Kudos, Sorta, from The Village Voice
The Village Voice Best of NYC 2009 awards are out and Brownstoner.com has gotten the nod in a category called "Best Place to Vent Your Renter's Rage." Judging from the explanatory text, the pricing widget (which The Voice calls "a fun little experiment in anger management") played a big part in bringing home the gold. Check out the description of how a hypothetical widget session plays out on the link.

Well, they're not wrong. Except for the part about the Prospect Expressway being elevated.

Yes, hardly the Nobel prize...

"reader appraisals are about 15 percent lower than the final sale price. So it's not working yet. But we're the sane ones, people. Keep at it." -- Very funny.
Yes, FLH, you wouldn't get much light or air in a house under the Prospect. $1.8m would be waay too high.

"the Nobel prize"
Mr. B;
Don't set your sights so low. Go for an award that still has meaning.
Posted by: benson at October 22, 2009 11:49 AM
Well played, benson ;)

Please see the New Yorker's recent piece about the different Nobel Prizes out there: http://bk.ly/Qw.
While some, like the ones for the various sciences, do require hard evidence of success, others, including the Peace prize, have always been based on "softer" characteristics (and the literature prize seems to be the most overtly political in its concentration on authors from "developing" countries).
How easy it becomes to knock an amazing program based on one's ignorance and dislike of our President. Useless snarkiness and sour grapes.

babs- maybe benson got confused and meant the Nobel Prize for Literary Fiction. Hmmm...benson's a contender :)

Funny, benson, even though we've disagreed on this point. See today's Doonesbury for a different take on when the award was devalued (cough Kissinger cough).

No such thing as bad publicity - one of the best things about this blog is the number of ADULTS who read it, as in people who are mature and older and have a length as well as breadth of experience.
The Village Voice in my observation is something young and self-labelling alternative people read. I certainly don't think the BEST "elevator speech" aspect of this blog is that the widget allows venting. There could be much else to rave about. The interns who write these snippets basically just describe places, people, and things they've come across on their own in their daily so-called-exuberant lives.
But in circularity, no such thing as bad publicity.

easy babs. i like obama and i think the npp was a) a joke, and b) something that makes life more difficult for bho (not our resident 50% off version).
i wouldn't consider the program "amazing" nor benson (or me) "ignorant" for ridiculing the decision and i think it's actually possible to criticize a decision without it all coming down to "dislike of our President."

Oh, the blurb was funny. Lighten up people.

Yeah, I thought it was funny. And accurate. To me, the brownstoner widget reflects what that poster would OFFER, not what she/he think the house is worth, nor what the house will ultimately sell for.

Coincidentally it also got awarded the "best place in ny to argue about the origin of meatballs"

ROFL, DH!
Slopey, big Doonesbury fan here!
I'm with mopar - the blurb was funny.
