Streetlevel: Tribeca Pediatrics Opening in the Slope
The old Century 21 on 5th Avenue near the corner of 8th Street will become a Tribeca Pediatrics office. According to the sign in the window and the company's website, the office will be a collaboration with RealBirth, "a renowned educational resource for parents." GMAP

Oh man... Corcoran is getting really good! They convinced them that this location was in Tribeca! :-)

East Tribeca.

Of far greater importance, the liquor store next door, a relic with bullet-proof Plexiglas, has closed. What will replace it?

I guess I'll post this here also since it's obviously not going to be highlighted, despite my tip.
A new art gallery called Madarts Studio Gallery has opened on the corner of 10th Street and 5th Avenue. Opened at the beginning of July and looks way cool:

I just saw that gallery yesterday. Looked very cool indeed.

The RealBirth people are a great group, took a class w/ them at their Chelsea location before the birth of my son. They should do really well in the Slope.

You should write this place up also...

Tribeca pediatrics is such an awesome group. We use the one in Boreum Hill and may switch over depending on teh doctors who staff this location.
I highly recommend as we have been to all three of the locations and visited with several of the dotors.

11217 -- why are you pooping in this thread?
Posted by: northsloperenter at August 3, 2009 2:42 PM
Sorry, didn't mean to poop on it. Not a whole lot to say about a kids doctors office opening 2 months from now. Glad it's good, but it's not exactly a high comment thread.
I'm letting people know about other things opening in this immediate area.
You don't want to know about them...skip my posts.

"Not a whole lot to say about a kids doctors office opening 2 months from now. "
Well, as someone apartment hunting in the area, I find it useful to know where a nearby good pediatrician might be. Comments like newsouthsloper's are of interest to me.
Posted by: northsloperenter at August 3, 2009 2:54 PM
why do kids need their own doctors anyway? i never really understood that.
*rob*
Posted by: PitbullNYC at August 3, 2009 2:59 PM
That's cool.
And maybe someone else is interested in where to get a good hot dog.
There's room for it all. Like I said...not a whole lot to comment on about a doctors office which hasn't opened yet and won't for a couple months.
You would choose an apartment by a doctors office which probably hasn't even hired the doctors yet...?
I can point you in the direction of about 25 other pediatricians in Park Slope, if you need some help. ;)

btw, I don't like this group, not a trustworthy group of docs on the whole - nice philosophy, but doesn't work in the practical wld. - not just my experience/opinion, but other families experiences as well. there is one basically across the street from where I live, but I travel much further for my kids care - so that blows the "Well, as someone apartment hunting in the area, I find it useful to know where a nearby good pediatrician might be." theory
Posted by: promenade at August 3, 2009 3:04 PM
Actually, promenade, it doesn't blow the theory at all. Your comment is useful to me as well. Just like it is useful to know that there is a pizza place nearby with mixed reviews.
I don't rent an apartment in a spot because of a restaurant or doctor's office, but it is still of interest to me to know about them.
rob -- I'm shocked this is a topic where you understanding fails you.

"btw, I don't like this group, not a trustworthy group of docs on the whole - nice philosophy..."
Promenade - Is it the Real Birth People or Tribeca Pediatrics you dont like? What is it about their philosophy you think is impracticle? When our child was born, the doctors were very attentive, spent alot of time talking to us and giving advice, keep up to date on shots, visits, etc. Never a long wait and they even do Saturday sick visits. All good stuff in my book.

we love them too -- we go to the boerum hill location and have had a fantastic experience thus far.

Should Art be cool?

There are no "shoulds" in art.
That is to say, there should not be shoulds in art.

We've been going to Tribeca Pediatrics-Boerum Hill for almost two years now. Everyone there from the receptionist to the LPN's to Dr. Tholany could not be more warm and knowledgeable. Because of insurance changes, we had to leave our pediatrician of 9 years. I was very worried about the doc switch but my fears were eased almost immediately. My kids are older and they actually look forward to going to see the doctor.

Insurance changes? Hah, see the OT!

I don't know anything about the "Real Birth People" I'm referring specifically to the doc practice. They have very appealing (somewhat European) ideas on medicine for children, unfortunately, the docs are not all fantastic, available, and in many cases, err to very conservative where they don't prescribe meds when really needed. With the school year upon us (and another round of Swine flu sure to be virulent in the schools) I would really be careful and read up on their practices, especially if your child has asthma.

big fan of tribeca pediatrics. when they opened in williamsburg, it was like a gift. big, groovy office with great play area and you can get an appointment anytime. made life way easier and docs there - newman and gold both good. small child likes going even! fyi - they have had to prescribe antibiotics for a chronic ear infection more than once, and it was no problem. kid outgrew said infections, but was very nice to have them there when needed.
the saturday option in tribeca is good too!

My family is another fan of Tribeca Pediatrics. I loved their policy of having one of their docs always awake and "on call" for overnight phone calls. Made me never hesitate to call at 2am when I had a newborn with fever. Only had to use the service once, but loved knowing it was there. Never had an issue getting RX meds either.
Posted by: Ringo at August 3, 2009 9:44 PM
I can't comment on Tribeca Peds, but I always assumed all pediatricians were on call 24/7. Pediatric Associates in Park Slope have both Saturday and Sunday office hours for sick visits (a major plus in my book) and there's always a dr. on call 24 hours. I've never heard of a pediatrician who didn't take overnight phone calls (or have another doctor covering). It's one of the reasons it is an underpaid and overworked speciality.
Posted by: CGfan at August 3, 2009 10:06 PM
Well, they're on call but they sleep too. So when the baby has a fever at 3am and you're wondering, "Tylenol or Motrin or alternate them or ER?" it was easy to call Tribeca Peds because they have someone sitting at a desk waiting for a call -- they can do it bcs they have a lot of doctors. And they would say, "one dropper or Tylenol and call me back in 45 minutes." It was really a nice thing when you are a new parent.
Our family is no longer with the practice and we miss that service. I'd call my pediatrician now for something serious, but I'd hesitate for the questionably serious and while I love her, she will NOT say "call me back in 45 minutes" at 3AM.

it sounds like a really wonderful practice! I'm expecting my first, and wish there was something like this closer to where I live (Crown Heights). Getting to the Boerum Hill office wouldn't be so bad though...
