Alright, I'm taking a vacation from brownstoner. Shit's too addictive. Happy September. See ya in October. I promise.

What a draconian remedy, BHO. Good luck!
Posted by: Arkady at September 3, 2009 9:34 AM
Enjoy BHO. Have a good time.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 3, 2009 9:35 AM
BHO, you taking a month long vacation or just sitting away from Stoner for a month?
Posted by: more4less at September 3, 2009 9:36 AM
So is it only me or do many of you skip over BrooklynGreene's comments since they are always like 50 pages long.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 3, 2009 9:37 AM
kens, you are not the only one. i do that too. though i usually do that for any post over three paragraphs.
Posted by: bodhi_brooklyn at September 3, 2009 9:40 AM
Same here, Kens. I just scan through a lot of the stuff that's riding the same old, same old hobby horse.
Posted by: Arkady at September 3, 2009 9:42 AM
Kens;
I found that whole thread on the mugging to be "tin-hat" territory, and it reminded me of the philosophy that used to prevail in the bad-old-days of NYC.
BrooklynGreene's comments really put it over the top. She was advocating that we all go around and give these "poor" kids money so that they don't get swayed into a life of mugging. Unreal. Yeah, let's reward people for not mugging us.
Posted by: benson at September 3, 2009 9:42 AM
haha giving kids money for not mugging people - that's almost as funny as giving kids money for getting good grades...oh, wait a minute......
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 3, 2009 9:48 AM
The funny thing about that thread was that everyone was saying basically the same thing, just in different ways. That was proof positive that we B'Stoners just can't resist a fight :)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 9:52 AM
I don't think she is capable of just writing one sentence answers. Must be a "fun" person to work with. There is one like that in my office. If you ever get stopped by her in the hallway or if she ever comes by your cube, you better pray that the phone rings or something otherwise you'll be nodding your head for at least 2 hours.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 3, 2009 9:52 AM
DH;
While I don't necessarily agree with the idea of giving kids money for good grades, I find it alot less objectionable than BG's ides. At least you're incentivizing a positive outcome.
Posted by: benson at September 3, 2009 9:52 AM
hey, I aint robbing you but rather collecting the fee which encourages me to NOT rob you
Posted by: more4less at September 3, 2009 9:53 AM
I've paid to have crimes committed against me.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 3, 2009 9:54 AM
omg, i hate it when you have a ton of work to do and some idiot has nothing to do so they freaking make total noise. someone is playing world of warcraft commercials? i don't know what that shit is, but it is loud and annoying. they're making fun of the "losers" that play the games, but isn't making fun of losers just being a bigger effing loser?
Posted by: CG_ups at September 3, 2009 9:55 AM
Hey Benson,
I thought of you the other day. I was driving by Avenue U and McDonald Ave. and realized that I haven't been to Joe's of Avenue U for years and figured you would definitely know the place. They are barely open these days so unless I catch a lunch there on Saturdays, I am out of luck. They used to always have the prettiest waitresses and great homemade Italian food.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 3, 2009 9:55 AM
If you go around handing out 'pizza money' to all the kids hangin' on the streets, you'll be broke after about 6 blocks or so!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 9:55 AM
BHO--say it ain't so. And why back in October?
Posted by: wasder at September 3, 2009 9:55 AM
CG...it might be time for you to have a sit-down with this person! Don't they have earphones or something??? Insane!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 9:56 AM
BHO, there will be no one left for me to argue with. At least no one who is basically sane. :)
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 3, 2009 9:57 AM
True Benson - I just read BG's comment and it is totally over the top.
I was going to go off on a rant about parents today, but I'll refrain.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 3, 2009 9:57 AM
hey benson, I saw the thread but not the BG comment... just went back and read it. While I agree with some of it concerning lack of opportunity etc, the part about walking up to some kids and handing them money will get you an ass-whipping in a hurry... that's about as condescending a comment as you can find.
Posted by: denton at September 3, 2009 9:58 AM
The whole 'paying you to not rob me' kinda sounds like what the Mob did/does. As in 'pay me to clean your windows so I don't bust those mofos up in the middle of the night' or 'pay me to protect your store so I don't rob your ass.' Ridiculous in my opinion.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 9:59 AM
BHO back in Oct, What in Nov, just in time for the depression 2. Not.
Posted by: denton at September 3, 2009 10:01 AM
Kens;
I used to live near Joe's of Ave U for many years - that's my home turf. Good news for you: they have now expanded their hours, and are even open on Sunday.
I went there a few weeks ago. Still pretty good. I'll tell you the truth, I think there are two places that are better:
-Ferdinando's Foccaceria,on Union Street between Columbia and Hicks. This place has been there for over a 100 years - my dad used to go there when he was a kid. They are famous for their "Pane Panelle" special, which is a fried chickpea patty with ricotta cheese. Yummy!
-Royal Crown restaurant on 14th Ave and around 63rd Street. Excellent food, and friendly service. Another feature of this place is that you can watch the wiseguys hold court, as a group of them hang out there. Despite the presence of the wiseguys, it's not one of these places that would intimidate a person off the street.
Posted by: benson at September 3, 2009 10:02 AM
and now i put on my glasses and one of my colleagues said i look like sarah effing palin. i was like hey didn't you say she was hot? so does this mean you think i'm hot? THAT SHUT HIS ASS UP REAL FAST! hahahaha
Posted by: CG_ups at September 3, 2009 10:06 AM
sarah palin is so not hot.
Posted by: denton at September 3, 2009 10:08 AM
that kind of wasn't the point. nor would i brag about being some hot mama.
Posted by: CG_ups at September 3, 2009 10:09 AM
Benson, my fav has always been Rocco's on Ft. Hamilton between 64th and 65th (I am sure you know the place). He is also barely open now since he doesn't trust anyone with his restaurant and unless he is there, he keeps it closed. He doesn't work Sunday and only open weekdays and Saturday till 8. If he is sick or on vacation, he is closed. I went there a week ago only to kiss the metal gate. He had a sign saying he was on vacation for 2 weeks and will be closed.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 3, 2009 10:09 AM
Nice job CG!

MESSAGE FROM ROB
can you post this in OT for me!? im still banned. grrr
>...
i dont know if this is going to get thru or not, and if it doesn't, ive had it with this board and will be moving on. in re: to brooklyngreene... i prefer to read longer posts than short one sentence lines. i find short one sentence posts have no substance.
tho i literally almost sharted my underwear when i read this of hers..
"Look, why not go up to a group of kids who and give them enough money for pizza or a snack? The ol’ NYC “Kids, here (bill handed to kids). Go get yourself something to eat.” ??? Why not???"
um, that's the parents job to give them money for pizza and a snack. and i think if i went up to a bunch of kids and gave them money or snacks i'd be arrested!

ANOTHER MESSAGE FROM ROB
Also, if you want a good laugh, and give the people in OT a good laugh...
go here. someone linked this to me. it's another board i got banned at years ago! anyway, someone leaked that ive been posting on brownstoner, and then posted the link and now they are cutting and posting links of what i wrote from brownstoner lol. it starts around page 2 of this thread. feel free to link it in the OT, it's a funny read. btw, i go by beagle on that OT.

i thought mr b said he unbanned rob.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 3, 2009 10:15 AM
Rob is just a blog whore lol.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 3, 2009 10:15 AM
What happened to Mr. B's statement that he unbanned him? Maybe there's been a glitch somewhere and he forgot to let him on the main pages. Rob should email him and find out.
DONT LEAVE US ROB!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 10:15 AM
"i was like hey didn't you say she was hot? so does this mean you think i'm hot? THAT SHUT HIS ASS UP REAL FAST! hahahaha"
Why did he shut up? I would have said, "Yeah, I think you're hot." Is that bad?
Posted by: East New York at September 3, 2009 10:15 AM
Did Rob write to Mr. B about still being banned? Is it just a technical screw-up?
Posted by: Arkady at September 3, 2009 10:18 AM
ENY, in some offices, that comment would get you a free roundtrip ticket to HR.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 3, 2009 10:18 AM
he was embarassed. he was also trying to be annoying, bc he knows i am not a fan of la Palin
Posted by: CG_ups at September 3, 2009 10:19 AM
Arkady and Snappy, I told Rob to email Mr. B and asked him to check on the glitch and he refuses to do so.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 3, 2009 10:20 AM
Kens, make that a one way ticket to HR...then out the door!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 10:20 AM
Exactly ENY, but like K says, you can't say that stuff any more in a corporate environment. That's why I'm glad I work around guys.
Posted by: denton at September 3, 2009 10:21 AM
Snappy, good point, lol.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 3, 2009 10:22 AM
**PAGING MR. B. PAGING MR. B**
Rob is too stubborn to email you, but he (and the rest of us) thought he was unbanned per your statement a few days ago. He remains unable to post in the OT. I assume you have his email address (I don't have it) so could you please address this with him? Thank you!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 10:22 AM
Oh. OK, I get it. We have a respectful, friendly office and everyone here knows how and when to draw the line. Then again, I'm a PR guy and there are like seven beautiful women here and only four guys. Still, all of us guys here are accustomed to working around beautiful women so it's no big deal to us.
Posted by: East New York at September 3, 2009 10:22 AM
Ok, ok- BG made a really dumb statement, but someone else said lechacal was blaming the victim- so not true. BG seems very naive.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 3, 2009 10:23 AM
Mr. B - Ditto what Snappy said about Rob.
Posted by: Arkady at September 3, 2009 10:23 AM
I'll just email mr. b and ask him.
Posted by: denton at September 3, 2009 10:24 AM
I have to take harassment courses every 2 years, in case I forget and start harassing someone. Apparently you can't even say things like "oh those are nice shoes" or "that's a great color dress" or "Those earrings look great on you". All of those might be deemed as coming onto the person and make them feel uncomfortable.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at September 3, 2009 10:25 AM
CG_ups, am I rubbing off on you? Pretty soon, CGar will think you're a hot head too.
Posted by: more4less at September 3, 2009 10:26 AM
Is Mr. B still on vaca?
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 10:27 AM
Kens, those courses are to protect the firm and leave your ass all along on the hotplate if & when a suit comes - ie firm will say we informed & educated him such actions are not allowed by "he CHOSE" to go against that and...
Posted by: more4less at September 3, 2009 10:28 AM
I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin either, BTW. But I have to admit, she's not bad looking.
Posted by: East New York at September 3, 2009 10:29 AM
Snaps - His i.d. was on some stuff yesterday - but they may line it up in advance.
Posted by: Arkady at September 3, 2009 10:29 AM
Rob is like a nomad of the internet. I wonder where he'll end up next? Where ever it is, I'm sure it will be more the entertaining for him being there. :)
BTW. i haven't had my caffeine yet today. i thought i was being hilarious which is why i told my little story. i'm going to give myself the benefit of the doubt and just say if you knew the dysfunctional context, it was funny. end. i mean seriously, wtf wants to look like caribou barbie. bleh. AND seriously, i could not look less like her, which is kind of what makes it funny. so i thought.

OMG...in the crazy kids' names category:
"In 2007, New Zealand authorities blocked a couple's bid to officially name their new son "4Real," saying numerals are not allowed. And in July, a 9-year-old New Zealand girl was made a ward of the court so she could change her name from "Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii." She complained that it was embarrassing and a judge agreed. The girl's new name was not made public."
and
"New Jersey police said 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, seen above with his parents, and his younger sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation and Honszlynn Hinler, were taken from their home and put into state custody in January. The family drew attention in December when a bakery refused to put Adolf's name on a cake. "

"caribou barbie"
ROFL! CG, you are on fire these days!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 10:34 AM
"I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin either, BTW. But I have to admit, she's not bad looking. "
ENY, I salute you! You put your "guy-ness" above your politics.
Rob: don't go!! You are an integral part of the Stoner scene. Don't let Mr. B get to you. Stick around, and you'll get to him. As Mr. Koch used to say: "Don't get an ulcer, give an ulcer".
Posted by: benson at September 3, 2009 10:35 AM
Mr. B says... re Rob
"i'll double check but i unblocked his IP..."

"caribou barbie"
Yeah, that's a good one! Never heard that one before.
Posted by: East New York at September 3, 2009 10:38 AM
Did you see Gail Collins in The Times today - hilarious review of a t.v. appearance by Palin's not-son-in-law who said, among other things, that Sarah cannot shoot a gun accurately.
Posted by: Arkady at September 3, 2009 10:38 AM
Morning all.
So I was at a BBQ on my block a few weeks back and the conversation turned to Palin and one of my neighbors, a lesbian, said her wife LOVED Palin. Said there's this whole underground group of Lesbians that despite being as liberal as they come were very upset that she didn't get into office. I said are you serious? She said it's absolutely true, I'd be so surprised at the numbers.
Needless to say I AM surprised!
Can our resident lesbian Snappy confirm or deny these allegations?
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 3, 2009 10:39 AM
Thanks for checking, Denton :)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 10:40 AM
Snappy, I read about the Nazi family from Jersey a while ago. That just sent chill down my spine.

THL - Talk about cognitive dissonance!
Posted by: Arkady at September 3, 2009 10:41 AM
Benson,
I'm mad at you again. Why'd you have to go and mention Pane Panelle? My mouth is watering for one now!
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 3, 2009 10:42 AM
Um, I'm gonna have to disagree with them THL. All the lesbos I know were flat out disgusted by her. It's one thing to be proud at the prospect of having a woman take the VP position, but amongst the women I know, she was perceived as a real wind tunnel (no brains). Not that she's a full on dummy, but her lack of experience and knowledge about so many things left her looking like a second grader sitting in a college physics course. It was offensive to many of us that she felt she could get the female vote simply by tapping into the so-called 'soccer mom mentality.'
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 10:43 AM
Ha! Denton, that's gold! LOL
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 10:44 AM
zomg, germany or someplace has a list of names that are banned. and one of the names is sputnik. how cute would that be on a little boy. i joke. sort of. maybe i'd name a dog sputnik. or a hamster.
Posted by: CG_ups at September 3, 2009 10:46 AM
THL;
How about this: Pane Panelle and a "Manhattan Special" ????
Heeaavvannnnnnnnnn!!!
BTW: the lesbian group was not alone wrt Sarah Palin. There was a whole group of women called "PUMA" (Party Unity My Ass)who were upset at the way that Hillary was treated by the Obama campaign, and they threw their support to McCain after he selected Sarah.
Posted by: benson at September 3, 2009 10:46 AM
Snappy, I couldn't agree with you more. I was jaw dropped stunned when she said it.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 3, 2009 10:47 AM
"ENY, I salute you! You put your "guy-ness" above your politics."
You better believe it, Benson. What do I care about her politics? You can't f... aw, nevermind.
Posted by: East New York at September 3, 2009 10:48 AM
I think that it is in fact high time we saw a woman holding one of those two top offices, if not both at the same time, but it simply cannot come at the expense of the nation wrt experience and knowledge. Picking a woman for the sake of having a woman is just wrong. Same thing with any other classifications you can break society and politicians into. When a woman is presented to me that has the stuff I find necessary to lead our nation, she'll get my vote. Until then, the simple fact that she ovulates and pees sitting down is not gonna cut it for me.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 10:50 AM
I also think Palin is good looking
Posted by: more4less at September 3, 2009 10:51 AM
Ditto what Snappy said. All of my friends of the Sapphic persuasion were distinctly anti-Palin.
I remember the Party Unity My A** people. It seems like they were a rather small minority though, maybe a minivan-full.
Posted by: DitmasSnark at September 3, 2009 10:51 AM
CG_ups, don't revert back to your old nicey nice self on the blog. I'm really digging this new you.
Posted by: more4less at September 3, 2009 10:52 AM
Uh-oh. I'm resigning from Puma status.
Posted by: Arkady at September 3, 2009 10:52 AM
I guess I'm one of those sensitive guys... I actually have to like a woman before I can, you know...
Posted by: denton at September 3, 2009 10:52 AM
Manhattan Special?? Do tell!
The other thing I miss desperately about being in Brooklyn is the rice ball special. The big rice ball filled with meat and peas cut in half with a plop of ricotta and mozzarella with sauce baked in the oven. H E A V E N !!
I could literally hurt someone to have one in front of me right now.
The good new is we did find a pizza place out here that is a traditional NY pie. They're a transplanted Brooklyn family. Go figure! His menu is pretty limited though. Just heroes and the like none of the old school stuff.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 3, 2009 10:54 AM
aw cripes. i feel like if you have to say it, then it isn't so, but I AM NICE DAMMIT! bad M4L!!!

anyone good at cutting hair? will swap haircutting. i used to be pretty good at it in college.

I'm new to Park Slope. Is there anything I should know besides that it's made from the best stuff on earth?
Posted by: Park Slopery at September 3, 2009 10:55 AM
THL, this summer I had a rice ball like that somewhere in CG or BH I think. YUM! I wish I could recall the name of that place. Can anyone help me? It's near the BQE I think.

"Did you see Gail Collins in The Times today - hilarious review of a t.v. appearance by Palin's not-son-in-law who said, among other things, that Sarah cannot shoot a gun accurately."

mmmmm. THL, you ever have the rice balls from that deli on smith bet carroll and 1st place? humma humma.
Posted by: CG_ups at September 3, 2009 10:56 AM
I'm with snappy too. Any woman who went to McCain because they were upset over Hillary dealt a real blow to women, most especially after he picked Palin. talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 3, 2009 10:57 AM
I think that joint at the end of Union that benson mentioned, or perhaps another just like it, has those rice balls.
Posted by: denton at September 3, 2009 10:57 AM
CG_ups, all of us have a blog persona diff than the real self. Just because you're nice in person doesn't mean you cant be something diff on the blog
Posted by: more4less at September 3, 2009 10:57 AM
hey snaps. you can get riceballs almost anywhere in CG. esposito's does a giant one on court street. caputos further down court does a good one. and every pizza place in CG sells them pretty much but the best ones are the ones i mentioned above on smith bet carroll and 1st place in a non-descript looking deli. he deep fries them to order. humma humma
Posted by: CG_ups at September 3, 2009 10:58 AM
Snappy;
I think you are referring to Ferdinando's. See my post to Kens above.
THL
Yes, by "Manhattan Special", I mean the iced espresso coffee. BTW, this soda is a true original Brooklyn local delight. The name derives from Manhattan Ave. in Greenpoint, where it is brewed to this day.
Posted by: benson at September 3, 2009 10:59 AM
The Palins and thre Johnson's are classic examples of "what goes around, comes around." they'll be doing it for years- ugh.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 3, 2009 10:59 AM
"I actually have to like a woman before I can, you know..."
That's a good line, denton. Probably works.
Posted by: East New York at September 3, 2009 11:00 AM
pizza and calzone on union and columbia, have not had the riceballs there but i bet they're good. they're stromboli and calzone are out of this world.
Posted by: CG_ups at September 3, 2009 11:00 AM
CG...good to know. I just really wanna find the place I was at earlier this summer because it was FANFUCKINGTASTIC! I wanna go back there also because I enjoyed the vibe of the hood. I'm gonna have to do some googling. They were featured in the Time Out mag as part of a walking tour.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 11:01 AM
CG,
I cut my husbands hair all the time. I'm good with the clippers but that's it.
I'm "this close" to doing a major chop job on myself. My hair is really long at this point and i"m going to donate it to Locks For Love who provide wigs for children with cancer that wouldn't be able to otherwise afford them (Apparently real hair wigs are crazy pricey??). They need a minimum of 12" and while I have that I want to be able to still walk away with shoulder length hair. If I can't pull it into a pony tail I'll go bonkers.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 3, 2009 11:01 AM
M4L- are you trying to have a little lunchtime entertainment? Leave CG ups alone- she's still new and we want her to think we're all nice. (Until she learns the truth)
Posted by: bxgrl at September 3, 2009 11:01 AM
Amen, Snappy, Amen.
And, how Hillary was treated by the Obama campaign? WTF? He won, she lost, and for the most part, pretty ungraciously, up until the convention. I vaccillated between the two of them for a long time, until she started acting as if it was her right to get the nod, and Obama was taking something that was hers. He WON the nomination, and she didn't. I'm sorry, I think she's very smart, and extremely qualified for the office, but there was too much baggage (Bill)and too much polarization for her to have won. McCain would not have been able to handle everything that was dumped on Obama on day 1, and we'd be trying to figure out how to get Palin out of the big chair now. God, what a horrible thought.
Posted by: Montrose Morris at September 3, 2009 11:01 AM
how nice! a girl in my office just did locks for love. i thought it was 10" although if you can do more, i'm sure they appreciate it too. it's a wonderful charity.
Posted by: CG_ups at September 3, 2009 11:02 AM
Also, if you donate it to locks for love, there are a bunch of places that will cut your hair for free :)
Posted by: CG_ups at September 3, 2009 11:03 AM
Benson...that's it!!! Yes! Ferdinando's. That rice ball was so good I wanted to cry over the plate :)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 11:04 AM
I think I need to make a trip to Bklyn and buy a bunch of un-fried rice balls to take home and freeze. I can "special" them myself as needed.

You know what is interesting about Sarah Palin: she so un-nerves her opposition. Amazing. She's supposedly the dumbest person on the planet (according to her opposition), yet they can't stop writing about her, even after she's stepped down.
It reminds me of the old Coca-Cola commercial with Bill Cosby, where he looked into the TV camera holding up a can of Coke and asked "If all of those other sodas are better, why do they keep comparing themselves to Coke"?
Blog away!!

Spot on, MM. I was ambivalent too until it became obvious that Hillary wasn't changing her approach as the campaign situation changed which said to me that she was too inflexible & agenda-driven for the office.

Yeah, if that's a sign of the person's intelligence, then Paris Hilton is smarter than Stephen Hawking.

Benson, she's not a dumb woman by any stretch of the imagination. She's just out of her league in terms of national/international politics. I think she remains in the media because the media (and most consumers of the media'a antics) love a good whipping boy/girl.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 11:08 AM
I don't think Palin's dumb but I do think she's crazy. And people continue to write about her because she's plumping to run again & keeps putting herself in the public eye. It's the same as all of us having opinions about just about anything on here.

Un-nerves? Yes, she un-nerves me... in the same way that having a 6 year old driving a semi-trailer at rush hour on the BQE un-nerves me. SHE IS A DISASTER.

She doesn't unnerve anyone, it's more of a sense of amazement and wonder that someone that unprepared, unqualified, and unimaginative could have been put up by anyone for the job of Vice President of the United States, especially when the top of the ticket is a senior citizen with a heart condition and a volcanic temperment.
I'd be more than happy, overjoyed, even, if the press would leave her alone totally. I don't think she's worth the effort, or the attention.

By the way- people aren't comparing anyone to her (a la coke). They're comparing her to those with greater learning, experience and intellectual capacity. And she has been found sorely lacking. If anyone was held up as the example of a capable woman it was Hillary. Palin was held up as who not to be.

i kinda think the point benson was making (which has been proven actually) is that people go completely tunnel vision re: sarah palin. granted she's kind of a doof, but there are plenty of doof politicians out there. any sort of arguments about her tend to be kind of singular though. i don't think he was saying that she is some great politician, but more that intelligent, well-spoken people turn a bit foamy at the mouth about her. feel free to correct me if i'm wrong benson.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at September 3, 2009 11:36 AM
Very true, CG. She is not the only one that should be called out. I think that she is catching the flak partly because, as Arkady said, she continues to shove herself in front of the public eye (which isn't necessarily a horrible thing considering that she wants to run again and needs the exposure) and because she is the media whipping boy du jour. When the media latches on to something, its hard for the public at large to let it go because that is what we are fed. And conversely, the media feeds the public what the public wants. It's a vicious cycle that continues ad nauseum.

The reason people get so bent out of shape over her is that this is a woman who aspired to be Vice-President and showed absolutely no capability for the job. None. Zilch. She was nasty, venal, a race-baiter and had no difficulty trying to claim (or imply strongly) that Obama was connected to terrorists. She kept harping on his middle name (which he didn't pick for himself).
Her thinking is shallow and misinformed on major issues. She's a true media hog- until it works against her. She is inept, she is a religious fanatic and picking her for running mate was a slap in the face to any number of eminently qualified, capable republican women with brains who never won a beauty contest.
And she is completely delusional to think she was qualified to be VP, let alone POTUS should anything have happened to McCain.

Posted by: cobblehiller at September 3, 2009 11:51 AM
To play devil's advocate here for a minute:
"Her thinking is shallow and misinformed on major issues. " To us and other liberals, yes. To her following, no. As much as we love to believe we are in the right regarding our politics, there are others, many others, who have opposing views and are as staunch about their correctness as we are about ours. Clearly she had/has many people who love her, and not for any perceived physical beauty. While many republicans and other non-republican conservative identified voters may agree that she was not *the* most qualified, many obviously felt a certain level of comfort with her capabilities or I presume they would not have voted for a ticket that included her.
(this devil's advocate thing is hard! get your buns back in here Benson!)

Hi folks;
I've gotta go, but I'll wrap up a few thoughts.
Where did I take a pot-shot at Montrose? I took a shot at the choir - big difference. Think about it.
CG_Ups;
You've got it about right, but there is more to it. What was amazing to me was the reaction to Palin THE DAY AFTER she was nominated,by people who (at that time) knew NOTHING about her. As an example, see Maureen Dowd's column the day after she was announced, when, I repeat, she knew nothing about Sarah Palin.
The Wall St.Journal editorial board corretly characterized this phenomenon: the elites on the coasts of the US were horrified that one of their crowd was not named. She didn't go to one of the elite schools, they hadn't met her before in the CNN Green Room, she just didn't travel in the same circles as them. For God's sake, this woman hunts!!!!
As the above thread demonstrates, however, this is a ju-jitsu (spelling?) situation. In their foaming-at-the-mouth beat-down of her, they instantly made a hero out of her to the folks between the coasts. The fact that she doesn't back down, in the face of these vicious attacks, only adds to her appeal to these folks.

Who's Sarah Palin?
Posted by: Expert Textpert at September 3, 2009 11:53 AM
I think Palin exposes a lot of the cultural fault lines in the US, to a greater degree than most politicians.
On the right, people like her because they see her as someone that states her case plainly and unashemedly.
More broadly, the left has never understood working- or lower- middle class conservatives. So they dismiss them as stupid, or provincial, or religious nuts or the like.
I voted McCain / Palin and would do so again given the choice. I think that now, however, Palin has most to contribute by not being in elected office. She should be a position herself commentator - the kind of person that can float unpopular or radical ideas without having to refer to an electorate.

"many obviously felt a certain level of comfort with her capabilities or I presume they would not have voted for a ticket that included her."

CG ups- She is a dangerous doof who came this close to being VPOTUS and possibly POTUS. For those of us who care about this country she was no laughing matter. Flakes like Huckabee are too wacky, but McCain picking her gave her credibility- which she quickly blew. She infuriates me because of what she symbolizes- I'm not wacky about it. I'm passionate about it.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 3, 2009 12:02 PM
benson- funny, you didn't mention the Biff amen choir- just the MM one. I love the fantasy of why people dislike her- common man hero! Speaks unashamedly and "honestly." Great media spin- delusional and inaccurate, but very well done spin. As for knowing nothing about her? Well, her speech certainly said a lot. Not about anything important, but a lot. She went on the attack and whoa- big surprise, got hit back.
Palin speaks in platitudes and political punch lines. Anyone who thinks an honest word or opinion came out of her mouth doesn't know much about political groomers. She was a construct of Republican fantasies of being mavericks. Mavericks- right. Real Mavericks go their own way and wouldn't go into politics if you paid them.
"More broadly, the left has never understood working- or lower- middle class conservatives. So they dismiss them as stupid, or provincial, or religious nuts or the like."
And that is a crock. The left traditionally was made up of the working and lower middle class, unlike the republicans who are mostly white and wealthy. But they pander to the worst in the "lesser classes" because they need the base.

Never said that the majority of working class people were Republican, just that the left does not understand why those that choose to be make that decision.
Why should being a conservative be described as 'the worst'? Why do you assume that such people can't make up their own minds?

hey, what's with all the hatin' on Sarah Palin?
here's why she is appealing;
-she comes up from a grass roots past. Alaskan with small town appeal.
-she is for the second amendment and not apolegetic about it.
-she is a woman with religious faith. period.
those who want to throw stones at that should also throw stones at the many religious people around us here in nyc such as the observant muslims, babtists in bed-stuy, hassidics in williamsburg/crown heights, mormons walking around in white shirts and black ties, conservative sephardic jews along ocean avenue and the myriad others who express themselves religiously.
-she has charisma, like it or not. she's attractive and can speak in front of a crows (this scares the left for some reason)
- Despite the SNL skits and the Maureen Dowd zombies, she has brains, how would she get into a position running the largest state in the union without some mental capacity. Let's not even be facetious about it. You have to have an IQ above 100 to run a large scale operation.
- She is not the Ivy League clone that the left would often seek. This appeals to the conservative base who often mistrusts these ivy league "superstars" like Tim Geithner or Jaime Gorelick or Robert Mcnamarra.
-hey, I wouldn't put her on top of the Republican ticket, Mitt Romney was the better choice, but she has appeal, and at least she is not as hypocritical as Hillary Clinton who has stood by her man only out of political expediency.

etson- I wasn't referring to conservatives as "the worst"- I was referring to the right wing extremists, racists and religious fanatics Coulter, Rush, Beck, etc.) I read that a number of republicans are actually not too happy with the way the party has been letting the extremists act as the face of the party. And your statement "the left doesn't understand" is a little on the assumptive side, isn't it?
Snappy- I am encrusting the robes with rhinestones as we speak. they will have a spectacular pattern on the hem, sleeves and collar as well as a full color, rhinestone portrait of biff semi-nude on the back. I rented an air gun so I could airbrush 6 pac abs on him. Each robe will have a detached scarf of ruffled, gold handmade venetian lace, also edged in rhinestones. I want you to also know I speared no expense as to quality. these robes are fully lined polyester satin and the rs are swarovski.

Kens, the Biff Amen Choir is multi-denominational. We're also appearing in October at the new shul / budget hotel in Los Angeles: Temple Beth Western.

There is something amazingly charming about these homes. I can't put my finger on it but maybe it is how rustic they are compared to everything here in the city, where all new construction is always slick and shiny.

Ok, she's decent looking.
That mumbled-jumbo-gumbo stew is considered speaking? Wow. I have yet to hear her speak english fluently or fluidly.
"Despite the SNL skits and the Maureen Dowd zombies, she has brains, how would she get into a position running the largest state in the union without some mental capacity. Let's not even be facetious about it. You have to have an IQ above 100 to run a large scale operation."
First of all, it's largest only in LAND MASS. Not population, which is less than ONE million residents.
Second of all, an IQ of 100 is not saying much. I prefer my leaders to have a higher IQ than me.

on another topic,
if you haven't seen it in person, this is something you MUST see at least once in your lifetime.
A space shuttle launching.
I caught the one this past weekend in Cape Canaveral,
launched at about 12:01 AM.
AMAZING. Like watching a star rising from the horizon, with the earth shaking beneath you.
God Bless America.

I will not be held responsible for the people getting trampled in the rush to exit the venue after said robes are unveiled. Does semi-nude mean my privates will be blurred out and covered with fairy dust or whatever it was that CG_ups used to describe me and the Ken doll the other day?

cobblehiller,
so you are for a meritocracy?
I have no problem with electing leaders based on minimal IQ requirements, it's just that the consituition prohibits this.
I think you'd be surprised about the IQ's of some of our so-called leaders.
As far as Sarah Palin is concerned, my suspicion is that her intelligence is above normal, as 100 is the statistical mean for intelligence with half of our population falling below.
Posted by: Legion at September 3, 2009 12:39 PM
Biff, your comedic talents are wasted at the Death Star.
Snark, I've long wished to roam the streets of Park Slope, now Ditmas (I'll need a car) crying "Snark, Snark, come out of your house. A middle aged black woman, your biggest fan since the classic 'Brooklyn Rhapsody', wants to give you a hug!"
A reason to re-enter the closet if there ever was one.

Next to military spending, to me, the most appalling use of taxpayer money is on the space program. Yes, America, you have a big swinging dick. Big effing deal.
Now, how about using that money on healthcare, hunger, poverty, education, etc.?

"She is not the Ivy League clone that the left would often seek. "
Legion- are you kidding? Have you ever looked at the bios of Republicans? Looked at their demographics? Please!
"she is a woman with religious faith. period." She is a religious extremist who wants the End of Days so she and her ilk can go to heaven and the rest of us to Hell. Religious fanaticism is not the same thing as religious faith. It's the dangerous belief that G-d is on our side- and only your side.
And as far as Hillary Clinton- whatever her marriage to Bill (and unless you're a fly on their wall, you know squat about their true relationship), Palin in her wildest dreams could never have accomplished as much or done so much as Hillary Clinton. She has her issues- but brains, experience and accomplishments aren't any of them.

Given the fact she couldn't make it through a single term it is fair to say she is unfit for that office too.

Biff,
In the winter, will the choir be at B'nai Slalom in Killington?
Meanwhile, about Palin. To answer the original question, she's not my type. I don't think I could get through dinner. As for exposing cultural fault lines, I think she altered them. I know a number of red state older educated republicans who found the pick irresponsible and voted for Obama. These were folks who vote democrat as often as I vote republican. Say what you want, the election was pretty close until she started doing interviews, although that may be more correlation than causation since her interviews coincided with the financial meltdown and McCain's weird non-suspension of his campaign. Palin's performance and McCain's response to the meltdown told a lot of people everything they needed to know about what kind of a president McCain would have been. The electorate broke really hard in late September.
Enjoy your weekend Benson.
Posted by: slopefarm at September 3, 2009 12:57 PM
but lechacal- I think we can also agree the bashing works both ways, except conservatives accuse liberals of destroying everything from grandma to government. Wouldn't it be great to have the politics of cooperation for once?
oooooh legion... einstein-bose condensate. I love when you talk like that :-)
Posted by: bxgrl at September 3, 2009 12:58 PM
legion, dear, you're the one that brought up IQ, not me. Palin shows an incredible lack of curiosity—an indicator of intelligence. I'd be surprised, actually shocked, if she was over 110. I'll give her a few extra points for cunning.
Posted by: cobblehiller at September 3, 2009 12:59 PM
Legion, I have a conference call and can't debate this now, but we would have had computers and silicon chips without launching rockets into space. The money could have been spent and research done without all that.
"-a greater understanding of man's place in this universe"
I would prefer they spend the money trying to cure cancer. But that's just me.
Posted by: Biff Champion at September 3, 2009 12:59 PM
"say what you want, the election was pretty close until she started doing interviews"
I think that if McCain had picked Lieberman like he wanted to it would have been a hell of a close race. Palin lost McCain far more votes than she won him.

Oh I can see those Montrose! - like the Carol Burnett's dress from Gone with the Wind. You'll have a tasteful, architecturally correct curtain rod through the shoulders? FYI- if you put those wooden carved columns down the front opening and dentil molding around the sleeves your choir will have trouble waving their arms in the air ;)
Posted by: bxgrl at September 3, 2009 1:02 PM
leschal,
I don't necessarily disagree with you or bxgrl, that Palin is not fit for the highest office.
I do object to the pervasive tone in the major media and comedy shows and movies and chat rooms, that conservativism equals stupidity.
At the very least, we should start any thoughtful political discussion with the understanding that there are equally intelligent people on both sides of the political spectrum.
That being said, I think that classic Phil Hartman, Ronald Reagan skit is one of the funniest political skits ever. The one where Phil Hartman plays the doting elderly man for the children visiting the white house then quickly transforms into an evil mastermind with world maps and secret panels opening up spontaneously in the Oval Office, as he shouts his orders a mile a second.

Legion- the conservatives fight there all democrats are eveil and out to decimate this country on different turf, where it is sadly proving effective. While SNL make make comedy hash of conservatives- they actually go after the extremists. They go after liberals too. In fact they go after everybody. Conservatives use the huge ultraconservative press and media too- Fox News, Rush, Laura Ingraham (a dolt, sorry- but true), Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, Pat (Gotta love Hitler) Robertson. There is no dearth of conservative media.

Legion,
You probably never saw Jim Morris do his Reagan impersonation during the second term. Whole stand up routine was a press conference, with random questions from the audience. Uncanny.
Posted by: slopefarm at September 3, 2009 1:09 PM
Legion, we are in agreement about conservatism not meaning stupidity. That being said I am a fiscal conservative, i.e. a classical liberal, not a social conservative. There really is almost no agreement any more on what it means to be conservative. Considering your "God bless America" comment earlier (like you were getting a stiffie just because of a big rocket) I suspect we come from different brands of conservatism.
BTW my grandfather was president of the NRA. Thought you might appreciate that. No, Charleton Heston was not my grandfather - my grandfather was president a while before him.

lechacal- I think you made the Snarkettes with that. If you can't sing, you can play drums.
for the record- I don't think conservatism means stupidity either. But the equating of conservatism with stupidity is a media spin from the right. Or have neither of you ever heard what they say about liberals?

biff,
there are many examples of NASA research being utilized for cancer treatment and cures, for example
the bioscan system that detects vascularity linked to tumors, charge coupled devices to better detect breast cancer, complex software to extract patterns from complex data sets for use in detecting cancer cell abnormalities or photo dynamic therapy to activate cancer drugs in vivo.
I just think there is a lot of positive to be gained by pushing the limits of space.

bxgrl - It's not the media that uses that ad hominem attack; it it, in my experience, the average young northeastern liberal. Older people tend not to do it as much. Liberals on college campuses - young, inexperienced, and being filled with ideas by their professors, but without any real judgment or perspective - are the worst offenders.

the space program is great, i can't believe you guys are bashing it. at some point as a little kid, you didn't want to be an astronaut and walk on the moon? in terms of more practical applications, there is a ton of invaluable research occuring on the space station. and it's a wonderful thing to be able to learn more about things beyond our planet. don't you guys watch nat geo on the weekends? good stuff! seriously, it's fascinating. explore the boundaries of your mind kind of stuff.

I am proud to be chosen to be a Snarkette. I promise to hold true to the principles and dictates of Snarkology, and promise to hold up my end of the second soprano section, singing all those notes in the middle of the chord, which ain't easy. I come to the job with my own tambourine, and a decent sense of rhythm, somewhere in the lower middle between the talents of Tina Turner, and the absence of any rhythmic ability as evidenced in my father.
Posted by: Montrose Morris at September 3, 2009 1:21 PM
lechacal,

did I miss the memo where showing a little bit of patriotism was somehow unseemly and declasse?
all I said was that I saw the space shuttle going off, which happened to have minority americans aboard, and it was thrilling. God Bless America is not a perjorative term in my book.
and notice how I keep the G capitalized for extra-sensitive types like you.
lol.
Posted by: Legion at September 3, 2009 1:21 PM
Legion - Biff is objectively right on this. We could have developed any of those things for a fraction of the cost without going into space. The space program was about national pride (and you being able to watch the space shuttle take off, saluting with one hand and you-know-whating with the other).

The space program may be a matter of national pride or an expensive way to find new toys but somehow the idea of exploring space, seeking new worlds and getting a front row seat to the Universe is plain old thrilling. I love science fiction- since I was a child. The worlds I could only visit in my imagination might someday be homes for man's descendants- and wouldn't it be wonderful to find we are not alone? Maybe some alien intelligence who could finally smack some sense into us as a species.

Posted by: Legion at September 3, 2009 1:39 PM
I'm not against the space program, I just pointed out that Biff is right that those things could have been developed at less cost without the program. I just want to make sure the debate is an honest one. We didn't go to the moon for the advancement of science, we went to the moon because we wanted to get there before the Soviets. When we succeeded we all got a big national stiffie out of it and our there were probably all kinds of intangible benefits that came out of it.
We are of course just talking about manned space exploration here - ie throwing tons of metal and people into orbit or beyond just to be there. Obviously there is a lot of metal in space doing useful things like processing phone calls and credit card payments and such.

I might be the only person in America who also cringes with embarrassment when they do a fly over (or whatever it's called) with fighter jets at sports events. And yes, I still consider myself patriotic.
"Legion - Biff is objectively right on this. We could have developed any of those things for a fraction of the cost without going into space."
lechacal, EXACTLY. Some wonderful and practical advances have been made by the military as well. Should that justify all military spending? Does that make it right to spend $500 on a hammer, invade Iraq at a cost of hundreds of billions of dollars and countless innocent lives, etc.?
Ok, back to frivolity and corny one-liners. The Death Star is stressing me out enough!

Posted by: lechacal at September 3, 2009 1:43 PM
Can't disagree with any of that biff. Still my heart soars with every Hubble picture I see. But I find it inappropriate for fighter jets to do flyovers at sport events. Takes some of the meaning out of it- and it shouldn't.

biff,
advancements come out of necessity. much of our greatest acheivements have arisen from our worst tendencies like war and conflict.
much medical research and advancement comes out of conflict, sad to say,
Lister made his greatest discoveries on anti-sepsis from battle field observation,
the first world war experiences provided much of the basis of plastic surgery advancements used today.
look at it this way, the money will be spent one way or another, isn't it better to spend in pursuit of an ultimate answer? at least before the next gamma ray burst blows our atmosphere away. 2012 is only 3 years away. lol.

This whole outer space stuff scares me. In the movies - whenever alien life make contact, they are always pissed off and destroy new york city first. Why not Mobile, Alabama?
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 3, 2009 1:57 PM
"lech is gonna be crushed when he gets back from his meeting Biff"
For some reason I don't think he'll get over it quite quickly.
"advancements come out of necessity. much of our greatest acheivements have arisen from our worst tendencies like war and conflict."
In my opinion, the ends do not justify the means. What came out of the Vietnam or Iraq invasions to justify the cost, in terms of lives and dollars? The US Government disgraced itself in the world's eyes and proved it can be amongst the world's worst human rights violators. Legion, I don't think we'll ever agree on this topic. However, I am totally digging this new fraternizing side of you in the OT and do respect your passion and intelligence, even when we disagree.

Anyway, like I was saying I freakin' love combat aircraft. And military equipment generally. I used to sail around in an Arleigh Burke class destroyer. That was fun, but not as fun as standing next to a runway and having an F-16 do a low fly by. God DAMN that's sweet. But I'm basically a 13 year old boy in a 34 year old body. Legion - I never said I don't dig it - I was busting on you for that corny "God bless America" routine. I was in the gym running on the treadmill a while ago and watching the news when they cut to the space shuttle launching. As they started firing the main engines I cranked the treadmill to the absolute max speed and max incline and just freakin' killed it because what I was wathing was just dripping with awesome. I see an F-15 and I think "awesome". I don't think "God bless America". That's the crucial difference between a conservative who believes in intelligent use of miliatary supremacy (me) and a conservative who I suspect misconstrues having power with being right (you - I mean come on, a big rocket means God bless America? but I digress and I suspect we have plenty in common and I should stop busting your chops about it).

it's a PLEASURE to just dump my garbage and have someone else take care of it. It's funny though b/c my husband and I are so used to breaking down boxes and taping them together for trash that we still did that with our moving boxes when we brought them down to the basement for the super to take, only to find all the other renters just left their boxes all willy-nilly and not broken down!

lechal,
you're the one, reading into my statements too much. You make a large assumption in saying that I equate might with right. As I stated, there were minority Americans on that shuttle Saturday. Only in America does one rise from an underpriviliged background, one of the two hispanic astronauts was a migrant worker, to work on the international space station.
God Bless America.

OK, I'm going to go ahead and weigh in on Sarah Palin's looks. She's actually kind of hot. The problem is that - like Winona Ryder - the hotness evaporates as soon as she opens her mouth and speaks. Her political personality is so grating that it's hard to separate her physical hotness from the fact that her brain is a 50 year old guy with a beer gut. If she were a deaf mute she would be much hotter.

and the word crotchfruit will no longer be part of my vocabulation. from now on all children will be referred to as pupa!
"
Pupae are usually immovable and are largely defenseless. To overcome this, a common feature is concealed placement. There are some species of Lycaenid butterflies who are protected in their pupal stage by ants. Another means of defense by other species of pupae is the capability of making sounds or vibrations to scare potential predators. A few species use chemical defenses including toxic secretions. The pupae of social hymenopterans are protected by adult members of the hive."

Montrose will design mine. Probably the American Gothic guy, but with a beard and a political t-shirt from some left-over 80s cause (Free East Timor, perhaps?) and a solar powered tractor in the background.
Posted by: slopefarm at September 3, 2009 3:39 PM
slopefarm- gonna need a pitchfork though, ain't cha?
Posted by: bxgrl at September 3, 2009 3:42 PM
Yes, bx, isn't the American Gothic guy holding one? That's what I had in mind.
Posted by: slopefarm at September 3, 2009 3:46 PM
I can lend you a pitchfork for your sitting :-)
Posted by: bxgrl at September 3, 2009 3:48 PM
Don't forget the artisanal hay, Slopey. We can put the Bhutanese nun on the tractor in the background.
Posted by: Montrose Morris at September 3, 2009 3:48 PM
What will you have slopey wear? I suggest a late 60's era long fringe vest as a refernece to his origins, and a silk full sleeved shirt with ALexis shoulderpads to show his transitioning into the 80's.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 3, 2009 3:53 PM
This is getting to be some avatar. If you can get the Bhutanese nun to drive the solar tractor back and forth in the background behind me, that would be amazing. I'd even use it on what's blog.

Posted by: benson at September 3, 2009 4:03 PM
***crickets**** OK I'll go.
So as a result of my move last weekend I now take two trains to work. I get on the F at 7th Ave and take it one stop to the M/R at 9th St, then take either the M or R to the financial district. When I was in North Slope I would walk down to the M/R at Union Street. What has been a big surprise to me is that my commute time has actually gone *down*. I guess it's because I live spitting distance from the F stop so I do very little walking and there are enough trains in the morning that the transfer is always really quick.

Make that avatar!
Welcome back Rob!
The discussion above is kind of weird, in that it combines two topics (space shuttle disaster and military cost over-runs) that are one in the same to me. Let me explain.
I once worked for a sub-contractor on a top-secret military project called "Commando Fox", and that is about all I can tell you about it. I had to design a safety-release mechanism that was supposed to go into effect only during a "100-year storm", as it is called. Well, the mechanism released about 3 months after the system went into place, due to the incompetence of the prime contractor.
A military commission was formed to investigate the reason for the problem and cost over-runs, and I had to testify. I remember that the top presiding officer was a 3-star general, and the trial was at an Air Force base in Florida. In the middle of my testimony, the news of the Challenger disaster came to us, and the trial was postponed for a couple of hours. There was complete silence as we all watched the TV. The emotion was running high in that Air Force base. I'll never forget that day.
My company was exonerated at the trial, btw. I knew the problem was not my design. I had my ducks in a row.
Commando Fox was my most fun work experience. I was at sea off a Pacific Island for almost 3 months, climbing aboard off-shore platforms and other neat stuff. Ah, those were the days!

Snark- one of my favorite websites! My cat moose is white with gray spots. The one on his head sports a rather Hitlerian hairdo look. One night he gets his nose dirty and the look was complete. He creeped me out so badly I rushed him into the sink for a face washing. He called me a catnazi :( (well, in so many meows).

Posted by: TownhouseLady at September 3, 2009 5:10 PM

My guess is Rob simply pissed Mr. B. off by dissing Jscheff in the Carlton Mews thread and going off on kids in the Sunset Park thread, although Mr. B never did say exactly why he banned Rob.
I agree that ghettoazz...etc. was much worse. For some reason he/she went after Dave in a personal and very nasty way that was uncalled for.

Hmmm...ok. Maybe I'll dump that round of food and give him more in a new bowl and see what he does with it. Annoying! I soak the dry food in water so he can chew it easier and he now refuses to eat it dry at all. Unfortunately the damned food takes 20 minutes to soften! I guess he'll have to wait a while until he can nom again. Picky little bastard!

"haha biff - does the death star have any opening in their mail room?"
The days of starting in the mailroom, hanging out with a couple of traders, and getting a mentor to help you rise up thru the ranks are long gone.
Today all WS firms 'outsource' the entire operation. This way they can brag about what great salaries and benefits they offer their 'associates' while screwing the mostly minority workforce that make up the mailroom, cafeteria, and security staff.
Not to let the liberals off the hook either, that bastion of liberalism, the NYT, did the same thing three years ago.

snaps- my kitty Little Stevie Wonder does that too so I looked online. Lo and Behold, they are trying to cover their food to protect and hide it from the other vicious, hungry animals who live with you. It's supposed to be a symptom of trust and confidence in their surroundings rather than an opinion :-)
Stevie also will run to the litterboxes after another cat has used one and do the scratchy-hidey thing in each one, no matter if they haven't been used. It's hilarious- I call her the little housefrau.
