StreetLevel: Ghang Opens Court Street Outpost
Ghang, the Smith Street Thai restaurant, opened a new location on Court Street a few days ago in the old Miriam space. Appetizers (dumplings, summer rolls, calamari, etc) mostly run $4-$6; noodle dishes cost between $8 and $12; and curries run between $9 and $15. As the Cobble Hill Blog noted, unlike the Smith Street restaurant, the new Ghang is not BYOB. GMAP

Soo - pretty big space (rent can't be cheap). Pricey looking renovation and sounds like no liquor license. They're gonna have to sell a whole bunch of dumplings to even come close to making money.

nevermind - they have a LL

And right near Joya. Hmmm. Cafe Chile too and Lemongrass Grill. How many Thai (and pseudo Thai) do we need?

Hopefully they'll make this spot work after the fairly quick transition thru Hill Diner/Hill Restaurant/Miriam. Does seem odd to add another Thai option when the area is rather well-served including by Ghang's own spot a whole block and a half or so away... Maybe they don't plan to renew the lease on that one or someink.

that location is cursed. good luck. What I would prefer is a DollarTree.

Perhaps Brooklyn needs "thai-free zones" like they have for drugs around schools. I love Thai food, love Joya, but do we need one on every block?

btw -- as of last night lemongrass grill is "SEIZED" according to the large sign on the door. i don't know the details but it has something to do with taxation.
so although this area really doesn't need yet another thai restaurant, the total number of thai places on court street isn't any different than it was a week ago, assuming lemongrass stays closed :)

In my humble opinion, this is the best Thai food in the area. I waited the hour plus for a meal at JOYA to see what all the fuss was about and was very disappointed. The pumpkin curry at Ghang's is always perfect.

Why can't someone open a Korean or Vietnamese restaurant (a real one--not just sandwiches, like on Bergen or Atlantic) around here. Why always mediocre Japanese/Thai/Chinese?

Ate there yesterday evening. Delicious. Will go there again soon.
