Safety Improvements on Flatbush Ave

carl-park-flat_081809.jpgThe North Flatbush Ave. BID points out that the Department of Transportation has installed safety improvements to the intersection of Park Place, Carlton Avenue, and Flatbush Avenue in Prospect Heights. The BID and Park Heights Neighborhood Development Council pushed for these changes, which include new pavement markings, flexible bollards, a no-standing zone, and the possibility of two new crosswalks, with the goal of slowing vehicles' turning speeds and increasing visibility for pedestrians. Think it'll work? GMAP

Anything's better than what they've got now. That stretch of Flatbush Ave is a pedestrian's nightmare.

Ditto what His Smokiness said.

Cars should just plain NOT be allowed to make a right off Flatbush to Carlton at this intersection. Cars just breeze right through that right angled turn and totally ignore pedestrian traffic.

It's really not all that bad... I walk there all the time. Bunch of wussies.

Where Flatbush needs some help is the stretch from the bottom of Prospect Park to the Belt Parkway!!! Some basic traffic and parking enforcement might make driving a little less of a death race 2000.... and that's in a car. Never mind trying a little bicycle ride down the street. Though, I have to admit, riding my bike south on Flathbush to, say, Avenue J is an extremely invigorating and life-affirming activity!!

It's a definite improvement, especially the new road markings at Carlton which seem to have slowed cars down.

Now, how about slowing down the traffic on Flatbush Avenue? I can never understand why people like sitting outside Burrito Bar. I do everything I can to avoid walking down Flatbush, let alone sitting and eating my dinner there.

it's an improvement, but what seems insane to me is that there isn't a crosswalk crossing park from carlton to the entrance to the B/Q station. hopefully, that's one of the planned new crosswalks. not sure the no standing zone is really going to do anything - depends where it will be. the worst visibility-blockers on that corner are MTA-related trucks who park right in the intersection.
