Old and New Collide.....If the stickballers want to come to bed Stuy i think it'd be a great time. Seems that cops here don't get all upset about stoop drinking....it'd be a great thing to watch with a few beers.

418 Macon Street for $500k is going to hurt comps

I'd be interested to see it in black and white too, some very strong lines with brilliant white contrasts

Dave,
My "fine art" photography will always be B&W film, printed in my darkroom. However I bought a DSLR several months ago for my neighborhood documentary work, for the Lefferts Manor Echo, the PLG Arts website, etc.--basically the sort of work where I'd previously have used film, scanned the negatives, but never printed them in the darkroom. I resisted "going digital" for years, but have found that I have no trouble separating these two aspects of my photography. I do enjoy using my Olympus DSLR, but it will supplement, not replace my Rolleiflex.

It's only the minimum opening bid, chicken. Not the actual sale price.

It's one of the nicest blocks in Bed Stuy. From propertyshark, it's a 4 storey limestone, 3464 sq. ft, last sold Jan 2007 for $312,000 which is not believable but it was an estate sale. PS doesn't show any outstanding indebtedness. Taxes are $3,200.

Bob- beautiful! Love your work but this is the first color photo of yours I've seen. We want more!!
Loved the stickball story (not so much the yuppie you-know-what). Sad that people have become so selfish and uncaring. If I had kids and it were me I'd be out there begging for stickball lessons. I love that they have reunions every year. We should all go next year and play too-

dittoburg,
How's this?

Not a proper B&W conversion; I just used "Desaturate", but IMO not too bad either

Bxgrl,
There was a link to all my PLG Arts mural photographs on Brownstoner a couple of weeks ago.I've since added many more:

not for nothing, but why do people fetishize stickball so much? i picture a stickball game and the only thing that comes to mind are emaciated little charles dicken's characters running around a dirty street with a mop handle.

Bob - I'm liking it, especially in "medium" format. The hat takes on a whole new aspect, the texture jumps out.

I know josef, but a bird can dream right?

Ahh, I see that Dennis Hamill is playing his usual shtick: class envy and resentment. We get it, Dennis, you and your brother Pete are "woiking men" from the old days. Please.
Oh by the way, Dennis, maybe you want to explain to the people why you spend your free time hanging around certain folks who have a "reputation", shall we say? You know who I mean Dennis, your pal who claims his full-time job is a music promoter.

That Hamill article is vitriolic, "yuppie scum", yuppie "sh**s". jeeze. And those stick ball players getting their knickers in a twist just becuase the police were watching them. What a bunch of wimps.

The auction of the Bed Stuy place on Macon is troubling ne. The house is beautiful (at least from the outside). The owner was Dave Walker who was tracgically killed just under a year ago. http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/brooklyn/2008/10/21/2008-10-21_nice_guy_landlord_slain_in_brooklyn.html
It seems pretty quick to me that a year after someone was killed that the city could move to auction both their properties (Macon & Hart). Given that this guy was only 47 and a corrections officer at one time, couldn't they track down somebody who was related to him?

dittoburg,
Thanks. What I've always liked about B&W is that it emphasizes texture and form.
