Lots of people out for the holidays DIBS. I take it you don't need to atone for any sins?
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 9:29 AM
Let he who hath not sinned cast the first stone.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 9:33 AM
Today is a holiday?
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 28, 2009 9:33 AM
Yom Kippur, DH
Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 28, 2009 9:35 AM
Highest holy day - you're supposed to spend it all day in shul atoning for sins of the last year. (We used to call it "instant lent".)
Posted by: Arkady at September 28, 2009 9:35 AM
It's also the Feast of Immediate Seating.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 9:37 AM
That's pretty funny Arkady.
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 9:39 AM
"Let he who hath not sinned cast the first stone."
So now you're Jesus? Or did you spend part of the weekend with someone named Jesus?
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 9:40 AM
Anyone cutting off the heads of chickens??
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 28, 2009 9:41 AM
DH, this is the day where we pay lots of money to the synagogue to reserve a seat (unless you are already a member of the congregation), starve ourselves and ask for forgiveness for all the naughty things we did during the year.
I am a bad Jew though so I am at work and will be eating the whole day.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 28, 2009 9:42 AM
oh yeah - i forgot it was yom kippur - happy YK peeps!
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 28, 2009 9:45 AM
"Let him who hath not..."
Note that it doesn't say "her"...
Posted by: Arkady at September 28, 2009 9:50 AM
OK. You can be Lot's wife, Arkady.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 9:53 AM
Kens I suspect you have sinned much less than some of your fellow brownstoner jews. You don't strike me as a very sinny type.
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 9:54 AM
lechacal...we've seen him lust after other people's property and their wives. That's two right there.

Sorry, but you know I had to do it :) Good morning all. It's dead in here today.

Can't touch that, especially on a day of atonement, whether I'm Jewish or not.

Arkady...he's a bit mad at me...having a pill stuffed down his throat is not his idea of a good time. But, 'things' are firming up!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 10:13 AM
DH, I'm starting to wonder if you're from the Mid-West. Dude, all New Yorkers know the big Jewish holidays - ie you default to thinkt it's Jewish holiday when streets are surprisingly light
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 10:14 AM
DIBS, if bobojohn doesn't respond, I'll gladly take the other one off your hands. Chinaman is just more reliable for that kind of stuff
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 10:15 AM
LoL, m4l - Also, if it's alt side suspended it must be a Jewish holiday...
Posted by: Arkady at September 28, 2009 10:17 AM
Many years ago a friend was in town from Syracuse to visit his brother. They are both American born Chinese and the brother, my friend here in NYC had lived here for quite awhile.
The brother from Syracuse was late meeting up with us and said something about a parade or something and maybe it was "Jewish day."
His brother responded that this was NYC and every day is Jewish Day.

Riding my bike to work this morning from Cortelyou through Midwood.... it was almost like the beginning of the History Channel series "Life After People"!
Very quiet.

I sense ENY should be showing up soon so let me beat him to the punch:
- YANKEES WINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
- G-Men looks really good; about time run-game racked up 200+ yards
Jets look real good and if (big if) beat saints next wk, have to deem them #1 team in whole league
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 10:17 AM
Arkady...I did a wonderful thing with that sausage yesterday:
Grilled the sausage and cut into small bits
diced grape tomatoes
finely diced oven roasted garlic
finely diced scallions
grated parmesan cheese
balsamic vinegar
bit of olive oil
I dumped that over rotini
DELICIOUS!

Kens, are you the lone non-observer in the Kens clan?
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 10:20 AM
Snappy - It's probably too late for you to campaign for Best Recipe.
Great about the firm. How about the weeps?
Posted by: Arkady at September 28, 2009 10:20 AM
snappy, you diced the stuff on a nice new expensive blade or you just went & sharpened the old blades
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 10:21 AM
"Jets look real good and if (big if) beat saints next wk, have to deem them #1 team in whole league"
I agree, they looked unstoppable yesterday. New York sports teams are going to have an excellent autumn.
Posted by: infinitejester at September 28, 2009 10:24 AM
Weeps are still there...I think with antibiotics it's typical that things get a bit worse before they get better. He's sneezing more too.
M4L, I just used the old knives...still unsharpened. They do the trick for now.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 10:25 AM
M4L, I am the lone non observer in the Kens clan. Trains were empty today.
Lech, I am not much of a sinner so no need for much atonement except lusting over property (HOTD) and sexy latinas as Dave pointed out.

Rob, you got another tattoo?
Posted by: the chicken at September 28, 2009 11:19 AM
dave i have the word "SLAVEBOY" tattooed on my ankle. it was an inside joke, has nothing to do with S&M ick. i hate the tattoo and everything it's associated with so this weekend i went nutso on it trying to cut it off and scratch if off. insurance doesnt cover tattoo removal for some dumb reason. ugh i probably gave myself tetanus in the process lol. hopefully it's gone or just a big mess. luckily the tattoo 'artist' sucked and it looks like it actually says SKIVEBOY, and explaining what skiveboy could mean is probably worse than what SLAVEBOY is, tho id rather people just think it says skiveboy.
i cant get back to work.. too many days off in a row can get tedious.

Posted by: Butterfly at September 28, 2009 11:23 AM
Rob - Maybe you can start a new career - going around to high schools & showing your amputated foot from where you tried to remove a tattoo - thereby discouraging young people from having them in the first place.

rob, I once tried to correct a healed-over cut on my right hand, by scraping it with a sharp knife and laying the skin flat the second time. It's all healed now but I had to covert it with a weeping wound bandage for like 4 weeks.
---
All -- it turns out the elderly woman from the vurb cut thread last week is a friend of mine, and I've known her for three years, and we were seated next to each other at a dinner party Friday.
I was talking about Brownstoner and how we get together a lot. no one there really knows what a blog is or why people read them, so I began describing the curb cut thread and how we all argued but in reality we are chummy and all that. I mentioned the situation; everyone was listening; the elderly woman was helping clear dishes and she re-entered the room.
HER: "Oh, that same thing is happening on my block."
ME: "Really? What street do you live on?"
HER: "St. Mark's."
ME: "Number 97?"
HER: "Why, yes."
Then I had to reassure people I wasn't advocatin she get thrown out, which was not too successful I think. She mentioned an inspector had been there asking "where is the work being done??" apparently from my lame joke about the site being up.
Apparently the new owner is quite the Eurotrash type - read into that what you will.
Posted by: infinitejester at September 28, 2009 11:45 AM
IJ - So is she being thrown out against her will?
Posted by: Arkady at September 28, 2009 11:48 AM
"Apparently the new owner is quite the Eurotrash type "
Cocaine snorting unemployed faux artsy fartsy type?
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 28, 2009 11:51 AM
Yes, and people are in shock over it. She is VERY well connected; a grand dame type who goes to the Heights Casino and stuff like that.
Posted by: infinitejester at September 28, 2009 11:52 AM
come on, the OOP thread count is way too close
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 11:52 AM
IJ- is she doing anything about the eviction? She does have rights- and i am betting the homeowner is super p o'ed about the whole thing.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 28, 2009 11:54 AM
Jester, that lady has the sales proceed $$$ right? ie she can find another place to live and that it's a royal pain in behind she's getting booted in such a fashion
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 11:55 AM
for your own safety, i have to protest people doing tattoo and scar removal on yourselves. hopefully everything heals fine, but god forbid you get an infection and it can get really nasty. rob - maybe you can pull a johnny depp and get the tattoo changed into something else? might be less painful and cheaper than the laser removal. a lot of places specialize in this kind of tattoo coverup. flyrite on metropolitan avenue is great, very reputable.

bxgrl! happy rosh shoshonah (sp?). how do i buy advance tickets for the CHN house tour? thanks!
Posted by: CG_ups at September 28, 2009 11:58 AM
There is some action going on, yes. I didn't want to grill her too much as it seemed like a sensitive subject but she won't be going to the poorhouse.
Posted by: infinitejester at September 28, 2009 12:02 PM
Jester, presumably she made out like a bandit when she sold?
Posted by: the chicken at September 28, 2009 12:03 PM
I would say. I have learned quite a lot in the last few years about how rich people think and live, it's been quite fascinating.
Posted by: infinitejester at September 28, 2009 12:07 PM
cg ups- thanks! You can get advance tickets on the website or email me at bx2bklyn at g mail.com I'll give it to the committee. The website uses paypal. (for all you amzi lovers- he will be working the tour for us in a truly spectacular mansion) dave? dave?
Posted by: bxgrl at September 28, 2009 12:08 PM
1. Presumably she made out like a bandit when she sold the place
2. if she has a lease, then she has a lease.
If the new Eurotrash decorative asrtist owner is trying to pull a legal fast one on this woman as tenant, they don't know what they are getting themselves into.
Some lawyers will tell a client "Yes, you can do that." just to get the retainer and bilk them of money for a legal proceeding that is unwinnable...throwing a tenant out in NYC being one of the bigger unwinnable proceedings.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 12:09 PM
thanks bxgrl, just sent you an email! :) looking forward to the tour
Posted by: CG_ups at September 28, 2009 12:11 PM
rich people are just as weird and screwed up as anyone else. i think a lot of people outside of that world assume that it is problem free but money causes plenty more problems than it solves (sometimes)
Posted by: CG_ups at September 28, 2009 12:12 PM
Well, I hope it works out for her- as a senior I don't think she can summarily be kicked out, but I am not sure for a one family with a rental unit if those laws apply but i would still like to hear the other side of the story.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 28, 2009 12:13 PM
Apparently everything was planned, and intentional. And the tenant came home to an eviction notice and - get this - some of her belongings moved outside.
Posted by: infinitejester at September 28, 2009 12:13 PM
Money certainly doesn't buy happiness, but dammit I'd like to have some dough and try to buy it :-)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 12:14 PM
cripes, that sounds awful jester. that said, does she really want this discussed in detail on the website?
Posted by: CG_ups at September 28, 2009 12:15 PM
I'm amazed at the number of people ragging on this woman being an artist and actually making- GASP!- a living at it. Might help to remember that artists are not responsible for the real estate collapse- that would be you finance types who are looking down your noses at us artists.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 28, 2009 12:16 PM
Duh bxgrl - don't you know by now no young artists in Brooklyn actually MAKE money doing art. They are all entitled trust fund brats.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 28, 2009 12:19 PM
Annie Hall for Yom Kippur:
Mom Hall: How do you plan to spend the holidays, Mrs. Singer?
Alvy's Mom: We fast.
Dad Hall: Fast?
Alvy's Dad: No food. You know, to atone for our sins.
Mom Hall: What sins? I don't understand.
Alvy's Dad: To tell you the truth, neither do we.
Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 28, 2009 12:20 PM
hey now, let's not just blame the finance people. i love art! i even teach art to kids in my spare time. and my evil finance job let's me take the time off 6 weeks every semester to do it pro-bono.
Posted by: CG_ups at September 28, 2009 12:20 PM
LOL Go get em bxgirl!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 12:20 PM
IJ- she has a lawsuit right there- the landlord is not allowed to move anything. And cg ups- if there is a lawsuit, it would probably be much better if it weren't on a website being discussed. It does sound like the homeowner is a grade A, number 1 a**hole but when someone goes to such an extreme i want to know why. Even the lawyers would have told her there are laws you have to contend with. I hope she gets sued and loses a lot of money if in fact she is doing this to be a jerk.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 28, 2009 12:21 PM
Biff is in the ROTD thread talking about food.. Unrepentant sinner. Guess he won't come over here and mix with the goy.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 12:21 PM
I am conflicted about that too, CG_ups. BTW, I meant to forward that email to my hi.infinitejester account but I sent it out early in error. She told me to post about it, but I don't really want to get involved in a tenant-landlord dispute other than closing off some of the misconceptions here. Maybe I'm a total hypocrite ass jerkola for even talking about it, but for some reason I feel it's okay.
Posted by: infinitejester at September 28, 2009 12:22 PM
Ah CG ups- the collapse then is all your fault for teaching art to the entitled trust fund brats of financial folk. It's amazing- you killed 2 birds with 1 stone- I am in awe :-)
Posted by: bxgrl at September 28, 2009 12:23 PM
DIBS - i would suspect that biff is a little hurt by lechacal's comment in last week's open thread. it was a bit harsh. anyway, it's always kosher to talk about PIZZA!
Posted by: CG_ups at September 28, 2009 12:24 PM
uh, bxgrl, a little less posting, a little more atoning for your many sins with Benson last year
Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 28, 2009 12:24 PM
I think I had too much coffee this morning.
Happy Yum Kippur to my Jewish friends!
Posted by: benson at September 28, 2009 12:25 PM
bxgrl - my class is a mix of kids from the nearby projects, children of immigrants and nearby working class parents. when they ask me about working at the bank, they think i'm a bank teller. :)
Posted by: CG_ups at September 28, 2009 12:25 PM
is today yom kippur or rosh shashonah? i do know that september is the month of the biggest jewish holidays though i do enjoy the purim, with making all the candy goody bags. i helped my friend do them one year, fun stuff!
Posted by: CG_ups at September 28, 2009 12:27 PM
"i would suspect that biff is a little hurt by lechacal's comment in last week's open thread. it was a bit harsh"
Huh?? I have tangled with plenty of regulars, but never Biff. What did I say to Biff?
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 12:27 PM
Hey all. I'm at The Death Star but I am fasting. I figure if there is one thing I do all year related to my Judaism, it should be the thing associated with atoning for my sins. So I just finished some work and need to do something to keep me busy and thinking about anything but food! Of course, going to the ROTD to discuss pizza was a very bad idea.
Posted by: Biff Champion at September 28, 2009 12:28 PM
biff did I say something nasty to you last week?
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 12:31 PM
I agree with Lech. I don't recall ever having a run-in with him and he didn't say anything to me last week that I found offensive. If you're referring to the conversation about him having drinks with DH, I was totally kidding about feeling left out.
Posted by: Biff Champion at September 28, 2009 12:32 PM
Benson, if not for you, there would be no action on blog today. Hey, interesting to hear you don't like brownstones - was under impression you sold a brownstone b4 buying your current condo
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 12:32 PM
Biffy, isn't working as bad as eating on Yom Kippur? Should have taken the day off and played with Champettes.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 28, 2009 12:33 PM
there was a follow up comment that i thought was harsh, but as long as nobody else did then i'm glad to hear all is well with everyone.
Posted by: CG_ups at September 28, 2009 12:33 PM
"biff did I say something nasty to you last week?"
Lech, not at all and that is what made me feel left out the most! :-)
Posted by: Biff Champion at September 28, 2009 12:34 PM
"i would suspect that biff is a little hurt by lechacal's comment in last week's open thread. it was a bit harsh"

Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 12:27 PM
Lech, I'm surprised you're that gullible in believing that. even if you did offend Biff, he has thick enough skin to let it bounce off. Stare might be intimidating but not that perceptive
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 12:35 PM
Lech, I think CG is referring to you calling me a "super anonymous" person and fun to drink with in a group but not someone you would be comfy drinking with one on one because you don't know me. It didn't bother me. In fact, it was a nice change from typically being told I give out too much information! And I think you understand and appreciate my hesitance to give out a lot of personal details (given I have kids), so it's all good.
Posted by: Biff Champion at September 28, 2009 12:37 PM
CG, i also recall that follow up being a little harsh but then again didn't see lech's expression when he wrote it.
something about biff giving up his clark kent so lech would feel more comfortable hanging out with him.
Posted by: bitter retort at September 28, 2009 12:37 PM
Let me test Biff's thick skin.
- Biff is an idiot
- Biff is a stiff but not where it counts
- Biff is dreaming not dreamie
- Biff rigged the prez vote
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 12:38 PM
You mean how I said I wasn't inviting him out to one-on-one drinks b/c I don't know who he is? That's just fact, not meant to be offensive or anything. Happy to hang with biff at any of the larger gatherings and he's lots of fun to talk to.
Biff maybe we can have a big pretend blow-out fight sometime. Not on Yom Kippur though, that would proabably be wrong.
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 12:39 PM
Biff is not a very good President either, m4l.

And please remind your fellow program writers I need the updated text to finish the program layout - I can only spend so much time working on this before daddy's trust fund runs out and I have to go from graphic art and design to decorative painting.

M4L;
Yes, I should get a commission from Mr. B!
Prior to my present condo, I lived in a brick rowhouse that was built in 1928. When I bought it, I was taken in by its charm: parquet flooring was still intact, the plaster walls were in good shape,as was the molding and baseboards. I lived there for 16 years. It was a great block for my daughter to grow up on, as it was chock full of kids her age.
I'll tell you, though, that after having bought a new condo, I'll never go back. I have a life outside of sinking money into an old home! Sorry for the brownstone heresy, but's that's my thinking nowadays.

oh for fucks sake. does everyone have their panties in a royal PMS bunch today or what? i'm going to a temple to hang with the tribe.

oh, please please pretty please do it on YK. then biff can atone for his multitude of sins, including that one.
damn. i wasn't supposed to be reading or posting today, but this was too good to ignore.
Posted by: brighton beoch at September 28, 2009 12:41 PM
Hey, nobody is saying you should be spilling it on the board... my point was that I personally know who hipster is (at least I *think* I do) and he knows who I am and that's kind of a prerequisite to my sending somebody an email and saying hey let's go get drunk together.
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 12:41 PM
M4L, that's funny. Thick skin is still in place.
I can't say the same about the foreskin, however, hence my observance of Yom Kippur.
Posted by: Biff Champion at September 28, 2009 12:42 PM
Where is Brighton today? I was stuck at the shoe sections at Bergdorf and was scanning the staff there & memorizing their looks (so I can see if the 2 individuals I guessed is indeed her)
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 12:42 PM
Benson, I'm right with you in that targeted boat...I am no brownstone fan. Give me a wrinkled frame house in GH any day and watch me smile.

Where in the OT does it say you can't read/post on the OT during YK???
I'm Catholic and have read the Old testament and can't recall anything about Internet posting or chat. Nor does the Masoretic Text or the Talmud or the Tanakh.

Beoch and I have come here to save the day!
Lech, my social security number, bank account statements, personal memoires, professional letters of reference, family tree, University grades and last two years' worth of tax returns are in the mail. Tell me when you're free to go to the Brooklyn Inn. :-)
Seriously, if you do go for cocktails with a smaller group, I definitely trust you to keep my deets confidential.

Biff - just make sure your bank account routing number is in there. I know a guy in Nigeria who's going to make you rich.
I'm sure I can work you into some impromptu drinking. Whenever my current all-nighter hell ends that is.

"I think that means "to make something into an angle.""
Yes, that is exactly what I meant. Are you suggesting I am anything less than angelic? By the way, I think you meant "kerfuffle" and "subtle".

This from the COTD thread...
Has anyone else picked up on the little special secret entrance? Since it's two apartments attached together, there's a secret getaway through a closet in the master bedroom. Like a priest hole... in case you find yourself under attack by the protestants.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 28, 2009 1:18 PM
Arkady - the only logical inference from your post is that you are rich. If you are not then a study on you would not be worthwhile as it would be incapable of proving the thesis.
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 1:18 PM
Arkady...me too. I think we are hanging out in the wrong circles...we aren't meeting any billionaire sociologists in this asshat village :)

- Amused to Death (Roger Waters)
- Ana Ng - They Might be Giants
- Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares (don't know name of song)
- DJ Song (some kind of techno - but that's the name of the song)
- Walk on the Wild Side (Lou Reed) - actually listened to the whole thing, which is unusual
- Legend of the Fall-Offs (Busta Rymes)

Snappy, ATLR is a real person. I've met her. You may want to bust out your official welcome.
DOM, on the other hand, is an imposter.
Posted by: brighton beoch at September 28, 2009 2:48 PM
They were delicious THL...delicious and quite potent.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 2:48 PM
Oh, and DOM, please do not make any food references in the OT today. FOR SHAME.
Posted by: brighton beoch at September 28, 2009 2:49 PM
*blush* Beoch, the back of your head reads "I luurve your knit cap!*
Biff, What you've heard is all true.
Dirty and Bitter. The name of my new clothing line.
Posted by: ATLR at September 28, 2009 2:49 PM
I'm too grouchy to welcome real people. You'll have to wait for Cobble...she's got the script.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 2:50 PM
Benson, I like her too. I think she is kinda cute Milfage material.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 28, 2009 2:50 PM
Can all you sons-a-bitches stick to one freakin' screen name? Gadzooks, y'all are crazier than a rat in a tin shithouse!
Posted by: Todd Palin at September 28, 2009 2:50 PM
AAWWW, Kens, stop being grouchy. Are you fasting?
Posted by: brighton beoch at September 28, 2009 2:50 PM
Man I really need to brush up on my excel and learn some vlookups and macros. this would make my J-O-B sooo much easier. Would give me even more time on brownstoner.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 28, 2009 2:34 PM
yeah, that's how I'm able to hang out here all day. I highly recommend visual basics and macros for dummies books.
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 2:51 PM
ATLR, if I were allowed to drink water today, I would have just spit it out.
Posted by: brighton beoch at September 28, 2009 2:51 PM
There's no one as dirty and as old on here as me, except maybe Arkady & denton.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 2:51 PM
THL, what Snappy said. Great margaritas. Was it only 5 pitchers, Snappy, not 6?
Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 28, 2009 2:52 PM
I'm snacking on pretzels now.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 2:52 PM
yeah beoch, good thing I didn't listen to anything offensive this morning, like "A Lap Dance is So Much Better When the Stripper is Crying" by the Bloodhound Gang (they also did Fire Water Burn and Bad Touch, both instant classics).
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 2:52 PM
I was going to start posting, but what's the sense now?
Posted by: Thread Hijacker at September 28, 2009 2:53 PM
So in cat news...I watched after my neighbors cat this week while her mom's were away and I had to take a pic of her toes. She's a polydactyl or a 'Hemmingway Cat' and has a whole bunch of extra toes. Isn't this just adorable??

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 28, 2009 2:56 PM
THL, JUST WHAT WAS THAT KITTY LITTER CAKE???????????
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 2:56 PM
Dirty, I wish they would all blow you..it would be pretty quiet then.
Posted by: bitter retort at September 28, 2009 2:57 PM
"Cargar...was it 6? I so don't remember...I don't remember a lot of things :)"
ROFL, Snaps. I told you we need to start carrying real video cams.
Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 28, 2009 2:58 PM
Yep, I made that cake last year for halloween. The litter is ground up vanilla sandwich cremes and oatmeal cookies. You keep aside some of the cookies and dye them with green food coloring for effect. The dookies are tootsie rolls. It took 5 packages of cake mix 6 packages of pudding and 4 packages of cookies to make enough to fill up that big pan. I also served it with a cat pooper scooper.
Scary huh?
I just set it on the ground for a second and called J-Kun over so I could get a pic of it like he was coming over to use it.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 3:00 PM
Cargar, video cams leave behind uncontrovertable evidence! Pictures can be explained away, but with sound and motion, we are all in trouble :-)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 3:00 PM
The kids were all scared to eat it until after we dug into it and they could see it was really cake.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 3:01 PM
beoch I am totally not fasting (I bow my head in shame). Just taking Lech approach and saying how it is :o).
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 28, 2009 3:01 PM
THL, now there's a recipe! At first I was wondering why you had a shitty litterbox photo on your flickr page!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 3:02 PM

Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 28, 2009 3:04 PM
Kens...you didn't get them?
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 3:05 PM
My Ex and I had a cat with "Opposable Thumbs." He fell out a window and broke his neck and died. And sadly, yes, I am talking about the cat.
Posted by: ATLR at September 28, 2009 3:06 PM
LOL, it really was shockingly realistic huh? I was going to make the tombstone cake with the dirt (crumbled chocolate cake)and (gummy) worms but I figured everyone had already seen that before. Plus as the lady with the 5 cats I thought this would scare the bejeezus out of the kids. It did.
It's a good deterrent for those people who are currently fasting. It'll put you right off of food.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 3:07 PM
OMG, Anna the Rocker, spitting water.

Speaking of cakes. I still have a leftover spice cake cupcake from last week that has escaped being eaten long enough.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 3:10 PM
THL, that will put anybody off food! Maybe you can open a weight loss company ala Nutrisystem and send people food made to look like such things...Everyone would be a skinny minnie!

that said though, I did suggest an OT^2 (ie squared) as the whackiness is now at a new level

Hey! I would be tempted to say guilty as charged but I only invited a few for lunch and I wasn't the one who after a tasty burger said "sooooooo, margaritas anyone?". 6 hours and 5 pitchers of margarita's later........

jester, all told, start to finish, it was about a 12-hour "lunch". I guess we were at Mezcal's for 6 hours. After breakfast at the 24-hour diner on 9th, DH and I were good to go again, but we called it a day.

I think I deserve an award for "Biggest OT thread killer of all time".
Must have been something in the water today. Other three major threads (Meier building, Gravesend house and Synagogue ceiling collapse) had their share of acrimony too.
Posted by: benson at September 28, 2009 4:07 PM
what happened to the Open Thread?????
It used to be so much fun to read. YES, I'm just a Lurker.
But it seems lately, with the addition of some new posters, it's gotten to be dull with all the inside jokes that 3 or 4 people understand. What happened to the original posters?
The What, dittoburg, Snarkslope, bayridgegirl?
The threads where so much more entertaining. It was fun reading the antics around here.
Posted by: Another Lurker at September 28, 2009 4:10 PM
I think benson misses bxgrl :( :( :(
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 28, 2009 4:10 PM
It's a Monday, benson, and some of the Jews are cranky from fasting, even if we aren't in synagogue atoning for our sins, plus I just found out my break fast doesn't start until 8pm!
Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 28, 2009 4:11 PM
Another Lurker what an obviously self serving post. Were you perhaps one of those original posters and now you're taking an anonymous swipe at the newbies?
Tisk tisk.

Lurker, just spit it out on who are the 3 or 4 people with the inside jokes.

Granted I could have made up a new log-in to tell them that but what the hell right?
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 4:18 PM
THL, by its own admission, the lurker has been here for a very long time. How pathetic is that????
Yes, instead of hopping on board and criticizing what has obviously been your source of entertainment for a few years, why don't you add something?? Anything.

1) Cobble has been in shul all today (and this after she, BH & I went to see the protesters outside Kane Street Synagogue on Saturday - 5 adults, 2 children, 45 minutes, please!
B) As far as I know 7:25 (or when sundown hits Brooklyn Heights) is the official time.

Ah, ok, so now I've figured out who one of the three Bs is!
[wink]
It seems like you have so many B's in your life Biff.
You started out with BRG, and now moved on.
Posted by: Another Lurker at September 28, 2009 4:46 PM
I actually happen to agree with you somewhat Another Lurker.
I ignore it when it gets to be too much. In fact...
I'll send you an email about it.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 4:46 PM
I think the newbies have changed the OT for the better.
Why don't you stop hating, AL, and start trying to be as interesting and entertaining as them? Like that's possible...
Posted by: Biff Champion at September 28, 2009 4:47 PM
Except we don't know who they are bc they are bent out of shape under a pseudonym.
Posted by: brighton beoch at September 28, 2009 4:47 PM
OK, lurker...I'll take a stab at making it better for you.
F*&CK YOU AND THE HORSE YOU RODE IN ON.
Is that better??? At least now its more about you.

Every man always wants to stumpf his first girl/boy friend again and again, no matter how badly it ended.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 4:49 PM
I used the appropriate Yiddish in stumpf, I did. just today for the Jews.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 4:49 PM
Oh, wait. I think Another Lurker MUST be Arkady due to his/her exceptional spelling (e.g., "aleinating"). Gotcha, Arkady. [wink] check your email, voicemail, IM.

the point of using a pseudo log-in for this stuff is to come thru with more venom. if not, what's the point
You're right, more4less.
You of all people should have noticed that it's become boring around here because a few need to come on here with their secret language.
We get it! They're friends.
They're aleinating alot of people.
Posted by: Another Lurker at September 28, 2009 4:43 PM
that's why I've been hanging out more outside of the OT recently. when nothing on OT interests me, I go elsewhere (ie last Fri was all zzz's for me so I didn't even bother posting once). Point is you either go hang somewhere else or if it did bugged you enough, come out & say it with fire & venom. The blog is not a place to be shy or gun shy. That's just me, I don't believe in using another ID on this blog. Multiple ID's are for pussies

good lord. i agree with another lurker that the tone of the OT has taken a turn for the junior highschool mentality of late. i strongly disagree that BC/BB/BR are solely or even the majority of the nonsense though. this whole picking on people thing is nasty, bullying behavior.

I like bitter and beoch. I think they're pretty damn funny. And they don't get sanctimonious about anything at all. They're just funny. I don't think they have ever pretended to take the moral high road on anything or pretend they are the keepers of the rules that everyone else has to play by. So bitter and beoch, you're awesome.
I'll be over at asshathill while everyone works the sand out of their vaginas.

If the OT is full of chatter I don't get, I do the same thing as m4l. there are plenty of days I read eveyr word, being bored once a week is not a huge problem.

It seems like someone decided to piggyback on my general warning and invite invective. I just wanted to make it clear that I was not part of that.

OK, I am off to home. My 5 cents..... It's an open blog.
DH is 100% right. PLUSAs got really pissed when other users on the blog blamed them for having inside convos yet people get annoyed at few other for having them.
Do whatever the heck you want. You don't like it, comment on it, ignore it, make snarky remarks, move to another blog, ignore OT all together. Who cares.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 5:04 PM
It better be CC, M4L, and not just because I'm a Yankees fan (well, maybe a little). Grenike is terrific and a legit ace, but CC has dominated to an even greater extent, IMHO. If CC wins his 20th, he's a lock, I say. Also, how come no one is talking Mariano for Cy Young? He always gets screwed!

Me, too. Like you said, they've come up short recently. But, I think that is evidence of how hard it really is to win it all. If you think about it, no other team has won three straight or even had a run like Torre's Yanks. But I feel good about this year's team. This is the year, man.

I have a great idea. Next time I am in the mood to booze and need company, I'll stir some shit under a new screen name and then invite everyone for drinks! This rocks! I'll be sure to offend especially those who I want to drink with so they would have more of a reason to come out.
I hate Clover Club :o(. Too pretentious and they only care one kind of Vodka which is a deal breaker for this russki.

Once again, I can't speak for anybody else, but creepy outbursts like this one from "another lurker" are one of the reasons I am not often in the OT.
The OT is the insider's playground. Posters can come here and toss back and forth all of the self-referential hoo-haw the want.
Why is this a problem for anybody? It's a big Internet out there, with plenty of room for everybody.
Snarky out.

AL, DeLepp is right that was just outright rude. You don't like someones behavior that one thing but to call them out on physical appearance really doesn't do much to boost your argument.
Make you seem petty and nasty.

"But yet we can spend all day on here discussing the looks of celebrities and whether they're hot or not, and that wouldn't bother you??"

[wink]

Dave, you effin snitch! Stop blowin' up my spot, yo!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 5:52 PM
Is there a trick to posting on What's blog? I just tried but couldn't. What should I do under "Select Profile"? I just wanna take What up on doing shots of Jack.

"I could use someone like you as my director of PR."
Don't sign anything until you've heard my proposal....
Posted by: East New York at September 28, 2009 5:54 PM
Cargar...it doesn't work in Firefox...use Safari
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 5:56 PM
CG, I've got your email, I sent you a quick message so you'd have mine.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 5:56 PM
CGar create a Gmail account and then you'll be able to post.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 5:57 PM
Thanx, Snaps. I'll try Safari. It didn't work in Explorer.
Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 28, 2009 6:00 PM
ENY, not sure if you've got the stones this woman has.
But I'd love to hear your proposal. As long as it's decent.
[wink]

Tx, THL. THL, any chance you can be convinced to join us at Union Hall on the 15th to help me celebrate my birthday? Club soda on me all night!
Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 28, 2009 6:04 PM
CGar- I love the drink WAY to much to get close to it. It's been quite torturous for me in all honesty.
I'll toast you from home with an Ensure (blech)!
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 6:06 PM
Besides, AL might show up and call me 'not hot'!
LOL!!
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 6:07 PM
"ENY, not sure if you've got the stones this woman has."
I wouldn't bet on that if I were you, SP. I'm a Brooklyn native and lifelong resident. I got more stones than Bed Stuy has bricks, OK?
That said, my proposal will be completely decent and offer you only the classiest of forums. That's how I roll!
Posted by: East New York at September 28, 2009 6:09 PM
THL, how about if we do it at that fancy beer garden in Jersey City?
Posted by: more4less at September 28, 2009 6:10 PM
I wish I could go out tonight but I'll be working till the wee hours. I'm getting less and less gruntled every day.
All this working is making me look tired and soft. I'd better watch out or AL will say I look "not scary."
Posted by: lechacal at September 28, 2009 6:10 PM
Good night everyone. I think we all need a break at this point and I'm taking mine. Chat with you all later in the week.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 28, 2009 6:12 PM
M4L- A Brownnstoner Brooklyn gathering in JC??!! Sacrilege!
I hope no-one else sees that you posted that!
I'm going to remain a figment of your imagination for the foreseeable future.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 6:14 PM
"cobble, are you out there listening to this. One of the posters thinks this is you. i disagree.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 28, 2009 5:32 PM"
Uhm, not me folks, I've been busybusybusy doing my pro bono work, and had breakfast out with Montrose. CGar and DIBS are correct. NOT ME. [Whoa, just skimming, and I see this got ugly real fast.]
Posted by: cobblehiller at September 28, 2009 6:15 PM
Don't make yourself too scares Snappy!
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 28, 2009 6:16 PM

"I'll toast you from home with an Ensure (blech)!"
ROFL, THL! We'll have to do a Jersey gathering after the Little THL is born.
Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 28, 2009 6:24 PM
