Streetlevel: Laytner's Latest Location is in the Slope

laytners%20102009.JPG
Collective sigh of relief, Park Slope: Word came in from a reader that "no more trips up to the Upper West Side for comfy if expensive sheets" are necessary because the fourth outpost of Laytner's Linen & Home is opening on Union Street between 6th and 7th avenues. And so it is. The banner outside the future store says it's slated to be business sometime this fall. The interior of the space is looking mighty raw right now, but workers were busy trucking in building materials yesterday. GMAP

it's a great addition to the neighborhood.

snappy, you can buy all your sheets in the hood :-)

their website is terrible. does anyone know if they have nicer stock in the actual store?

Posted by: CG_ups at October 14, 2009 2:56 PM

Great news! CG, they have a nice selection and the store on the UWS had great sales. In addition to linens the UWS store also had useful bed/bath/entertaining items and some furniture. It's not as high-end as Gracious Home but good quality.

All the posts I see about what new businesses we should have here, no one ever suggested this! "high end bedding store." I will shop there as I replace my sheets every year pretty much.

"as I replace my sheets every year pretty much."

Really???? Why

Posted by: fsrg at October 14, 2009 3:50 PM

'Cause summer sheets get all gross after one humid brownstone summer.

Posted by: infinitejester at October 14, 2009 4:25 PM

'cause he wears them out with all the action.

Sounds great - another store with overpriced merchandise wrapped with status appeal. Will do well.

Posted by: Petebklyn at October 14, 2009 4:34 PM

or maybe he doesn't believe in washing them - so considers sheets disposable.

This place would've been more suitable for a Buy Buy Baby (let the big box store supporter flaming commence)

Posted by: Gosha at October 14, 2009 4:39 PM

More the latter than the former I'm afraid!

Posted by: infinitejester at October 14, 2009 4:39 PM

It would have been perfect for BuyBuyBaby. If only it were about 20,000 - 30,000 SF bigger.

Sorry to disappoint but not much status appeal to be found at Laytners (unless you are blown away by a $20 shower curtain). I shopped there regularly when I lived on the UWS-- the prices are good and the staff very helpful-- I think it's a great addition to the neighborhood.

Are their bedding prices comparable to C21?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at October 14, 2009 5:12 PM

Snappy - 600 count queen, 2 sheets & 2 cases - $60. Excellent quality, durable.

Posted by: Arkady at October 14, 2009 5:17 PM

Ok...that sounds right about in line with C21. Guess I'll have to check this place out.

I read in the Eagle this 15,000 square foot building recently sold for $4M. My first reaction was, this could be quite the home for someone who wants a lot of space and, possibly, a multi-car garage.

Posted by: altervoce at October 14, 2009 5:28 PM

I had a doctor in this building who was pushed out when the owners wanted to condo-ize it (at least I think that was there plan). Anyway, it sat empty for years and years and the front is not kept up any more. I certainly hope Laytner's can make a go of it.

If you buy quality sheets, they will last like 15 years.
I don't know what thread count you are buying for summer sheets to last 1 season, I also do not get Humid brownstone????
