did the midget butler in front of the bed stuy house come with the deal?

The facade of the BedStuy home is making me dizzy.
Is it some sort of optical illusion?
Posted by: Biff Champion at September 4, 2009 11:09 AM
That was damn offensive, rob. Do you ever think before you post?
Posted by: bxgrl at September 4, 2009 11:22 AM
biff- bad photo,
Posted by: bxgrl at September 4, 2009 11:23 AM
um why exactly was it offensive? what's offensive is some broker taking a picture of someone standing in front of their home to sell to vultures.
*rob*
Posted by: Butterfly at September 4, 2009 11:25 AM
rob- get a grip- vultures? That's a child in front of the house in Bed-stuy. Why is a black person a "butler?" For all you know, that kid could be a biologist.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 4, 2009 11:29 AM
"Why is a black person a "butler?" "
Oh brother. Please don't pull a "the what" on us
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 4, 2009 11:33 AM
arnt butlers normally old white guys?
also the house next to the bed stuy house looks like a winner.
Posted by: Santa at September 4, 2009 11:36 AM
DH- what is your problem with going after me today? And if you don't get why his comment is offensive I have nothing to say to you except get a good history book.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 4, 2009 11:38 AM
"arnt butlers normally old white guys?"
Not in "Gone With the Wind" they aren't.
Posted by: East New York at September 4, 2009 11:40 AM
I like arguing with you sometimes bxgrl ;)
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 4, 2009 11:40 AM
Please don't make me kick you in the shins. It just makes me feel immature and childish. :-)
Posted by: bxgrl at September 4, 2009 11:43 AM
oh PUHLEASE bxgirl, dont even DARE bring race into it. 1.) my fav. butler is white. HELLO Mr. Belvedere. and 2.) remember that post i made a while back asking people how i could become a butlet? not everything is about race. jeez. so someone cant comment on someone who is black without it being about them being black? get a grip on reality chile!
*rob*
Posted by: Butterfly at September 4, 2009 11:45 AM
oh nevermind. i dont think you were being serious.
*rob*
Posted by: Butterfly at September 4, 2009 11:47 AM
I think you're the one who needs to get a grip. You have no idea about what you post. Do you have no clue as to racial stereotyping? Had that kid been white and the house in Park Slope, I doubt you would have said "midget butler."
"so someone cant comment on someone who is black without it being about them being black?" Not when it uses a stereotype.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 4, 2009 11:49 AM
"Do you ever think before you post?" -
uh, the answer to that is pretty obvious.
Posted by: Petebklyn at September 4, 2009 12:00 PM
had that kid been white i would have still called him a midget butler. you have the biggest racial chip on your shouldar i have EVER seen. stop looking for things that aren't there. seriously. accusing me of "racism" is just ridiculous. and most butlers are WHITE.
i never knew it was a stereotype that black were butlers. who knew!
and if that was park slope i would have probably said something even nastier. but you wouldnt have totally not hit your radar cuz it's not a "racist" thing.
like i said, get a grip.
*rob*
Posted by: Butterfly at September 4, 2009 12:09 PM
Rob- you need to up your reading comprehension. If I wanted to call you a racist, I would have said, "Rob- you're a racist." Instead, I said what you posted was offensive. I kept it to your insensitive post. Most butlers in this country were African American, not white. If you didn't know, you haven't paid attention to your American history. And while I my be "overly" sensitive to racism, it's a far sight better than being ignorant and insensitive.

Can we get back at commenting about the sales now? Thanks!
What do you think the BedStuy house would have sold for if the house next door would have looked just like it and not like a bombed out shell? 100k more perhaps?
Posted by: SunsetSunday at September 4, 2009 12:17 PM
The Bed-Stuy house is pretty far out there, where does Bed-Stuy end and East New York begin?
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 4, 2009 12:21 PM
I'm fairly certain it will get torn down. Looking at the houses on each side, the condition must be really bad.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 4, 2009 12:23 PM
Hmm- I was to restate that- just judging from the house on the left. The other house looks cared for.
Posted by: bxgrl at September 4, 2009 12:24 PM
@ dirty_hipster: I'd say somewhere around Broadway Junction would be the border between Bed-Stuy and East NY.
Posted by: SunsetSunday at September 4, 2009 12:31 PM
I dodn't think Rob's post should be deemed offensive to African Americans at all, but it is possibly offensive to little people.
The house on the left rocks.
That's Hicks St. house would easily go for $500k+ two years ago, no?
Posted by: Brokedeveloper at September 4, 2009 12:50 PM
"I dodn't think Rob's post should be deemed offensive to African Americans at all, but it is possibly offensive to little people."
Yeah, I assumed that offense was taken over the use of the term 'midget,' and I thought Rob's comment was kinda clever.
I've never encountered any real life butlers, and the only fictional ones that come to mind are P.G. Woodhouse's Jeeves and the guy in Remains of the Day.
Bay Ridge house seems nice, but is it really only 1,250 square feet?
Posted by: Sparafucile at September 4, 2009 1:04 PM
Rob you suggested BUYING a black child to perform a service for you. An antiquated service. On your property. That is as racist as you can possibly get.
if you saw a black kid in a car would you ask if you could buy him with the car as your midget driver?
if you were in public office you would have already resigned by now, two hours and ten minutes after making that comment.
Posted by: joe_the_bummer at September 4, 2009 1:14 PM
Or Wadsworth from Clue and the beforementioned Mr. Belvedere.
Posted by: Brokedeveloper at September 4, 2009 1:14 PM
how about some good old classic bear : bull debate?
Antidope,
if you're waiting for the usual cast to show up, dont bother cause think they're on vac
Posted by: more4less at September 4, 2009 1:18 PM
and everyone who opines on whether that comment "should be deemed offensive", ask a black person. White people don't get to decide what should be offensive to black people.
Posted by: joe_the_bummer at September 4, 2009 1:19 PM
Rob, that was offensive. one can debate the degree of offensiveness but it is offensive
Posted by: more4less at September 4, 2009 1:22 PM
"Or Wadsworth from Clue and the beforementioned Mr. Belvedere."
Um, Benson(TV)? Rochester (Jack Benny's valet)?
Posted by: East New York at September 4, 2009 1:22 PM
The Bay Ridge row home, hardly a "McMansion" , is about location. It sits directly across the street from Owl's Head Park, facing mature foliage and a recently renovated pre-war parkhouse. It likely provides a private parking area in the rear of the home that is accessed from a communal drive further down the street. The home is also close to the Shore Road and related promenade/pier/ recreation areas.

you people are bonkers. now lil jeeves fetch me my 40.
*rob*
Posted by: Butterfly at September 4, 2009 1:43 PM
I'm offended by Rob calling the little boy a "midget butler" only because he's obviously dressed inappropriately for the job!
Posted by: GHB at September 4, 2009 2:24 PM
I'm just amused because Devoe Street and Gunther street are essentially the same kind of wood-frame little house. Charming in their own right -- but with a real value far closer to $200K than 800K.
And yes, I realize location counts for a great deal -- but in pre-boom days, so did things like quality.
Posted by: Heather at September 4, 2009 2:28 PM
is it little people or midget now days?

the devoe house is on one of the very nicest blocks in italian (east) williamsburg. tree canopy and charm that can't be found on but a handful of other streets in all of williamsburg.
Posted by: mt_molehill at September 4, 2009 3:44 PM
Totally molehill - the streets south of metro btw union and graham aves are great. i consider this "prime williamsburg" as opposed to most who think west of the BQE is.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at September 4, 2009 4:07 PM
Wait, why is Rob "Butterfly" now? What did I miss?
Posted by: rh at September 4, 2009 5:48 PM
