kept this nation safe for 7 years through a very difficult period. Ask yourself what he inherited from Clinton. Or more specifically, what Sandy Burger (former NSA director)would risk his reputation and legacy for,by stealing documents from the national archives. Must have been something pretty important and damaging.

Posted by: Legion at October 1, 2009 2:54 PM

I do agree with 11217's comments though. But when I say Bush, I really mean his administration- Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et at were all involved in the direction this country took- and a disastrous one it was.

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 2:55 PM

i know, right? bxgrl? it's like nobody wants to be held accountable from the highest of politicians to the average citizen. in a way we're all culpuable. i think barney frank is hilarious but it offends me greatly that he had a LOT to do with the housing affordability issues. or people who don't vote. aaaaaaaaagh!!!

11217, i appreciate what you're saying. quite frankly i find the presidential bashing on both sides over the past 15 years or so ill-informed and gross. i'm probably a bit more converative politically than most in NYC but i am totally not down with the ridiculousness of the obama bashing. i think most people find a lot of it offensive regardless of their political affiliation.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 2:57 PM

Sorry, Legion- I really take issue with the idea that Bush "kept this country safe for 7 year." Nothing could be further from the truth. 11217,
again, on climate change, the conservative perspective is this: there may be climate change occurring, but as a consequence of natural heating and cooling cycles, not as a consequence of a man-made problem.

The IPCC, international panel for climate control, is full of politics and not entirely trustworthy.
Look up the internal panel of scientists who have signed a petition against the idea of man made global warming. The petition now numbers over 31,000 scientists. It comes out of the University of Oregon.

see my discussion last week about polar ice cap melting and it's effects on slowing the earth's rotation, interstellar radiation and costal land subsidence and cummulative hurricane strength over the past decade.

then get back to me.

Yes, this. :)

And p.s. If you want to give credit to Bush for "keeping us safe for 7 years," so far Obama has a better track record because Bush DIDN'T keep us safe from 9/11/01 and Obama just kept us safe from this:

bxgrl,

the president usually gets the blame for attacks occurring under his watch. after 9/11 attacks, which the 9/11 commission basically attributed to a lack of communication between the FBI and CIA, occurred during a time when Bush was still in the process of setting up foreign policy and goals.
This is why I bring up the Sandy Burger incident. What is speculated, is that he basically stole his personal notes, disclosing the level of threat being ascribed to Bin Laden and how this was communicated to the Clinton Administration. The rest is history.
what we do know, is that the Bush administration stopped several known and credible threats to our nation during this time period.
He also gave more to the impoverished than any other president in history. look it up.
He also expanded the Medicare benefit to include drugs, the largest entitlement expansion since LBJ. that should be lauded by the left.

lol, that UN "report" is based on the IPCC report. that same organization which willfully discounted contradictory scientific evidence including large samplings of historical heating and cooling data, and tectonic subsidence information from their coastal samples of water level rise.

what do you think I'm talking about.

Besides, do you seriously give the UN credence in anything they say at this point?
that is, after hearing their reception to Ahmedinajaad, who denies the Holocaust occurred?
who has Libya on is Security Council?lol

Posted by: Legion at October 1, 2009 3:18 PM

the problem with trying to pinpoint the causes of climate change is that the earth is not a static environment. over the past 100,000 years we had a major ice age, continental shift, etc. The world is constantly changing, tectonic plates moving, changes in grantiational forces, the sun going through its own life cycle, etc. Man's effect on the earth compounds these thing. I don't know if big business is as bad as many of the other things though. A lot of damage is caused by dams, or filling in marshes, or replacing shoreline beaches (with trucked in sand, wtf is up with that ish?). it goes back to the issue of personal responsibility. it's easier to blame big business for environmental destruction but in reality it's a lot more complex than that. if we torched every single factory on earth, the climate would continue to change a lot faster and in a more meaningful way than people think it would.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 3:19 PM

slopefarm - you're generally pretty articulate on contentious issues. if people have strong beliefs and the subject comes up then they should do what?

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 3:21 PM

ok, so from what I am hearing,
many here are democrats dissatisfied with their local democratic leadership,
Patterson
Silver
Rangel
etc.

does this tell you something?

maybe we need some change in NY?

either way, politicians are slimy. we need more accountabilty.

Posted by: Legion at October 1, 2009 3:22 PM

Sorry, but I honestly had no idea that educated people were still trying to refute the causes of climate change. From everything I've read, heard, believe, etc it is most certainly becoming more of a problem due to humans.

I truly thought that the people saying this is a natural progression are the same people who follow Sarah Palin's every move. (i.e. the not very educated portion of our population)

Ah well. In any event, something needs to be done to clean up this planet.

Anyone been watching the Ken Burns series about National Parks on PBS this week??

SOOOO good.

Posted by: 11217 at October 1, 2009 3:24 PM

Legion- not for nothing but the FBI, CIA and secret service (and NYPD0 were responsible for stopping attacks. giving Bush credit for that is like giving Giuliani credit for "saving" us after 9-11.

I would like to see the stats on how much he gave to the impoverished because it seems like he helped create more of the impoverished with his administration.

Your last comment was very funny- i guess you think us left of center types are all on drugs ;)

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 3:26 PM

cg,
you have it right. climate prediction is a chaotic science, in which the variables are too complex to predict. like economics.

we can't predict the weather with any certainty beyond 7 days, and yet we are suddenly asked to believe without a doubt that we are doomed to swim with the fishes.

and pay taxes to mitigate this prediction.

yeah, right.

a basic understanding of earth sciences reveals that the earth like a living organism responds to variables in different ways. If a person lives in a low oxygen environment like Denver, they acclimate by increasing red blood cells.
from an historical perspective, the presence of oxygen in the atmosphere was a toxic addition to the gaseous make-up of the ecosystem. yet life prospered despite the poisonous gas being produced by plant life , namely oxygen.

bxgrl,
no doubt, the men and women on the ground. on the front lines of the FBI, CIA and NYPD are to be given credit for these successes. but the mandates come from above. from the Attorney Generals and Justice Departments who are put in place by the President.
Look at this new Attorney General who wants to go after CIA and FBI individuals in order to blame them for policies from above. this is dispicable.

11217,

you can't get away so easily, to say those that don't agree with your contention are the uneducated is exactly what is wrong here.
you owe it to yourself to look at both sides, before you make these sweeping statements.
Look up the opposing views on this climate debate, look at all the forces involved and the consequences.

no one is saying we can't do better for the environment, but we have to allocate resources responsibly and intelligently. not just because Gore said so and Sean Penn agrees.

Re Climate Change & scientific opinion:
I had a longish conversation with a fellow alum of my old college who is now an Oceanography professor at an event a few months back.
She said that man-made climate change is still open to legitimate debate, but a large majority of scientists believes it is happening. Her own view is that it is very much man-made & that rising sea levels will be the most important consequence.
For some reason the scientists who most vehmently to disagree with man made climate change often seem to be meteorologists.

Of course even if one believes in man made climate change, there is the question of the utility of making dramatic changes at this point. In other words, if teh trade off turns out to be large scale economic contraction now for relatively small changes in climate later is it worth it? Could anything material now realtistically be done anyway?

I am not a scientist (of course!). But the science is only the starting point for the policy debate anyway.

Posted by: etson at October 1, 2009 3:37 PM

I've looked at both sides, Legion and to be honest...the more I hear the other side, the more firmly I know that I believe in my side.

I think a better question is, why you don't care about climate change or really anything as you suggest above.

I know you think you're so cool for not caring about anything and that people here have made you out to be a hero because of it, but I just think you're quite sad (as in depressed) and need help with therapy, medication or a combination of the 2.

Not caring about anything is the first sign of depression.

-thirty year bond done

Ask the 'man in the street' if he's better off today than he was in 1999.

BTW, Clinton DID try to deal w OBL, he launched a cruise missile strike into Afghanistan that missed him by an hour. Do you think there would have been support here or elsewhere for a full-fledged invasion of Afghanistan just after the Russians were booted out?

My list would be topped by other things but climate change is also not very high up for me either.

And, it's clear from this discussion that no one is arguing from a standpoint of factual confirmed information.

benson, I've noticed more female engineers here lately, in fact I'm friends with one who has her structural license and is going for her arch license. If she achieves that she will be one of the few women in NYS with both a PE and a arch license (forget the suffix for that) and she may be the only Hispanic.

I've also noticed a lot of engineering types from China. I've seen them at trade shows and they're definitely promoting and discussing products, they're not models.

11217,

hey, that's ok that you don't agree with any of the points I have put forth here today.
you brought the debate on by implying there was no legitimate opposing view.
As I have stated, there most certainly is.

Benson is right about the fact that, if there is indeed warming going on what can feasably be done and to what benefit?
I read something about how the human species actually flourished during a great period of meltdown about 10-20,000 years ago. when the Sahara was an oasis. just saying. there is much to this issue besides:

Posted by: dirty_hipster at October 1, 2009 4:54 PM

that looks like the really prolific posters are all hanging over there cause I'm sure we have more posters here

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 4:58 PM

just rewatching season 1 of Dexter. What a great series!

Posted by: the chicken at October 1, 2009 5:00 PM

Probably similar amt actually

Posted by: dirty_hipster at October 1, 2009 5:02 PM

What's blog has that many posts?

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:02 PM

ohi yes i forgot about big brother! i love that too and am passionate about it every summer. i was upset that idiot jordan won this summer tho. anyway, i do not say things "for effect" like you say, i say what i feel and am brutally honest about my opinions, lots of people are. also i do not think i am any different in person than i am on here, it's not like im going to express my opinions about random topics discussed am i? well that didnt make sense, but you know what i mean. i dont "DO" an online persona, this is who i am. and since when has it been a crime not to care? jeez.

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at October 1, 2009 5:05 PM

More pathetic or more prolific?
(I'm on both, so definitely more pathetic in my case)

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:07 PM

who is over there? are they there because they are avoiding here?

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 5:10 PM

rob, what did you eat today for your hunger strike?

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:10 PM

who has the time for two blogs? i feel like enough of my day is unwillingly sucked up by this one!

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 5:12 PM

m4l - It's the same as the big O talking to our foes as well as our allies.

Posted by: Arkady at October 1, 2009 5:12 PM

Rob, they are over there because they felt attacked and unwelcome here. Given I have no shame, feeling unwelcome has clearly not stopped me from continuing to post on Brownstoner.
:-)

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:13 PM

Wendy's :(

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at October 1, 2009 5:13 PM

brownjokester, that was FUNNY!

"who has the time for two blogs? i feel like enough of my day is unwillingly sucked up by this one!"

CG_ups, tell me about it. If I ever get any work to do here at The Death Star, I might have to cut it back to posting on one blog all day long.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:16 PM

Wait, so people who felt attacked and unwelcome here defected to a blog written by someone who's passion in life (at least internet life) is to attack and be unwelcome to others? (and racist?)

The plot thickens...

Posted by: 11217 at October 1, 2009 5:17 PM

m4l - It's the same as the big O talking to our foes as well as our allies.

Posted by: Arkady at October 1, 2009 5:12 PM

I beg to differ. big O is schmoozing to bring forth better relations. my issue is not the folks there but the blog host who has ripped into friends on this blog. I see no effect to bring forth better relations from that host to MM, bxgrl,.... in my eyes, that's fraternizing with the enemy

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 5:17 PM

- Wendy's :(

Well maybe tomorrow you'll do better on the hunger strike and get McDonald's.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:18 PM

11217, ROFL! You really ought to come hang out with us.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 5:19 PM

"I request that we impeach the prez"

Can you please? Posting pathetically and prolifically on two blogs and carrying out my responsibilities as PLUSA prez is getting to be very time consuming.

"fraternizing with the enemy is treasonable act"

The enemy? Don't view them as the enemy. They just went somewhere they felt more comfy and welcome.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:19 PM

- feeling unwelcome

Tell me about it! I still haven't gotten that scripted welcome from Cobblehiller.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:19 PM

11217, ironic, ain't it.

You should take a peak. The What's actually been a very gracious host over there.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:20 PM

"Tell me about it! I still haven't gotten that scripted welcome from Cobblehiller."

brownjokester, hopefully her sabbatical will end soon and you'll get hooked up.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:21 PM

brownjokester, she's on holiday, but I'll leave a note for her in the office, and I'm sure she'll have your Welcome Kit ready for you when she returns.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 5:21 PM

And not everybody completely defected. Some (DIBS, DH, me, Kens, ENY, Jack, etc.) have been participating on both.

No biggie.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:23 PM

Someone (prez) ones to defect completely. The plot thickens indeed.
What is going on around here?

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:23 PM

The enemy? Don't view them as the enemy. They just went somewhere they felt more comfy and welcome.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:19 PM

don't get it confused. as I stated above, it's the blog host. it's like doing business with known terrorist.

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 5:24 PM

I think I need to get my buddies back into reading this site and start up the betting pool again.
I could try to win some more $.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:26 PM

Ironic, perhaps.

But has anyone thought that maybe the person/s comments (I didn't really read the mentioned slanderous comments, but only heard about them yesterday) may have been coming from The What...?

Or was that ruled out?

Now THAT would be the ultimate in irony.

Perhaps The What orchestrated this to get some traffic on his blog!

Posted by: 11217 at October 1, 2009 5:26 PM

Great CG, I'll look for the paperwork.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:27 PM

Thanks M4L- I don't get get it either but it is what it is. Like 11217, I don't understand the logic. He' already posted some heinous stuff about me, and I'm sure he will again. I feel no need to feed his ego or his power trip and for what it's worth, AL really wasn't that big a deal. What has said far worse to me and about me, and MM and others. If What can be ignored, AL certainly should have been- s/he was just a troll.

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 5:29 PM

11217, it's a fascinating theory, but The What has apparently been blocked from posting on this blog by Mr. B, so it is highly unlikely. Unless Mr. B and The What are somehow in cahoots, which would truly make this interesting.

M4L, listen to the always wise and prescient Arkady. It's all about blog relations. I'm channeling my inner Obama.

By the way, I'm off tomorrow. Don't get too excited thinking I've defected permanently.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:30 PM

And, jokester, I'm sure bxgrl will resume tiara production just as soon as the Crown Heights North House Tour is over.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 5:31 PM

"I'm off tomorrow"

As they say on Passover, Biff, why is this day different from all other days?

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 5:33 PM

C Gar- the production staff seems to have defected to the What's blog. ;)

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 5:33 PM

- By the way, I'm off tomorrow. Don't get too excited thinking I've defected permanently.

Shouldn't have said anything. There would have been a riot.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:33 PM

it's interesting to see where people's loyalties lie. or people who have no loyalty, which i've seen personally though in retrospect it shouldn't have suprised me.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 5:34 PM

11217--there is definitely some ironic intent to the newfound devotion to asshat hill.

Posted by: wasder at October 1, 2009 5:34 PM

But bxgrl, you yourself went to The What's blog and posted the other day. I believe you even exchanged pleasantries. Just saying. I don't really care and am not sure why others do either.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:35 PM

I hear you, Biff.

But perhaps it was one of What's minions who made the foul comments the other day.

I agree with Bxgrl on this one. Going over to The What's blog after some of the things he has said to some of the most respected Brownstoner commenters feels wrong.

But wrong in a silly, internet kinda way.

So far, no one's lost an eye.

Posted by: 11217 at October 1, 2009 5:35 PM

"wise and prescient Arkady" Wow! Biffers! Holy cow!

Posted by: Arkady at October 1, 2009 5:36 PM

I just looked at What's blog and my reaction:

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

But that's just me.

Posted by: 11217 at October 1, 2009 5:36 PM

biff - stop being disingenuous.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 5:37 PM

Okay, I can't stand it. Someone tell the story. Why the split? I can't read between the lines.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:37 PM

as they say, if you dont stand for anything, you'll fall for anything. "friends" is not a label I issue out loosely. So I draw the line on the fraternizing with the enemy who has shredded good friends here.

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 5:38 PM

CGar, ma nishtana!

jokester, that would have been good, but, as I said, I didn't want people to get their hopes up.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:39 PM

"But perhaps it was one of What's minions who made the foul comments the other day."

That's a very interesting theory. Truth be told, it could have been anyone. There are 1,500+ Brownstone Twitter followers. How many lurkers do you all suppose there are?

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 5:40 PM

this is so tiresome. people's behavior is so transparent. i don't know who everyone thinks they're fooling. the summer camp feel good vibes of the brownstoner from a year ago have evolved. groups have evolved. and people who were thought to be friends have proven themselves otherwise.
it's life. cripes. this blog has become work.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 5:43 PM

"C Gar- the production staff seems to have defected to the What's blog"

bxgrl, that's because the Mexicans and Asians keep following DIBS back and forth between the 2 blogs.

With Cobble on holiday, let me tell you it's not easy holding down the imaginary PLUSA office all by myself. Why do you think I've been posting so sporadically?

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 5:43 PM

"I agree with Bxgrl on this one. Going over to The What's blog after some of the things he has said to some of the most respected Brownstoner commenters feels wrong."

CG_ups, perhaps you missed the fact that bxgrl posted on the What's blog. Comments? Cobble posted there too. Who cares? It's a blog, for goodness sakes! I think this pettiness and sensitivity from a handful of folks is exactly what has turned some people off from posting here. Sometimes not everyone can get along with everyone. That's life.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:43 PM

biff- The only pleasantries I ever extended to What was in the beginning, like th first day. Everything after that was in reply to some of the really foul things he said about me and which he actually deleted. If someone is using my user name to post pleasantries on his blog (and it is easy to do on his blog), it ain't me. But I guess the obscenities he has said to me and Mm are ok?

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 5:43 PM

holy shiznit. everything on the OT goes on twitter?

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 5:44 PM

- I didn't want people to get their hopes up.

I doubt that. You are a very well liked and respected person around here. Heck, they made you president, didn't they!

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:45 PM

CG_ups, no, actually I'm not sure that ANYONE on the OT goes on Twitter. Mr. B had a post a few weeks back the day that Brownstoner reached 1,500 Twitter followers is all I'm saying. That's a LOT of Brownstoner readers . . . from whom WE should be collecting dues . . .

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 5:46 PM

I have a totally random question (and I apologize for missing it, but up until a few days ago, I rarely came to the OT) but CarrollGardened...are you a man or woman...? Inquiring minds want to know. Or one half of an inquiring mind, anyway...

Posted by: 11217 at October 1, 2009 5:46 PM

"But I guess the obscenities he has said to me and Mm are ok?"

I guess it IS ok in your eyes if you still went over there and posted on his blog.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:46 PM

i've had it with you biff. seriously, i defended you when i thought it was unfair for some anonymous shmuck to toss bombs, but you've really shown your true colors. you know what the difference is between her posting there once and you guys hanging out there enjoying whatever measure of superiority or exclusitivity that you need. this is me though. i'm not some anonymous person that is afraid to stand behind what they say. what i'm saying is that if you're trying to get people to ask you to stay then you'll be disappointed by the response.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 5:47 PM

"I doubt that. You are a very well liked and respected person around here. Heck, they made you president, didn't they!"

brownjokester, or so I thought until the last 15 minutes or so!
:-)

11217, thank you...please feel free to continue to ask random questions and change this ridiculous subject.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:47 PM

CG-ups - Where'd you figure that?

Posted by: Arkady at October 1, 2009 5:47 PM

jokester, we had a huge family fight on Monday, which is too painful to recount. You'll have to read Monday's OT (and, again, it was meant to be a quiet Day of Atonement) - I believe DIBS told *rob* to start around 2pm (just when everyone was getting out of Yom Kippur services I might add).

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 5:48 PM

biff- if you want to tell people I posted on his blog, you should tell the whole story. I posted there after you posted here he went after me in some thread he cut and pasted into his blog- I believe it was the curb cut blog. I have NEVER logged in or registered there and anyone can use my name there. All anons have to do is post as anon and type it in. My last "pleasantry" with him was a rather fierce exchange after he posted something obscene. Why would I want to associate or post on the blog of someone like that?

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 5:49 PM

Soooooooo, anyone wanna to hear a joke?

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:49 PM

arkady - i think you're referring to my twitter ignorance? luckily CG'ed clarified above. i was wrong, it doesn't go out on twitter. phew!

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 5:49 PM

"what i'm saying is that if you're trying to get people to ask you to stay then you'll be disappointed by the response."

Huh? Where on earth did you get the impression I was asking for that?

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:49 PM

You know what biff- go to hell. I'd tell you what you can do with Union Hall but I am sure your friend the What can be much more specific.

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 5:51 PM

I don't get the point of this "us" & "them". I've found What to be offensive so I don't go on his site but that other people do doesn't bother me. People eat brussels sprouts - I don't. I even get along w/ Republicans - but it doesn't mean I endorse their political tastes.
Not going on What's blog isn't going to change what's happened but nor is going on it saying you think he's a fine fellow.

Posted by: Arkady at October 1, 2009 5:52 PM

"Sometimes not everyone can get along with everyone"

Uhhh. Biff. A word?

[Stage Whisper] [As your Chief of Staff, need I remind you we have the midterms to worry about? . . . Yes, already!]

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 5:52 PM

Guys, let's dial it back a little here cause we're fighting among ourselves now. I might not like the fraternizing with the enemy but I don't necessarily believe Biff deserves this lashing either.

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 5:54 PM

Hey everybody.
Look at me. I'm doing jumping jacks. I look silly.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 5:54 PM

Perhaps this would be a good time to bring back guest posting...?

:)

Do you guys fight like this every day in the OT? Wow, I've been missing out!

It really IS like a family in here!!

Posted by: 11217 at October 1, 2009 5:55 PM

Por Favor, no fighting anymore.

11217, CarrolGardened is a man. A very nice man, may I add.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 1, 2009 5:56 PM

the fighting has only been this week pretty much. my bullshit tolerance is low though.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 5:57 PM

"CarrollGardened...are you a man or woman...? Inquiring minds want to know. Or one half of an inquiring mind, anyway..."

11217, you are totally cracking me up today. Go figure. I'm a man, but Dave is my team captain. But, I'm e-married to bxgrl. (Who cheats on me with Benson.) Though some here believe I'm a closet hetero. And I live with my dog in a tent on Cobble's and BH's deck. "Confused? You won't be after this episode of . . . SOAP!"

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 5:57 PM

bxgrl, apologies to you. I didn't mean to throw you under the bus or imply you are "friends" with The What. I do view you as a friend and was simply trying to show that a wide variety of folks have posted on The What's blog, here and other places. It was meant to be a positive example of how people can put aside differences (like you and benson have done many times) and still be civil. I really am sorry if I offended you. Not my intent whatsoever. I do consider you a friend and hope we remain that way.

CG_Ups, also don't completely understand why you're so pissed about this, but I always thought you were pretty cool and don't want to start any battles with those I like.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 5:57 PM

Is it that bad to let it get this ugly?
I thought you all were friends.

11217- Car Gar is my ehusband but I give him free rein :-) But you must be very very nice to him.

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 5:59 PM

arkady - the problem isn't going on the what's blog. people are free to be on whichever site they please. but it's disingenuous to come back and forth and not face up to the fact that the what said some REALLY awful things to people. it's like man up and say yah, the what may be a dickbag and he did insult lots of people but i like posting there. don't be an asshole and say well he didn't do anything wrong or but you did it too bullshit. different thing i think.

Posted by: CG_ups at October 1, 2009 5:59 PM

We almost sorted out global warming but the dueling blogs issue remains intractable.

Biff has not done anything bad to any of us so let's chill. we're making this sound like he's worst than WHAT and he aint. I don't like that he's hanging on that blog but that doesn't make him a bad guy rather we have a difference of opinion on that specific item - posting on that blog.

M4L- The What is no terrorist. Just spits fire. I was once told you never really learn to curse unless you drive in NYC. So grow a pair and stop crying in black and white. It's a massive world why not help him build the site?

Lastly remember that line "there's a fungus among us"? Well "us" meaning youz not me. You people are in denial Al is right.

jack slade, let's agree to disagree on how we view WHAT's treatment of folks I view as friends here. you aint going to convince me he didn't say that nasty stuff to them with very bad intentions. I certainly aint trying to convince people to agree with my view of it rather just stating my own position on it.

that said though, reaction to Biff was uncalled for. I apologize for triggering the reactions / posts hence why this tight wad chinaman is willing to b bu buy some drinks to smooth things over at the gathering.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 6:14 PM

in case some of you heavy drinkers get the wrong f'ing impression, the free drink offer is only to the combatants - biff, cg_ups, & bxgrl

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 6:17 PM

11217, too bad. wanna fess up your email address (feel free to create a pseudo one just for brownstoner) and we can email you if we ever have a smaller impromptu drinks at some point after October 15th.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 1, 2009 6:18 PM

perfect example ^^^^. Like you really are a new poster give me break.

Posted by: jack slade at October 1, 2009 6:18 PM

I'm a one-blog woman. I stand by my blog. I admire The What's devotion to fire arms, however. That's hot.

If I were a gay man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a gay man.
I would have to work hard.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
If I were a biddy biddy gay,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man.

oh m4l, you rabble rouser. you're just hoping i stay bitchy tomorrow so that you can be amused. :P

Arkady- I don't care if people post over there or not. That's their perogative. My beef is with biff using me (of all people) to paint What in a positive light. And again, with all the stuff that What said to me, and MM and plenty of others- well, like cg ups said, they shoud man up to what he is. And I still want someone to explain how whatever AL said could have possibly compared to What telling me I've (pardon my french- I am quoting) that I've sucked Black dick, here's another. APOLOGIES to everyone for posting that, I'm quoting.

I'm not condemning anyone for posting there. I just don't get why he gets a free pass on stuff he's said.

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 6:19 PM

"I don't like that he's hanging on that blog"

m4l, I never would have thought I'd call you another voice of reason ; )

I don't like that Biff is hanging on that blog either. He has less time for us, and our post count is way down as a result.

My virgin ears, Bxgrl.

Posted by: Sarah Palin at October 1, 2009 6:21 PM

11217 you're not one of those gay men who thinks that with enough drinks, any straight men could become curious are you? That doesn't speak volumes of you, you know :o). I have plenty of gay friends and even they consider those type of "gay men" sad. Not a single one of my gay friends tried to hit on me ever. It would be very weird if they did.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 1, 2009 6:22 PM

"As in, Don't Drop the ...?"

11217, I'm aging myself. As in the late 70s sitcom starring a young Billy Crystal and a truly phenomenal cast.

Is Sarah Palin one of the posters on the What's blog?

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 6:23 PM

CG_ups, I can't believe you left without commenting on how much you love my charming [wink].

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 6:24 PM

etson, we missed you by the way. I hope I can make it to the Union Hall and have a drink with you. If not, I'll schedule some small gathering later on in a month.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at October 1, 2009 6:25 PM

brownjokester- the second line should be:
ya ha ya da da da deedle deedle deedle deedle dum . There are no bubbas :-)

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 6:25 PM

c-gar, netflixed soap over the summer, wasn't as funny or absured as I remember, very disapointed.

Posted by: DeLepp at October 1, 2009 6:26 PM

Sarah Palin- apologies! Are your ears truly virgin? After all those kids? ;)

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 6:27 PM

I loved SOAP- often wondered how it would hold up today

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 6:28 PM

THL, any chance of you creating an OT on your blog?

chew on that a little and we can discuss, if any relevance, tomorrow.

later.

Posted by: more4less at October 1, 2009 6:29 PM

- There are no bubbas :-)
Are you sure? I've been to Middle America.

I blame it on Cut and Paste from a lyric site.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 6:30 PM

Bxgrl, please don't make me give you the birds-and-the-bees talk in a public forum. Suffice it to say, ears are not involved.

[wink]

Posted by: Sarah Palin at October 1, 2009 6:30 PM

I actually have to leave (and not because the OT is beginning to resemble Bosnia-Herzegovina in August 1914). I'm pathetic enough to finish reading this late tonight. Can I just add, DH also cracks me up all the time, and jokester you're right at home here!

Posted by: CarrollGardened at October 1, 2009 6:31 PM

Last post and then I'm out. Thanks to those who had kind things to say about me above.

bxgrl, I didn't mean to use you to paint What in a positive light. That wasn't my intention and again, I'm sorry. My point was to show that many people have posted over there regardless of their "relationship" with The What. Me (and everyone else) posting there is not meant to condone everything he has said or done. I've even asked him to stop personally attacking you and MM after he and I stopped our cyber battles. And please remember that in the past, he and I used to say things to each other that was at least as bad, if not worse than what he has said to anyone else. We put that aside because I think it was draining us both and just being totally counter-productive. Anyway, I really didn't mean to offend you or give him a "free pass" for past comments.

Before I posted here this afternoon, I was looking for activities to do for a child's birthday party, which I am having for one of the Champettes this weekend. I should have stuck to doing that!

Brownstoner is my still my blog of choice and I've made tons of friends here and I hope to remain friends with all of them. See you all on Monday.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 1, 2009 6:33 PM

- and jokester you're right at home here!
I'd feel more at home if I was wearing the Tiara.

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 6:34 PM

- Brownstoner is my still my blog of choice.

My My!

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 6:37 PM

btw my arrows were meant for jokester.

Agree M4l.BUT the fact remains that The What and Dibs have battled it out saying all sorts of things to eachother. But they still put aside thier diffrences and move on to the next thread.

You keep saying "friends" when A Lurky is one of those friends that you approve. He or she broke bread with youz but hid under another alias to let his/her true feelings out.
How grimey is that?

Bx I'll say it too, you were over there joking around even made a joke about The What's issues with MM.
Grow up people and we can all see in. There's no tints on the stoner bus or to quote The What on "The short bus"

(Star Gate closes and leaves small nuke behind!)

Cupid's Arrows?

Posted by: brownjokester at October 1, 2009 6:40 PM

THis is weird. I like the what, and took most of what he says with a grain of salt. But I have no inclination to waste yet more time on another blog. If I did, I'd go back to curbed.

Posted by: denton at October 1, 2009 6:40 PM

Biff, that was an elegant and moving speech. I seem to recall that you are off the charts liberal. That would most likely preclude you from being my running mate in 2012. Though Palin-Champion has quite a ring to it. And I gather you are quite the looker, as am I. Would you consider taking up gun-toting and moose hunting to further your political career? Have your people call my people.

[wink]

Posted by: Sarah Palin at October 1, 2009 6:41 PM

brownjokester- was it an authentic Jewish site from one of my people? Otherwise you can't get the correct ya das and deedles and bums..er...dums. I should refer you to the true resident Hebraic experts, Car Gar and biff. I'll supply you with a grain of salt, however :-)

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 6:43 PM

Wow--what the hell happened in here today? I am not going to get into who is or isn't an ass for posting on What's blog. I went over and paid my respects (with a certain amount of tongue in cheek intent) but I don't really feel like being a regular there. I am a regular here and that's fine for me. Biff is my friend, bxgrl is my friend, etc. Biff is right that nobody is going to get along all the time and I don't really understand why this schism exists right now but I do know it has driven away my friends and that bums me out. People can post whereever they want and that's OK. I would suggest that if there are people posting over there and not here for some reason other than whimsy they could explain what they are mad about or avoiding. But otherwise, lets pull our heads in here.

Posted by: wasder at October 1, 2009 6:49 PM

jack slade- I tried once or twice in the past to put things to rest with What. After the last attacks I totally gave up. I give things a chance but you can only get slapped down so many times. You can post over there as much as you want but I'm done trying. And i will sate this for everyone- if you see my name over there on a post- it isn't me.

Posted by: bxgrl at October 1, 2009 6:53 PM

The nuke was actually a Iranian piñata !?! Go figure.

Wasder, Why are they mad? We've all read a zillion times "What! get your own blog". So why the animosity now?

I think he played his position well here, and B's penalty cardboard box could not silence him. I dont mind checking for 2 blogs... especially if one is from B's arch nemesis. The Curb reference can’t compare.

Bx, I think you could have made your point earlier without writing verbatim. Is it fleet week already? That was pornographic coming from a lady. Grrrrr!
To me you showed the world that on the fly you can write or repeat those words in all it's glory.
SO, next time fight fire with fire or don’t get too personal.
I don’t buy that martyr crap on a blog.

I saw those posts on The What's site, then the post about the witch hunt it looked like he moved on and was praising your efforts.

Posted by: jack slade at October 1, 2009 10:57 PM

jack- You've got some seriously screwed up priorities if you are more concerned with me quoting him than you are with the fact he said that to me.

I was told some of the things he was posting about me, I answered him. He deleted those replies. I posted what was actually an ironic comment but I am not on his open thread or making a home over there like some other people. FYI- since you seem rather innocent as to how What operates- he wasn't praising any efforts of mine, he was trying to use my disagreement with Jon on the curb cut thread to bash Jon. You really need to do your research before you make some of these inane pronouncements.

And that's the last I'm going to comment on asshathill except to say I'm sure you'll be very happy over there. It really suits you.
