Closing Bell: Jay-Z's 'No Sleep Till Brooklyn'
As you may have heard, Jay-Z filled in for the Beastie Boys at All Points West on Friday when the Brooklyn's most famous white rap artists had to bow out for health reasons. Fans did get a dose of Beasties, however, when Jay-Z delivered his own take of their hit "No Sleep Till Brooklyn," which you can watch above.

They chose the right person to fill the spot!! Jay-Z is a legend and from Bed-STuy

Beastie Boys are overrated.
Posted by: crimsonson at August 3, 2009 5:25 PM
fantastic!

The Beastie Boys are not from Brooklyn. One of them is from Brooklyn, but the group itself is Manhattan all the way. I second crimsonson- overrated.

Jay Z is also overrated.

Not to mention that the concert was in JERSEY!!!

The B-Boys started as a spoof rap band and somehow still sellout stadiums. . .

Dudes - hate to break it to you, the Beasties got their start in Manhattan, but they're straight outta Howard Beach, Queens.

only mca is from the bk. and while the beasties may be graded on a curve(they have moments of brilliance) jay-z is undeniable. along with his own wordplay it takes skills to take another man's rhyme and make them your own. brooklyn we go HARD!!!!!

also, while it is certainly true the beasties are more than just white rap artists. they are rap artists.

I love the Beasties, but I would take Jay-Z anyday.
Posted by: AracelyC at August 3, 2009 7:31 PM
JZ did his thing, but he cant rock it like the Beasties.
Posted by: jack slade at August 3, 2009 7:58 PM
Whether they're from Brooklyn or not: The Beasties always repped Brooklyn back when it wasn't fashionable to do so, "Paul's Boutique" was named after a real store in Brooklyn after all, they also did the same for White Castle, Brass Monkey, and Angel Dust but that's another story.

Never was a Beastie Boys fan...I couldn't listen to them back in the day their voices irritated me, But Jay-Z I have been listening to him since he came out on Can I Get Open with Original Flavor.have been a fan ever since Jay Z is hands down The Best MC in Hip-Hop History, this is my opinion.

Hey Mr. B - how about a "name your favorite Brooklyn tribute song" thread?
Posted by: Rookie at August 3, 2009 9:38 PM
That was fierce.
Or to quote march1 "fucking awesome".
Its not a contest, its Jay-Z shoutin out(and filling in) for a fellow artist thats sick.
Now watch it again and tell me you dont feel anything.

Tributes to the missing Beastie Boys were popular this weekend. Coldplay closed out the festival - I'm not a big fan but it was nice to hear this:

And, from the various shoutouts I heard from bands, it seemed like 90% of the people at All Points West were there from Brooklyn, so it's not entirely inapproapriate for this site. (Except when Tool played - that brought out a lot of people from Jersey. No comment on that one...)
