What's That on the Newswalk Building?

newswalk_080609.jpg
A reader sent in this image of what seems like several cables connected to the Newswalk building in Prospect Heights. The reader, of course, had the same question as we do: what the?? Is this the handiwork of guerrilla tight-rope artists? Daytime ninjas? Confused window washers? Feel free to cash in, readers. GMAP

They are going to pull the building over onto Ratner's property so he can get rid of the damn thing, like he wanted to in the first place, before he made that deal with Boymelgreen. Blank parking lot, errr, blank development site, rather.

Those are the proverbial "strings attached."

They raised the mizzen mast and about to set sail!

They will turn down 4th avenue and loot and pillage the new condo buildings!

They're just running extension cords to AY so they can start work, otherwise no power

It's setup for the next Jackie Chan/Jet Li movie, "Atlantic Yards Enforcer Ninja"

The building is actually filled with hot air and the tie lines are to prevent it from lifting off before they fly off to Kansas

All very entertaining scenarios. The reality is much more mundane. They are doing some local law 11 repair work to the brick facade and also doing some repair work to the rooftop surfaces. If you look at the Dean Street entrance you'll notice that they recently extended the sidewalk bridge to go all the way up to through the courtyard to the front gate. They also temporarily closed the rooftop playground because of the work.

I would agree with bkre:

"LL 11/98 IRA-based Inspections
The combined approach of versatile IRA-trained inspectors equipped with state-of-the-art digital cameras and mobile computers for recording field observations means more surface area can be inspected in less time. Engineers can focus their attention on assessing problem areas uncovered by the field observations. Work scopes for necessary repair work can be more accurately defined by reviewing work needed by area, adding to overall efficiency. Proprietary software allows a "paperless" report to combine pictures of any defects with the inspector’s observation comments. Once logged, a legal, tamperproof, formatted document is generated. This report can be printed, e-mailed or exported as an Excel document, perfect for searching or integrating with many other maintenance and report programs."

And these may be the Bklyn based folks doing it:
