Pete, did the Times stop you from drinking with us, too?

Seriously, the kitchen looks great and is exhibit A next time someone posts a query about Ikea kitchens.

Hey thanks for the kind words - I'll have to make it to the next Bstoner gathering for that beer.

Great to see you guys back! Love the kitchen!

I think that's a nice looking kitchen - definitely the style of cabinet I'd pick.

does the microwave have a fan on the bottom? what would you do about cooktop fumes/grease?

Posted by: goat at October 20, 2009 4:37 PM

it looks really good, nice job. i have to re-do a kitchen at some point and was thinking along these lines. was wondering what people think about other appliances? maybe white instead of stainless, or is that white overload. would do a color backsplash i think though. maybe a sea glass light blue glass tile. ideas?

Posted by: CG_ups at October 20, 2009 5:03 PM

we kinda wished we had done a more colorful backsplash too, or at a contrasting color, but decided we'd fill the space with color thru art and curtains and that sort of thing instead.

Microwave does have an exhaust fan built in which vents to the outside.

So cute, love it!

You should be on the house tour next year!

CG ups - yes, you can do something besides stainless. i think that the whole over the top appliance thing can make sense but typically unnecessary. white, btw, can be great - a friend bought a condo with fairly high end stuff, but all white, and really it looks terrific. if i had to do my own kitchen, i would try to find bargains because i don't care that much. some of this high end thing seems more about resale than actually cooking.

Yeah... not that I don't love this kitchen (it's beautiful), but I have a feeling that stove/oven is worth more than me. There's a dishwasher in the island I hope... right? Oh man, how I yearn for a dishwasher again.

One day! Gots to get me some lotto tix!

Great kitchen....is it IKEA?

Posted by: argentina at October 20, 2009 10:54 PM

Why, indeed it is Ikea! See more detail over on Bed Stuy Reno blog, which Brownstoner linked to in the post above.

By the way, the oven and range-top are Ikea appliances, not even on the same planet as say Viking or Wolf. They just look nice, and function well. (And they're inexpensive as far as these things can go.)

The fridge and dishwasher (yes, we have one) were "Best Buys" picked straight from the pages of Consumer Reports - in other words, appliances where you get the most bang for limited buck.
