StreetLevel: Vanderbilt's Milk Bar Now Open

milk%20bar%2008-2009.JPG
Milk Bar, the new breakfast place on Vanderbilt and Prospect, opened yesterday. The menu has yummy-sounding stuff like "poached eggs on a ham, gruyere cheese and tomato toastie" (half order=$7/full order=$11), scrambled eggs on brioche ($7), pastries, and various sandwiches. Hours of operation run from 7:30 a.m. most days (9 on weekends) through early evening.

It's not open early enough for people with finance jobs.

Seriously... if it's a "Breakfast Place," shouldn't it be open at 6:30 or 7:00 (at the latest)

No problem with the weekend hours.

Though, i am interested to try it out.

Holy crap, you people get up early!

7:30 to me seems like the crack of dawn. My alarm wakes me at 8:50 and it feels like the middle of the night. But I also stay up late, I guess.

I look forward to trying the place out.

if i can get a good poached egg and coffee just a coupla blocks from my house at 9:00 am on a saturday, my life will have changed for the better. love james' brunch, and flatbush farm is okay, but their weekend days/hours suck.

I can only HOPE the interior is decorated like ~this~.

i hhope the servers wear jockstraps on the outside , and tophats.

c.o. references aside, more places need to open earlier. i only have one crappy coffee option in park slope. coffee is meant for waking up dammit.

Goldie:

What about the new Cafe Regular du Nord? Are they not open early?

I go at least twice a day. Amazing little place.

Posted by: 11217 at August 11, 2009 2:44 PM

If I was the owner
I would open at 6am and close about 5pm

Posted by: gemini10 at August 11, 2009 3:10 PM

11217, thats right on my block, and i love it and go often, but between 5:45 and 6:30 (when i leave) only that bagel place on 5th is open. :(

Posted by: goldie at August 11, 2009 3:11 PM

7:30 is way too late for a breakfast spot. I'm up during the week at 5:30 and 7 on the weekends. I'm halfway to work by 7:30!!!

Posted by: A CrownHeightsLady at August 11, 2009 3:20 PM

Seee - it's a Bfast place and should operate as such. Who cares about eating a scrambled egg sandwich at 5pm?

This sooo makes me wanna open up my little hole in the wall diner/bfast spot as I am one that eats Bfast early as well!

Posted by: gemini10 at August 11, 2009 3:25 PM

actually, a little earlier on the wkends would be sweet, too (for those of us with the alarm clocks also known as toddlers), but are you really going to sit down and eat a $10 scambled egg sandwich at 6:00 am on the way to work? i mean, regularly? coffee, sure, but maybe it's not worth the cost for them to be open that early just to sell a few coffees...

Posted by: i disagree at August 11, 2009 3:36 PM

You early birds are freaks. Crack of noon, I say!

Posted by: Nomi at August 11, 2009 3:37 PM

I went along with my wife in the late morning for brunch.

The ambiance is great, they have a nice menu and the staff are friendly.

The food is very good too. But for the price the portions are a little small.

Posted by: EiNY at August 11, 2009 3:49 PM

I'm hungry for a 3:54pm egg.

Posted by: Nomi at August 11, 2009 3:54 PM

Yeah, an egg sandwich for dinner sounds YUM.

Posted by: 11217 at August 11, 2009 3:56 PM

"Yeah, an egg sandwich for dinner sounds YUM."

sorry, but that's a big YUCK.

Posted by: bowl of dicks at August 11, 2009 4:00 PM

Often I eat poached eggs for dinner with ww english muffin
am such a hypocrite!

Posted by: gemini10 at August 11, 2009 4:00 PM

I make breakfast for dinner at least once a week.

No idea why it's a "yuck" because you eat it at 7pm instead of 7am.

Posted by: 11217 at August 11, 2009 4:07 PM

Well, i_disagree, they should also have weekday specials! Earlier hours and a $6 complete breakfast. I'd go regularly.

Posted by: tybur6 at August 11, 2009 4:16 PM

They should be open 24 hours a day and have really good food for a dollar. I'd go four times a day then.

Posted by: Nomi at August 11, 2009 4:27 PM

put a slammin' BLT w/ a fried egg on the menu and i will be there breakfast, lunch, and dinner! seriously, why does no one have that on their menu?? wouldn't you all eat one??

Posted by: tanner at August 12, 2009 9:18 AM

No, Tanner, the fried egg would ruin a completely perfect BLT. I would vote for a BLT with roasted turkey though.

Posted by: tiptoe at August 12, 2009 10:03 AM

you have obviously never tried it, tiptoe! good bread, great bacon, a real tomato, fresh lettuce, and a perfectly over-easy egg... it breaks and drips after the first bite. seriously YUM. and perfect breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Posted by: tanner at August 12, 2009 3:16 PM

Tanner you're absolutely right about the BLT with egg. One of the greatest sandwiches ever. The best I know of is at Hope and Anchor in Red Hook. Fantastic.
