L Mag's Best and Worst Store Openings

Dossier-Dekalb-0809.jpgBrooklyn makes a strong showing in L Magazine's annual list of noteworthy store openings. Writer Laurel Pinson also, appropriately, includes an R.I.P. section for those noble shops lost to these tough economic times. The Brooklyn retailers who made the cut were Smith + Butler at 225 Smith Street in Cobble Hill; The Brooklyn Bridge Flea, at the intersection of Water and New Dock Streets in DUMBO; and Dossier at 244 DeKalb Avenue in Fort Greene. Brooklyn Flea represent!

tried looking at this free rag, but have found it more useful as a coaster, especially with this sort of writing:

The Flea: "You know you've made it when Brooklyn locals debate the various merits of the Fort Greene location versus your (newer) Dumbo outpost."

really? are all of you debating this?

And this: "STELLAR RE-OPENINGS & MOVEMENT Bird is officially the boutique of Brooklyn"

'nuff said.

Bird bums me out. Everything in there is a size negative two and costs a kerbillion dollars.

I agree about Bird. And all of the clothes will make you look exactly the same as all of the other girls walking around in Brooklyn.

I don't like Dossier either. They don't really have much to offer and the woman there was really rude to me the one time I went in.

I don't get it.

disagree about the Bird store - at least in williamsburg. it's beautiful and the stuff for sale was great. also, the art on the wall when i was last there was impressive. i thought that they showcased well thought out items. their aesthetic vision is really good.

Wow, what a shock you like the Bird in Williamsburg, wine lover.

It's overpriced and not in the least bit unique.

But it's mostly rich, vapid white girls who shop there, so I can see why you like it.
