Anybody wanna live with me? lol

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 9:29 AM

Let's face it. If when everyone is in here. No one is really here. Or should I say no one is really all there.

Posted by: Expert Textpert at September 15, 2009 9:29 AM

what happened dipster? did your roommate run away? has anyone else noticed the total uptick in the amount of adult runaways these days?

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at September 15, 2009 9:33 AM

I can totally see Rob living with DH. There will be blunt and 40s dinner every night.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 15, 2009 9:33 AM

That's terrific, Rob!

Posted by: Arkady at September 15, 2009 9:38 AM

Yeah - roommate is bouncing. probably gonna end getting my own crib

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 9:40 AM

I can the headlines now- young men mutually strangle one another. Found dead in apartment partially eaten by starved pit bull :-)

Posted by: bxgrl at September 15, 2009 9:40 AM

haha bxgrl - i'm a good roommate, it's everyone else who sucks ;)

Posted by: bitter retort at September 15, 2009 9:45 AM

DH, roommate bouncing out early?

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 9:47 AM

dh, what did you do with the body??? Gowanus???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 9:49 AM

Anyone saw the Pats game? if yes, does the rest of the league need to start fearing the Pats again (ie they are vegas #1 pick to win it all this yr)?

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 9:50 AM

haha m4l/dibs - leaving on time. i'm looking at some 1 bedrooms tonight in the neighborhood. DH + meeting with rental brokers = hilarity.

dh, what did you do with the body??? Gowanus???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 9:49 AM

DIBS, I'm guessing he's looking around for any development site that's about to pour foundation. It is W'burg right?

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 9:52 AM

The grisly scene, which included odd blood spatter and partially consumed remains, was discovered by the popular owner of a small bodega on 4th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn at 5:30am.

Posted by: Nokilissa at September 15, 2009 9:53 AM

So, I see we're off to a smiley happy start in here this morning. Eek.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 9:59 AM

ahh! the other thread about people talking about taxes and acorns reminded me i totally forgot about doing my 2003 and 2004 taxes (the nasty letter they sent me claiming i owe thousands of dollars which is RIDICULOUS) for state taxes. i need to find an accountant or tax attorney (preferably one who does pro bono work for the needy) to do my taxes as i cant make heads or tails of the forms myself. does anyone have any suggestions?

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at September 15, 2009 10:01 AM

m4l, it was great to see the Pats and Chargers pull it out at the end. Rivers and Brady seem to be leaders who can do that sort of thing. I don't know how comforting it is for others though.

Posted by: DeLepp at September 15, 2009 10:05 AM

I thought Kanye's apology on Leno last night was contrived and lame.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 10:06 AM

Rob, check out the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program -VITA. Call the number and maybe you can get a trained law student to help.

http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=107626,00.html

Posted by: jessibaby at September 15, 2009 10:07 AM

I used to volunteer for VITA when I was in school - good fun

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 10:09 AM

Kanye is contrived and lame - so its not surprising his apology was

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 10:10 AM

oooh thanks jessibaby! is it ghetto of me trying to look for someone to do this for free though? i see tax places all over 5th and 7th avenue, can i just walk into one of those with my paperwork? it wouldnt be arduous to do my taxes it's all straight forward, no weird deductions or anything. do you think it would be over 100 bux? i have no idea how these kinds of things work. but i really dont want to get put in jail or worse my wages garnished.

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at September 15, 2009 10:10 AM

good morning...is there still a possible PLUSA gathering going on this Thursday? i was going to try to build up the nerve to show up to one finally. i'm a little shy about the whole thing to be honest. the other thing is that it's the park slope food tour on Thursday!! i went last year and it was awesome. my favorite food pick was the free mini-burgers from flipsters!

oh and DIBS you watched the new leno show? was it any good, aside from the lame apology?

Posted by: bodhi_brooklyn at September 15, 2009 10:12 AM

Kanye needs to go, anywhere.

Posted by: DeLepp at September 15, 2009 10:13 AM

Rob, I love that having wages garnished is worse than jail! Yeah, the website says the the income requirement is approx. less than 49k, so if you qualify, it's worth calling. Especially since volunteers probably won't be all that busy this time of year.

Posted by: jessibaby at September 15, 2009 10:15 AM

bodhi, the show wasn't very good at all. I'd rather watch a Law & Order episode; and i liked Leno. I can't stand Conan O'Brien so if I'm up after the news I watch Letterman for awhile.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 10:16 AM

Leno asked him if his mom were alive what she'd say to him about his behaviour, I do think that made him feel like a complete @ss.

Posted by: bitter retort at September 15, 2009 10:16 AM

Sorry, I'm late to the crime scene...

On one side of the room, Hannah Montana was still playing on the small TV in front of a stained bean bag chair, while on the other side of the room, 12 crushed, empty cans of Pork Slap Beer were scattered across the August issue of Hipster Magazine that included provocative pictures of a semi-clad Sarah Palin.

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 15, 2009 10:16 AM

Sad news- Patrick Swayze died.

Posted by: bxgrl at September 15, 2009 10:17 AM

soooo a guy was SHOT IN THE FACE at a deli in clinton hill last night. I feel this should be a pretty good topic of discussion today.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 10:19 AM

I QUALIFY!!!

*rob*

Posted by: Butterfly at September 15, 2009 10:20 AM

Rob - The IRS, itself, can also help - they're working w/ a niece of mine.

Posted by: Arkady at September 15, 2009 10:23 AM

All this blood and gore, and not one mention of Federer being taken down by [the deliciously tall & handsome] Del Potro!

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 10:23 AM

Where's the link to the story, dh???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 10:23 AM

so older women turn you on?

some of us are awaiting the totally unclad pics of Palin's almost son-in-law. Read he is going to gym to buff up for them.

Rob, you have an education. You can fill out tax forms. Especially if only income is work and a bank acct.
Getting the stuff together is the pain....going online and filling them out is not....Just go to taxact or one of the others. Sounds like just being lazy...if if short of money why spend it to have someone no smarter than you fill it out.

Posted by: Petebklyn at September 15, 2009 10:24 AM

ch, great match, I like how the tall drink of water came from behind...

Posted by: DeLepp at September 15, 2009 10:25 AM

Hiya
I actually thought Kanye's apology was sorta heartfelt, it's soooo obvious he still hasn't dealt with the pain of losing his mother in such a tragic/weird way and remember he and his fiance broke up less than a month after his mother's death. maybe I am a softie, but I felt for the guy.

Posted by: gemini10 at September 15, 2009 10:26 AM

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 10:26 AM

Rob's tax issue is STATE taxes, not Fed. I think should consider the VITA option. Even for a smart person, working on taxes, especially for the state, can be taxing!! [Sorry!]

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 10:27 AM

bodhi_brooklyn, we're meeting at Pacifico this Thursday. Hopefully you can swing by for a bit.

DIBS, what time were you thinking of showing up?

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 15, 2009 10:28 AM

dh, franklin and flushing might is so fringy it might as well be jersey.

Posted by: DeLepp at September 15, 2009 10:29 AM

anyone see brickoven?

i need to beat him up a bit...

Posted by: antidope at September 15, 2009 10:29 AM

He did seem really emotional but lets see if it lasts. But sorry- the death of your mother and loss of your fiancee doesn't excuse you from being a complete ass. He was self-indulgent and mean spirited- I hardly think he became that way over the death of his mother.

Posted by: bxgrl at September 15, 2009 10:30 AM

A hot Argentine and a buff naked Levi Johnston all by 10:30am. My kind of morning.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 15, 2009 10:30 AM

Del Potro looks a little Biffy..

Posted by: bitter retort at September 15, 2009 10:30 AM

dh, very unclear what the situation/motive was. Doesn't sound like a robbery or random act. Seems more like a personal beef. Bizarre.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 10:30 AM

bxgrl, cobble, so very nice to see you both today ;)

Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 15, 2009 10:31 AM

I miss Kanye before he became a clown (like when his first album dropped)

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 10:32 AM

Around 6:30 or so. I want to check out the taqueria on Court St first.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 10:32 AM

yeah - weird DIBS, and obviously not clinton hill or bed stuy proper, but random acts of violence involving gunshot wounds to the face typically grab my attention - especially after the post last week saying how crime is down in FG/CH

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 10:33 AM

i might stop by too. taqueria sounds interesting. you want company dibs or you need to fly along to get your groove on?

Posted by: CG_ups at September 15, 2009 10:33 AM

Thanks CGar, I'll be on & off today. Have a bunch of stuff to do...[Oddly busy]

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 10:33 AM

"Del Potro looks a little Biffy.."

Thanks, Bitter.
But I think I'm more Del Monte than Del Potro.

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 15, 2009 10:34 AM

"I want to check out the taqueria on Court St first."

You want to check out the Taqueria or the Taqueria's employees? : P

Bodhi, bitter & beoch????

No comments on Patrick Swayze's passing?

Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 15, 2009 10:41 AM

"The rest of you losers coming to Pacifico tonight??? Anyone new??? 11217, BHO, brickoven???"

DIBS, I thought we were talking about Thursday, NOT tonight.

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 15, 2009 10:41 AM

CGar, oh, were you sleeping in the East wing? I can't remmber if I put clean sheets on the beds in that part of the house...I don't go over there very often. The walk is so tiring! ; )

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 10:41 AM

Federer didn't play well and choked a little but Del Potro was the better player last night

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 10:41 AM

Si, I thought you were all talking about Thursday as well. Tonight is a no-can-do.

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 10:42 AM

Yes, cobble, Thursday. Sorry about that.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 10:43 AM

No problem, cobble. I woke the staff and they made up the room. (cobble, I don't think it's wise having the wine frig outside the maid's room)

Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 15, 2009 10:44 AM

I think we're on for Thursday!!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 10:47 AM

So, cobble, we'll just meet Thursday at the place near the thing where we met that time. It'll be better. They serve alcohol there. No need to bring the movie, tho, but do bring BH, Chad and Chet.

Pacifico? you know you gotta watch out for the rats running around there.

Posted by: Petebklyn at September 15, 2009 10:48 AM

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 10:53 AM

Aw, thanks Snappy, would be great to SEE you, too!

CGar, hmmm, I may have to rethink that, she's a total lush and denies drinking. She went through an entire case of La Crema last WEEK! I just can't seem to figure out where she's hiding the bottles!

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 10:53 AM

DH, sorry if you mentioned this and I missed it but are you considering other areas of BK/NYC in you apt. search?

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 15, 2009 10:54 AM

Pete...there are rats everywhere in NYC, especially in government jobs. :)

It's on Mrs. C's book club list.

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 15, 2009 10:57 AM

For DH,

SWOTD: Quipster!

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 11:05 AM

I loved Jimmy McMillian's entry in the Voter Guide that came in the mail!

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 11:05 AM

I decided on Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself. It was really really good. It was about the importance of faith and family with a lot of humor injected into it. It was surprisingly deep and made me cry harder than I have in a long time. Cried so hard I went home with a massive headache.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 11:07 AM

Antidope, why dont you just admit you miss Brickoven? It's kind of boring to not have fav sparring partner around on the blog for this long.

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 11:09 AM

Was brickoven banned as well?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 11:10 AM

Haha CHiller - awesome!

Biff - I'm going to try to stay in Northern Brooklyn, as I'm comfortable and most of my friends are there.

Rents are batshit crazy though. 1 bedroom off the Montrose L for $1,600? Bitch please.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 11:10 AM

he's walked away from a bet.
you want to take his place?

Posted by: antidope at September 15, 2009 11:11 AM

Ugh - am freaking out
I sorta started a new facet of my job here about 3 months ago and have been training with the person who has done it for years but she hates it and is always "sick" so now she just announces to is going on 1 month medical leave tomorrow and will be unreachable. So I will be left to do her job and I only know how to do 50% of it.
What kind of leverage do I have with my boss now that I have been expecting a raise and title change for sometime now and this happened?
PS - my boss has been wanting to get rid of the girl for some time now...
is this a blessing in disguise?

Posted by: gemini10 at September 15, 2009 11:13 AM

DH, : D

Speaking of voting...must go take care of a few things and cast my votes...back later.

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 11:13 AM

There are rats in gov't jobs yes-called informants... that is why I keep my mouth shut. :) But Pacifico is notorious. (check out comments from earlier days). But I'm brave...I might show up and just stand on chair or table.

Posted by: Petebklyn at September 15, 2009 11:14 AM

Antidope, Brickoven is on a month long vac. All my bets involves $$$. Already have a $1k bet with Mr Joist which he might lose soon. Anyhow, if you want to propose a wager with some $$$, I'm open to it

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 11:14 AM

DH, are you looking in Greenpoint too? I really like that area, in addition to W'burg.

DH, didn't you hear? All is fine. Nothing but clear blue skys ahead. High rent coincides with rosey econ

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 11:16 AM

Ya - Greenpoint too. Still insane rents though. I thought rents were dropping?

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 11:17 AM

haha m4l - goldman will get there bonuses this year and save us all.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 11:18 AM

DH - that is one sign you are getting old.....when starting to say I remember when I could rent an apt there for such and such $. or it cost only this to buy that. Be careful.
You might end up being a dirty old hipster.

so CHiller...who you voting for? I don't like any of the council candidates.

Posted by: Petebklyn at September 15, 2009 11:19 AM

antidope, if you want in on my bet with Mr Joist, I'm open to extending it to you too. Bet is a 3 story or higher flr house (that is not gut-renov fixer) can NOT be had in Park slope (9th st & northward boundary-wise) during the next 10 yrs.

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 11:21 AM

m4l...for under a certain price I assume????

"DH - that is one sign you are getting old.....when starting to say I remember when I could rent an apt there for such and such $. or it cost only this to buy that. "

Haha pete - i'm only 25 - but in my 7 years in NYC i remember:
my studio on the LES that rented for 900 - now market is double
my one bedroom in chinatown for 1,250 - probably goes for 2,000 now
friends in college living in "prime greenpoint" 1 bedrooms for 700 bucks or williamsburg one bedrooms off bedford for 1200

WTF is happening to this city?

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 11:24 AM

my father taught me not to bet.
my mother taught me not to talk to strangers.

but, wtf was your bet. what you wrote makes no sense. your post is missing a price tag.

Is Pacifico a bar or a restaurant/bar?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 11:26 AM

If anyone happens to hear of a furnished room for rent 2 nights / week, please let me know. A close friend of mine sold his apartment and is eventually moving upstate full time, but needs a place in the meantime. Like DIBS, he prefers an en suite bath!

Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 15, 2009 11:28 AM

i don't get it; now you've switched sides?

Posted by: antidope at September 15, 2009 11:29 AM

omg. my boss makes rush limbaugh look like a liberal hippie. he is ripping on obama again. to the point where it is stomach-turning. i want to hork on his desk but i won't, bc i'm a lady.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 11:30 AM

Antidope, I put $$$ where my mouth is else it's just empty talk or simply bad breath coming out. BTW, Mr Joist offered to take 10 $1k wagers on that bet which I offered to take all 10 but he wasn't willing to so I settled for just $1k

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 11:31 AM

CG_ups, treat him to lunch in your cafeteria instead!

Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 15, 2009 11:31 AM

i can handle people having real issues with obama, but the kind of sleazy implicitly racist b/s that he spews. ugh. it is making me really upset. and he says it all in a low, slimy voice bc he KNOWS it's scummy. ugh.i'm actually kinda teary right now. and this jagoff is my fucking boss.

btw, that be was proposed by Mr Joist. I simply accepted the bet

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 11:36 AM

I have a friend, just back to the city, who is working in Williamsburg, and wants a ground floor apartment with garden access nearby, preferably in northern Bed Stuy. He's not picky, or afraid of living in the hood. Right now, he's commuting from Borough Park, where he's renting a room from a friend's mother. It is really not working for him, so if anyone knows of a place.....

Posted by: Montrose Morris at September 15, 2009 11:36 AM

Hmmm...not seeing an inspection result for anything named trout either. Weird.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 11:38 AM

CG, we have a life size cardboard cut-out of Obama (Joe, Sarah and McCain, too). You should take a photo next to him and we'll send that to your douchebag boss for Christmas.

snappy, i posted the link above! :)

Posted by: CG_ups at September 15, 2009 11:39 AM

CG that stinks. Maybe type out an anonymous note saying he's being offensive and slip it in his office when no one is around?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 11:39 AM

oh, inspection result, i thought you meant citysearch result. there is also 1842 and it's old name, i think it was the lobster shack or something. anyone remember former name of pacifico?

Posted by: CG_ups at September 15, 2009 11:40 AM

CG, I'm looking for the NYC Dept. of Health inspection report...they don't have a listing for Trout or Pacifico.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 11:40 AM

cobble, I made a remark in the Street Clutter thread that you may not like.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 11:40 AM

sigh. thanks for the suggestions but a card or a note still won't change the fact that he is an enormous asshole. i'm just having a moody moment. i need to win the lottery though.

snappy, one more try, "since 1963" is the current name.

Posted by: CG_ups at September 15, 2009 11:42 AM

DH, doesn't your pad have garden access?

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 11:42 AM

MM...tell him to keep checking the bedstuyblog

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 11:44 AM

CG ups- wow. That is awful for you. Horrible position to be in. I finally found that the best way for me to deal with things like that- before I explode and savage the guy- is just to tell them I don't like racist crap and I don't like talking my politics in the workplace. Said very quietly (while rummaging through the knife drawer) :-)

I actually love arguing politics- when it doesn't descend into nastiness, as it so often does here- but with a boss there's always this thing that they have the power to fire you and would they if you exercised your own freedom of speech?

If he's really being a dick, place an anonymous call to an anti-discrimination organization and ask them what you can do and what your rights are. Probably none and nothing, but they may have some helpful advice.

Posted by: bxgrl at September 15, 2009 11:44 AM

Hmmm...no hits under 1963, lobster shack or 1842. Did they close down and we just don't know it?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 11:46 AM

i would not bet against finding a skinny 3 story frame house, tilted with no stoop in passable condition in that wide an area (presumably bounded by but not on 4th ave and the park). i've seen some crummy houses listed that i'd never consider buying but others might even consider not in need of a reno (and which i'd never bother to renovate either bc the bones are so awful anyway). and nothing against a nice frame house without a stoop. there are plenty that are great with front porch etc, esp in south slope. for instance, there is a street of decent/nice houses (11th or 10th between 3rd and 4th) that I think you will find in your price range already. but classic brownstone in heart of slope, it is not yet close.

point is there is a wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide variety of crap on the market that maybe you're willing to live with that wouldn't occur to me.

Posted by: antidope at September 15, 2009 11:46 AM

Pacifico I don't think has changed names...all those places on that corner I think share 1 kitchen and all run by whats-his-face. Rats were issue with the outside patio ---inside and kitchen are probably fine.(although the food is lousy)

Posted by: Petebklyn at September 15, 2009 11:47 AM

"DH, doesn't your pad have garden access?"

No - unfortunately. It does have a bitchin stoop and is a block and a half away from McCarren though.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 11:47 AM

"I can't find their restaurant inspection report on the City's page."

Snappy, do you do this everytime you go out or was it Petebklyn's rat comment that got you thinking? If you're worried, there are plenty of food options along Smith to pick up some grub before or after - including a Dominos
:-)

I believe Trout and Pacifico are two separate joints, even though they are next to each other, so be sure to go to Pacifico...it's clearly marked and hard to miss.

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 15, 2009 11:48 AM

Snappy, just bring Pia to keep the rats away.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 11:50 AM

Bxgrl- I was so sad when I heard about Patrick Swayze. I did a post about it on my blog. Which of course included my all time favorite Swayze performance. The Chippendales skit with Chris Farley from SNL-

Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 15, 2009 11:51 AM

Snappy, it is still there and by hard to miss, this is what I mean (don't worry, it's far less tacky once you get past the entrance):

http://www.brownstoner.com/restaurants/Pacifico.jpg

I haven't eaten there but wouldn't be surprised if Pete is right...I don't believe it's much of a restaurant destination. It's much more about the vibe it offers for fun patio drinking.

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 15, 2009 11:52 AM

Dave, Pia's got no front claws so she can't help with vermin! And yes, Biffy, for any place that serves food, I must know their inspection results before I agree to eat or drink anything there...I'm a nervous nellie :-)

Pete...what restaurants share that one kitchen? Maybe I can find the inspection results under one of those names.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 11:53 AM

If drinking with rats is what you consider "fun patio drinking", Biff ;)

Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 15, 2009 11:55 AM

i've heard lots of things about this and that rats at pacifico but if you drink enough booze, it kills the rat germs, no? sorry to say there does not appear to be any listing, i checked the NYC DOH website for the entire neighborhoods of cobble hill and boerum hill and there is nothing even remotely resembling the restaurant listed. hmmm. on the upside, i discovered there is an ihop in boerum hill! take that manhattan!

thanks for your comments! just having a sympathetic ear (or lots of ears!) is really helpful in an otherwise helpless situation. i feel better. :)

Snappy, just get bottled or canned beer if you're worried. I'll even bring Purell to wipe down the top and sides for you.

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 15, 2009 11:56 AM

Antidope, if the ppty is POS (ie kind of what you think I'm looking at), it wouldn't be a bargain but rather a POS. Bargain is something nice bought at a relatively low price vs. mkt.

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 11:56 AM

antidope,

The key to the bet is the 9th street border and the 3-story and non-gut reno limitation. Very few 3-story frames north of 9th that haven't been fixed up. I like m4l's odds, here. Basically, he loses if the market tanks another 20% and one of two houses on 8th Street behind the post office flips before recovery. Different story if the bet went to 15th Street. Gotta read the fine print.

Posted by: slopefarm at September 15, 2009 11:58 AM

I've got purell on my keychain dude! I always come prepared! Seriously though, the thought of having rats running at my feet scares the shit outta me. I think I'm gonna have to pass on this get-together.

Damn Bodhi!!! Bea had potty mouth!!!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 12:12 PM

Snappy, you would love dining in chapel hill, raleigh, durham area in N. Carolina. all restaurants post their cleanliness rating from the gov inspections. anything less than 90 (out of 100) is given the weird eye by customers. the lowest I recall encountering down there was 88 and it look pretty clean in bathroom and kitchen

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 12:14 PM

I know most places have had rats, etc. For me, I go by the most recent inspection report. If that report is clean enough, I'm able to go there. But it also depends for me on how recent that report is. Say for instance a place has a clean report but the last inspection was way back in November of last year. No dice. I wait for a new one to come up and then I'm game again. Silly, I know, but I've got issues!!!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 15, 2009 12:15 PM

Remember the last time you ate at a restaurant and got sick?

you prolly ate some rat poo

:)

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 12:17 PM

oh Dave...you think I have power to make something out of nothing? that is almost godlike. I will take as compliment.
Yet, you don't live near the restaurant invasion territory and I am envious of you for that. Rats have become major problem and anyplace with outdoor patio has them guaranteed.
But if big group shows up I doubt they will appear and run around your feet. more apt to very late when few if any people around. They are more scared of us they we of them.
And they should be.
So please come.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at September 15, 2009 12:33 PM

Is there really anything worse storefront-wise than a 99 cents store?

I posted this sign that I found on New York Shitty. It pretty much sums up the craptacularness that is the 99cents store:

Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 15, 2009 12:34 PM

wow- the Dems are finally pushing back at the Town Hall Meetings. Rep. Pete Stark of Ca told an anti-health care reform guy after a long diatribe which ended with him saying. "don't pee on my leg and tell me its raining." Stark replied- "I wouldn't dignify you by peeing on your leg, it wouldn't be worth wasting the urine."

I gotta say, that was really funny.

Posted by: bxgrl at September 15, 2009 12:34 PM

Nice Pete Stark, quoting a Judge Judy book in a town hall meeting.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 15, 2009 12:37 PM

DIBS, I saw that! Watch your language!

Pete: I went with Skaller, despite the 43,000 Heyer signs all over the 'hood. Although, now I'm doubting myself. I liked him saying he wouldn't take money from developers and the like.

Turns out the CHA/Jerry Armer is backing him, too - but I didn't know that until I came BACK from voting and saw their flyer - WTF? I mean if they really wanted to influence people, they might have wanted to deliver that flyer uhm, by say at least, YESTERDAY! LOL!

Does he have a prayer?

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 12:40 PM

THL,

as econ stays in the dumps, there'll be more & more 99c stores. Tons of them will be opened by Chinese folks who have connections to factories in china that produces the stuff.

I don't dislike 99c stores but do get a little saddened it replaces a popular biz that's no where close to being a 99c store - as was case here

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 12:40 PM

"I see Wells Fargo fired the exec who moved into one of the bank's foreclosed houses in the Malibu Colony. Can you say "chutzpah"?!"

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 12:43 PM

DH, I think what's happening is that the monied and the immigrants are trading places. Monied moving into the city and immigrants moving into the burbs. Or, another view: Rent control and rent stabilization were abolished, and now every two years you have to move another two subway stops out to afford the same rent. Right?

Posted by: mopar at September 15, 2009 12:44 PM

M4L, I use 99cents stores sometimes, they do come in handy. In general I am scared of the products. I just feel like there's teaming with toys that wouldn't even come close to passing a safety standard and plastic that's probably 50% lead and 50% god only knows.

Whenever I see a mom buying baby bottles, binkies or other baby products in them I get this really uneasy feeling.

Then I think you boxed yourself into a bit of a corner. If the bet went to 12th Street, I'd be with you. Maybe your bet is silent on the western border. 3rd Ave would make it work.

does anyone ever get their lunch at one of those delis that have the big open food court thingie where they charge by weight? then you get rung up and you feel like you were seriously jacked off? ugh. i swear i am convinced those scales are tampered with.

Posted by: Butterfly at September 15, 2009 2:07 PM

LOL Arkady! I'm trying to convince myself to be brave and go (while wearing my Timberland boots of course) but I don't know. Anyway, I was reading on the reviews that they don't allow you to be seated in the patio if you only order drinks. Are you all planning to have dinner there as well to get the patio seating?

Rob - The City checks those scales (& data are as reliable as those about rats.)

Posted by: more4less at September 15, 2009 2:25 PM

Rob, Honestly, the trick to those delis is to buy the light stuff.

I used to go to one that if I bought some fruit like strawberries, pineapple, melon etc. it's cost me almost $9 (by weight). If I went to the counter and got the cup of pre-cut fruit it'd be $3.

If I bought a big leafy salad though it was def. worth it. lettuce is light as a feather.

Yes Dave, now I'm curious. How much is a 'tossed salad'?

Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 15, 2009 2:30 PM

I think m4l might be pleasantly surprised by the way things work once he falls on hard times and has to hit the streets. There are those of us out there who will pay to give and not necessarily to receive!!!!!

But I will not pay someone to be my bf. That would make me a "sad, sad little man."

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 2:30 PM

It also depends upon the venue. If you're working the 8th Ave adult movie shops, not so much.

CG_ups, it's kind of like sweeping the flrs - ie both hands choking a broom stick and moving it back & forth, up ......

Well if it's a choice between then on the streets or you walking the streets I think it's very big of you to sacrifice like that M4L.

Although, according to Dave's basic pricing scale it seems like the ability to upsale is the most important tool to have in your bags of tricks.

I don't think the Giants can get 200 rushing yards off the Cowboys, M4L, although we do have one of their stud tackles now. It's also going to be tough to beat them in the opener for their new $100 Trillion stadium. But I like their chances to pull out a win.

speaking of prostitutes and yanking when i was little and just starting to explore my body i used to fantasize about prostitutes (female, btw) and how they would charge in increments of 25 dollars. and they all had names! always 25, 50, 75, or 100. and it was never based on WHAT they did, just whether they were hot or not.

im assuming that is somewhat normal for the adolescent brain development right? i hope! hahah. i was heavily inundated with pornography from a very early age though.

It depends on who you're talking to. If it's a baseball purist, it's Mariano. If it's a popular culture freak, it's Jeter. If it's THL, it's Bernie Williams.

Jorge Posada is also in there somewhere, too. Just don't shake Jorge's hand right before the game.

Funny story,

I used to live in Chelsea when I was in college. This before the gays made it super pretty. We were on 24th Street between 9th & 10th (across from London Terrace). 24th street traffic runs eastbound and we had a firehydrant right in front of our first floor window.

There was a brisk flesh trade that went on over at 11th Avenue. The girls would get picked up and they'd drive to the nearest spot to pull over and conduct their brief transaction. Guess what was a great spot? Right in front of my living room window by the fire hydrant!

We had great fun heckling the customers. Particularly those with car seats in the backseat (I hope you go home and shower before you pick up your child). The girls would laugh and wave at us they were a hoot. The men would for the most part be mortified. A few actually enjoyed the audience.

It was quite the crowd pleaser when we threw big parties and people under the influence would be called over to the window to see a performance.

Anyway, as all baseball fans know, a catcher need tough hands to play his position. What some don't know is that urine makes human skin very tough and resistant. So before every game, Jorge...I'll let you guess the rest.

Yes, lechecal. 6:30ish Thursday. You missed the whole rat discussion, which may have cost us Snappy's participation.

"Should I sell it on eBay? Is B'stoner memorabilia highly appraised?"

I thought your name was familiar, pr perhaps just similar to another. It's not like I'm actually keeping track here!! ; )

I'm saying, if you can get anything for your non-existent 'Stoner memorabilia....GO FOR IT! : )

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 3:49 PM

Yes, jackal. There'l be talk of rats, wanks, water sports, going price for any of the latter and of South Brooklyn prostitutes.

There will also be a discussion of the upcoming World Series where the Phillies PWN the Wanks, er, Yanks after the Yanks lose their last game quite badly in fenway but do make it to the Series.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 15, 2009 3:50 PM

Holy crap DH. Do NOT move in there!

lowhearts, are you in retail?

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 3:50 PM

Groovy. Drinks with clients 6-7 tonight, was considering trying to segue that into an impromptu loser happy hour for the midtown losers.... but then the little angel on the other side of my head talked me out of it.

Posted by: lechacal at September 15, 2009 3:51 PM

Uh, cobble, a word. (Please see Dave's 3:42 and my 3:43, or are there further manual revisions awaiting my attention?)

I have the copyright on PLUSA Tiaras. PLUSAS caught selling the membership tiara will be fined a lot of money, stripped of their membership and shorts, whipped with a rhinestone necklace and otherwise hounded until an appropriate grovelling apology is offered and accepted.

No, I'm a tailor though.

Don't worry, bxgrl, just joking around. I'm doing a lot of joking around today.

Posted by: Lowhearts at September 15, 2009 3:56 PM

M4L,

You have a hookup at any of the factories in China? We could totally have a black market PLUSA tiara trade setup.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 15, 2009 3:57 PM

How come there aren't any comments on the human being outside of today's restaurant? Are you lulling Mr. B into a false sense of security so he'll continue having people in the pix?
There's also been an odd dearth of cat discussions today.

Posted by: Arkady at September 15, 2009 3:57 PM

We already knew you needed to get some, Rob. You need it BAD. Ask Dave if you can borrow his skank-o-fil...er, his black book.

Oh crap! You're absolutely right.

OK, my turn to use a coffee break to check in on what's blog. He's got a link to a Swayze/Grey video from Dirty Dancing (no comments), a thread ridiculing Bernanke for calling the end of the recession (picture of Jerry from Tom & Jerry laughing, but no comments), the Tempts doing Cloud Nine (nice, but no comments) and a video of Gary Numan singing Cars. I hope he's happy, but I don't see another NY Mag cover any time soon. His taste is more whitebread than I ever imagined.

Cobble, any insights?

DIBS, as charming an offer as that is, Bitter and I are going to Bar Stuzzichini per earlier post tonight.

BTW, I am mad at the MB now - tried to get another res and couldn't. Guess they didn't realize I was the OTHER Brighton Beoch last time I went there.

Posted by: brighton beoch at September 15, 2009 4:38 PM

DH - i used to rent a place from ambrosino construction on majuer street near union. it was a two bedroom for around $1900 two years ago. they had some one bedrooms and studios if i recall correctly here's there info if you are interested in calling to see if they have anything. they were descent enough landlords. i'm pretty sure this is their number: 718-366-6528. it's not a broker, it's the owners of the properties.

also, there was a guy who owned a gas station on the corner of maujer and lormier - this tony soprano type guy who drove a Ferrari or something. anyway, from time to time i would ask him about apartments also, since he owned a number of buildings in the area, including a new one one across the block from the gas station with balconies. he seemed to know what was available in the neighborhood as well.

good luck!

"Don't have my singing voice on tonight, but perhaps Bitter and I can join you there another time."

You missed karaoke night at Ellis. Having your singing voice on is definitely not a requirement for singing with fellow PLUSAs.

Posted by: slopefarm at September 15, 2009 4:49 PM

"Cobble, any insights?"

Nope. Wish I did. It just doesn't 'feel' very "What-ish" in some ways. On the other hand, I was never convinced that What is a black guy or a white guy. I have my suspicions about him, and who he is. And lately that suspicion leans towards thinking that What IS INDEED STILL among us. But I've been wrong before.

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 15, 2009 4:49 PM

Marie's Crisis....yes, about 10 years ago with a former bf.

Posted by: brighton beoch at September 15, 2009 4:52 PM

I don't think any PLUSAs can top Infinite's performance.
The karaoke 'bar' is set very high from there on out.

Posted by: brighton beoch at September 15, 2009 4:54 PM

Cobble, the nuclear finger is what-ish, and he does like to memorialized deceased pop culture icons. I remember he got very upset with the Michael Jackson discussion in the OT. What I don't get is all the antagonism he brought here, and he's so mellow over there. He's not even cutting and pasting much of anything. It's like he's not trying. I am not sure what he is trying to accomplish with his blog. However, if he has mellowed and has decided to use his blog as a place to chill, that may be good for his mental health.

Do you think he's just lurking or do you think he has another identity here.

Posted by: slopefarm at September 15, 2009 4:55 PM

Bitter/Brighton, Thank you! Would LOVE to, but I'm firmly planted in Chillerville this evening. I used to work in that area, and it was a favorite place to meet after work.

"Do you think he's just lurking or do you think he has another identity here."

Hi Slopey, I've always thought he had more than one identity, and I'm not alone in that. However, my ideas about WHO that may be differ from others here. Yes, I think it's someone pretty regular — at the moment.

If it is this 'other identity' doing the blog, then it makes so much more sense to me. If it isn't him doing it, I'm wondering where the heck he is? Do we know if he is still blocked? But didn't he also say he was taking some time off into Sept?
